We chose this hotel principally because of the deal being offered via the Air New Zealand website. We were after relatively cheap accommodation close to Central Sydney and this establishment ticketed all the boxes. Reading the reviews gave us mixed anticipations so to balance things: We came to Sydney on an early morning flight and had requested prior to arrival an early access to our room if at all possible. We had booked a superior queen room and on arrival we were offered a slightly smaller room immediately or could wait a few hours for our room. We chose the early access. We read that some of the rooms were not up to standard, but our room was top line. It was immaculately prepared, very clean and appeared to have been relatively recently refurbished. We couldn't have been happier. We also read that the reception staff were indifferent to customers. Nothing could be farther from the truth. We found all reception staff throughout our 4 day 3 night stay to be very helpful, polite and went out of their way to assist. It should be noted that this hotel is not a 5 star establishment in the centre of town but a three star in an older part of the city, but it did not detract from our stay. It is easy walk to Central Station, Darling Harbour and environs and we would definitely stay there again.

The hotel is located a bit 5 minutes from the central station. The area is a bit dodgy late at night but the location is still pretty decent. It is close to most parts of the CBD and there is very easy access to transport.
The hotel tries to give a boutique hotel feel but it does not really work. It feels more like Ibis, Travelodge or something like that. Everything is clean and it works but do not expect anything special. The room came with a queen size bed (comfy). small lcd-TV, fridge, iron, kettle, hair dryer etc. The remote for the TV was broken (it was not fixed or replaced, they replaced the batteries two times even after I insisted it was not the batteries). The view from the room was of a brick wall (if the window would have opened I could easily have touched it). That actuyally brings down the overall impression as the already small room feels even smaller since there is virtually no light coming in from outside.

Stayed 3 nights here and it was the cheapest accom we could find other than hostel. Having said that, it was more impressive than a hostel. Freshly painted, modern furnishings and a mini fridge, tv and air con in our large room. The only fault I could state was the bed was a little uncomfortable. However, given that this was the cheapest accom in Sydney that weekend, then I can't complain! Very good value hotel. Offers a continental breakfast on-site, or a cooked breakfast at a cafe on the corner. $10 cab to darling harbour. Would stay there again for the value.

Sometimes we think cheap is the way to go. Not here. Rather like budget aiines this is one of those hotels that will do everything it can to charge you extra for the things you expected to come as part of your room rate.
The service is basic to poor at very best, check out 10 mins late and you WILL be charged, want to leave a bag at the hotel after check out?? You will be charged.
The rooms are appalling, one of mine was right next to a generater of some kind, it didn't stop all night. Another of my rooms (I stayed for nearly 2 weeks), was up the other end of the corridor and I could still hear it all night long.
My first room had no window and no source of natural light. I was told that my upgraded room didn't include a window! My next room DID include a window, but incredibly 2 feet behind the window was a massive red wall! I couldnt see the bottom nor the top of the wall (or side of the next building), again this offered no natural light or fresh air. As a result of the the rooms have a dour smell.
The carpets were stained, old and very cheap, rather like much in this hotel. Although the sheets were clean.
I also had some articles stolen from my room. The hotel staff didn't want to know about this and appeared to have no process or desire for dealing with complaints.
The Internet didn't work anywhere in the building, I was locked out of the laundry room (which is the staff toliet -grim), despite staff being on site and the lift was older and slower than anything I've seen.
I had pre-booked 2 weeks stay, I had tried to get out of remainder of my stay but was told I would lose all my money.
I guess the management will stay this ins't a luxury hotel, but that doesn't excuse awful service and fundamental short cuts in their offering. I would say it isn't a hotel. I felt like I was in jail.

