Cold beer and wine, extra cheap chicken wings or wedges. Cosy small pub all timber panelled. You can sit at the bar or find another small nook. Very friendly staff.
We didn’t stay at the Hotel only came upon the unassuming entrance by chance and were pleasantly surprised.

I did well, as in the '80 I was poor and running around Australia promoting the first two editions of my first novel, Permission to Kill, about the Viet Nam War. When the weather was inclement I would have to duck into low end hotels. Here I am, back in Sydney trying to rekindle the flame of fame pushing my eBook reditions of all of my novels. So into the Wynyard I went. It hasn't changed a bit, it's still a 2.5 star hotel. Small room, with a window that rattled in the wind and leaked in the rain. Shared, bathrooms. Low lighting, with the noise of downtown Sydney ringing like a constant alarm. Ahhhhh, home.

Just dropped in with a mate for a cold beer and got exactly that - nice and cold. The service was friendly from behind the bar. A very small pub, but don't let that stop you. A small downstairs toilet makes for an interesting walk, but it is small and steep. Didn't stay in the accomodation so can't comment on that area. In you're just about in Sydney and looking for a couple of quiet beers - give this place a go..

Tried to postpone my stay due to covid 19, but would refuse to postpone my stay until a later date. Instead they were rude and ripped me off buy keeping my money. Thanks guys!
Don't recommend this hotel as you risk losing your money and their unwillingness to give any kind of help or flexibility during this time of crisis.

Did not stay here but had dinner here on 2 nights out of 4 in Sydney !!!
The food was on a par or better than a very expensive Barangaroo restaurant
The difference was the Wynyard is a small corner pub with about 4 small crowded tables and the cook works in a miniscule work area at the end of the bar doing an amazing job.
The staff were just brilliant, friendly and helpful, the pies were great ( I had the pie on 2 nights)
The fish and chips were top class
It was freezing cold outside and warm and noisy inside ( there was some kind of special football game on the second night or something. The state of oranges ???? )

It's one of those alert places you see in hotel commercials about where not to stay. It shouldn't be called a hotel nor a motel, at best it's a very bad version of a hostal.
Its on top of a loud bar that's open till 1am.
The window in the room doesn't have a screen.
Men and women share the same bathrooms and showers that are in a very bad condition - not usable by any means.
Free Breakfast was some cereal and milk with a loaf of bread in a small shared kitchen.
The room was small which is fine but we could barely fit our one luggage and two Carry ons in there.
There's no elevator and lots of stairs.
We stayed here because there was no other option and it was just for one night. It was a waste of $100 and I would not recommend this place no matter how desperate you are.

Unless you are Bear Grylls on some sort of urban survival adventure, or someone who habitually wears a biological isolation suit, then beware, this is a grim place.
Barely redeeming feature was a beer 'on the house' whilst checking in (at the bar) from a presumably embarrassed manager, sympathetic to what I was about to endure.
Very poorly maintained. Not cleaned. Shared bathroom facilities appalling. Room not serviced. Holes in the wall. Intense traffic noise, not helped by lack of double glazing. Do not remove foorwear, even in bed, for risk of infections from the rank carpeting.

Don't be fooled by their web site like my boyfriend and I were. This place was the WORST place we have ever stayed, and we've stayed at a lot of hostels/budget hotels throughout Europe and Australia. Basically, the rooms are literally above the bar/casino and although we were aware of that upon checking in, what we didn't realize is that at about 7PM they crank up the techno/club music that was so loud it literally vibrated our room until 3AM. Needless to say, we didn't get much sleep and the outside traffic noise was so loud that we were awoken by 7AM (after just 4 hours of sleep), so we checked out that morning because we couldn't bare to stay another night. What's worse, we were booked for four nights and the manager refused to credit us for the remaining 3 nights, and would only give us 2 nights credit so we basically ended up paying $180 for 4 hours of sleep. (By the way, our replacement hotel turned out to be terrific and even CHEAPER than The Wynyard - stay at The George Street Hotel if you're on a budget and still want a clean, quiet and convenient place to stay - we highly recommended it!). Back to the Wynyard, the bathroom was so disgusting, I wouldn't even use it. Basically, it's an open room with two toilets and two shower stalls with flimsy, moldy shower curtains that offer no privacy whatsoever. The supposed "continental breakfast" turned out to be stale cornflakes stored in filthy tupperware containers. At $90 per night, the management of this place should be ashamed.

I just spent 3 god awful days at the Wynyard.
The "continental" breakfast is an exaggeration and a half. Cereal, toast and milk are available in the kitchen area. There is absolutely no service. The room, toilets and bathroom are basic and there is no elevator. All this I could deal with.
What was horrible is that they have magnet keys that open the room doors. All the keys open the rooms. It is terrifying for a single female traveller to be sleeping and having 2 men opening the door to their room. They told me that their key opened every door. I was assured that they somehow had a master key, however, when I tried to unlock another door with my key, it opened the room.
This hotel is unsafe.
Also, it closes on Sunday so if you have a flight later in the day, they will not hold your bag for you.
I recommend paying the extra money to stay at an actual hotel.

This place is fab. My room mate and I arrived after just upping and leaving from another place (because it was so awful) without having another place to stay. We rolled up on their doorstep before they were even open to see if they had rooms spare. Straight away we were given a place to put our massive suitcases and offered drinks despite them being officially closed.
This hotel is set on three floors. We had a twin room on the top floor - it was basic, but very clean and wonderful compared to our previous place. The walls are white, there's a fridge and a TV, limited hanging space and some storage by our beds - again it is small, but I think other people's reviews are harsh...show me a room that doesn't need a lick of paint now and again! Yes there's some noise, but come on, you're in the middle of the city, of course it's going to be noisy!! However the noise we experienced was city noise - traffic and people, and nothing from the pub down below.
The owner Steve is fantastic and went out of his way so many times to help us, helping us sort out our month loing stay, whilst his team including Sam the caretaker (fab and only a phone call away) and Elliot, the very kind bar person that also helped us out.
This place really is wonderful & I would recommend it to everyone. It's in the perfect location - you can see the tube station from the window and several bus stops are nearby - and the team that run it are fab.

The stairs are very steep, I would not recommend if you have any health issues
Hi there. I am not sure about this. The rooms would be non-smoking but I do seem to recall that there was a small smokers balcony(?). I am not a smoker. Of course, there is always out the front and I would think that were there are poker machines, there is always a smoking area. =I am not associated with this hotel=.
