The rejigged abode has new bones with sizeable flavouring in the crave for dishes. My favourite... Qld spanner crab, cucumber and rhubarb gazpacho. Lunch du jour is worth a return visit just to titillate the taste buds for pub tucker

Everything about the Old Clare in Sydney's Chippendale is mega trendy. The rooms, the staff, the neighbourhood, the food, even the air (whiff of aftershave). But don't let this scare you off. Staff is as friendly, helpful and efficient (e.g. organising a babysitter) as in an old school luxury hotel. Since the hotel is in a former brewery, you get a welcome pint of beer. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Nice rooftop pool. Sadly, the roof bar was closed during our Mar31-Apr3 stay. Not so sure about the lack of privacy for the bathrooms. Hotel also comes at a trendy price... But overall great place. Thoroughly recommend it.

Hello Henning G Thank you for the kind words and the positive feedback. We;re always happy to help. While the Rooftop Pool Bar is closed during the autumn and winter months, hotel guest can order room service to the pool and still enjoy a beverage and a dip or both. Hope we can welcome you back soon and let me know if we can assist in any way or form. There are many different bathroom layouts and we'll be sure to have something that you'll like a lot. Kind regards, Timo Bures General Manager

We stayed in the hotel on two different occasions over a ten day period. On both occasions, the staff were amazing - couldn't do enough to be more helpful. Each trip to the front desk was a pleasure. The rooms are quirky, very airy and the attention to detail very precise. We found the two different rooms we stayed in more than comfortable and very relaxing. Kensington Street Restaurant is not to be missed. A culinary experience not to be missed! With Spice Alley just across the road, the location couldn't have been more perfect. Highly recommended and we would return there without hesitation.

I am a huge fan of conservation-inspired design hotels, and thus, was very keen to stay at The Old Clare Hotel, the latest addition to the Unlisted group by hotelier Loh Lik Peng. However, with two highly rambunctious rug rats in tow (a four and six-year-old), I had huge reservations about staying at a design hotel. All my worries were put to rest. Upon check-in after a 8 hour red-eye, we were greeted by a truly warm and enthusiastic Guest Service Manager, Alice Negrini, who humored both my kids, and prepared a welcome tray of toys, coloring books, and two bags of gummies/candies in the room! My kids could not have enough of Alice, and would ask to see her every day, and she completely entertained them tirelessly each time! We were staying over the Easter wkend, and Alice went

Loved the spacious room with a big comfy bed, high ceiling and industrial feel. Not sure about the glass bathroom and lack of privacy. Fast friendly check in and out. Had pre dinner drinks in the bar on both nights and loved the service and the drinks. Pool bar closed both days we were in house so no opportunity to visit. Great restaurants at your doorstep, we had heard great things about Kensington St Social and we were not disappointed. This was our first visit to The Old Clare nd definitely won't be our last.