Response from SWHG_Operations, Manager at Leisure Inn Sydney Central

Thank you for your recent stay at Leisure Inn Sydney Central and your feed back. I would like to apologise for any inconvenience and discomfort that may have been caused to you during your stay. I would also like to assure you that we greatly value all your feedback and comments detailed in your correspondence. Leisure Inn Sydney Central strives to provide comfortable; affordable accommodation for all and as mentioned in your comments like many airlines Leisure Inn Sydney Central have moved towards a user pay systems for extras such as late check out and luggage storage thus offering cheaper rates to those individual who do not need such services. Late checkouts can be pre booked at the point of reservation (if booking over the telephone or via the Leisure Inn Website) at a discounted rate to those available on the day of departure. The generator mentioned in your correspondence is the compressor which controls the airflow and cooling for the centralised air conditioning, this system, does produce a level a noise associated with its operation, I apologise for any inconvenience this noise caused you during your recent stay. The Leisure Inn Sydney Central offers two levels of accommodation. Our Standard Rooms are compact, internal rooms and are located in the centre of the building and offer either small windows looking across at the adjoining building or no window. Our Superior Rooms are larger in size and all offer large triple glazed windows with view of the surrounding district. I would recommend any guest looking at staying longer then two days or any guest who will be spending extended periods of time in the room to consider the Superior Rooms. Please note that the hotel does not offer any rooms with opening window. In regards to the cleanliness of the room I am disappointed to hear that your room was below standard on this occasion as all carpets, curtains and bedding are steamed cleaned on a rotating basis. I have subsequently put in place a review system to ensure those rooms with stains are treated as priority. As the Hotel Manager, I am concerned to hear for the first time, through your correspondence, that your personal items have gone missing during your stay and that the matter was not handled correctly by the Leisure Inn staff or bought to my attention. The hotel offers CCTV footage which covered all hallways and service entries. I would be happy to review this footage and follow the incident up personally. Please contact me directly with the details of your stay and the items missing and I will investigate. I have reviewed the internet connection records for the month of March and our records show that the internet connection was active throughout the whole period. Previously we have experienced that some operating systems have issues automatically connecting to our system and we provide details for manual connection at the reception desk for those having difficulties. Once again I would like to apologise for the discomfort caused to you during your stay and am disappointed that your issues have only been bought to my attention via your feedback. Best regards,

I decided to put more effort into researching appropriate accommodation in Sydney after a less than desirable experience at the commencement of my trip. The Leisure Inn caught my attention due to its close proximity to Central Railway Station and it was a pleasant and easy train ride there from the domestic airport. The Leisure Inn promotes its locality as "just past the Mercure Hotel" and as I emerged from Central Station I was thrilled to see the Mercure just up the road, so I hotfooted towards it. I made it, smiling all the way thinking how clever I was, but there was no signage indicating the Leisure Inn. So I walked...up and down the street, up and down, asking people along the way, who of course didn't know the whereabouts of the hotel or indeed what I was talking about. I used my GPS and also made two phone calls to the Leisure Inn. The Receptionist tried to guide me but her instructions were not clear. At the third call we agreed to meet at a designated spot. She walked me up Regent Street and there it was... such small signage easily missed by a tired traveller had made my last 40mins a nightmare! On reflection I don't think I was quite switched on that afternoon, I put it down to travelling! But all good, I checked in and when I saw my room the frustrations of the day completely melted away. The QS room was lovely - cool, quiet, peaceful, serene, with a really nice 'feel' to it. Large screen TV, a fridge, great bathroom with good size shower and an extremely comfortable bed was all I needed to chill out and completely relax. For those of you wondering about the precise location of the Leisure Inn, it is in Regent Street. Walk along Broadway towards the Mercure Hotel from Central Station and turn left into Regent Street (opposite the University of Technology Sydney, which is on the R/H side of Broadway as you walk towards the Mercure). The Leisure Inn is on the L/H side of Regent Street, a 75m walk from the corner of Broadway. The hotel has a narrow street frontage and is 6-7 levels high, from memory. For the price ($119 for a QS room) it's quite a bargain for inner city accommodation and the location is fantastic, with an easy walk to Chinatown, Paddy's Market, and a plethora of eclectic restaurants. The Leisure Inn is now my preferred accommodation in Sydney, so close to Central Station with easy airport access. I was very impressed and will definitely be staying there again.

I thought I would try this hotel as a change since it is close to the station but had flight trouble and left a message on their answerphone from the airport the night before. I would have stayed there when I finally arrived in Sydney but I saw they charged my credit card for the cancelled booking.
HAVE A LITTLE FLEXIBILITY!! This kind of customer service is terrible and I will never book there again.

The location of this hotel in Sydney is hard to better, it is right next to Central Station just south of Sydney city itself.
The disappointing thing about hotel itself though is the size of the standard room. It should be made clear when booking that the standard room is the size of a prison cell, with little to no natural light. This was not made clear to us, and if it was I would have paid the extra for a room with windows to the outside world.

The hotel stinks, there was a stain on the bed. Its feral. There is no air condition. It is central air conditioning so therefore it's useless. The rain shower is also useless. Prison would be a better stay.

budget would have been ok but this was less than that. poky little space, depressing is all i can think, no window, no doona instead a flat sheet top and bottom with a thin blanket in the middle. unable to temp control the room or even choice low med or high fan. no chair to sit on, just a plain boring depressing room with no choice or anything. no lockable safe box, shower was so calcified the water barely cam out. had to more to another near by recognisable hotel. omg don't do it to yourself. when i walked into nearby hotel it was glaringly obvious to me that there is something seriously wrong with this place. just saying. YUCK wifi was insultingly outragious cost.

A very average room for the price and the night was exceptionally noisy due to drunken guests. No staff after 9pm didn't help. Did not have a good night's sleep as a consequence. Good location next to station and room was clean, but overall expensive and disappointing.
