Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was looking forward to staying at the Medusa, and I was not disappointed. The building has a well maintained exterior, and the interior has modern decor with a nod to lovely period features. I checked in outside of reception hours, however the clear instructions received earlier in the morning made check in a breeze. My room on the top floor, facing the street was very spacious with a fireplace, dining space and armchair. The room was spotless with the usual features (microwave, mini fridge, iron and ironing board) sparkling as well. The property was very quiet, and I slept well on the comfortable bed. The Medusa is in a great location, walking distance to Surry Hills and the CBD. There is a supermarket a couple of blocks away and plenty of great coffee and eating options. The Medusa is one of the best places I have stayed at in Sydney, and I’m looking forward to my return.

Love the location, the community, and the Medusa team. The breeze through the shutters on a warm day is instantly relaxing. Rooms are comfy, safe, and peaceful. The mini bar, bath, and Aesop products were big wins. Wifi works well and the hidden kitchenette was very handy. Thai food across the road lovely and the bottle shop at The Darlo has some great finds.

I had the one of the best night sleeps I have every had in a hotel. And I did travel 2-3 months a year for over 20 years for work. I had the room upstairs at the front of the hotel. I thought it could be noisy... but no. I had the balcony doors closed and heard no outdoor noise. We were welcomed with kindness. I came with a friend who had the room next door and they said there room was perfect. Such a chilled quaint quirky hotel. Would defiantly come and stay her again

Roomy room that feels better than home. I practically live in hotels and to find this gem was an absolute pleasure. The rooms are well appointed and ROOMY !! Ours had an area that looked over the common area. Room for a small table that was almost seperate from the bedroom. Great ARSOP amenities and from the moment you walk up to the door the scent of the hotel captivates you. The charm and grace of the building is outstanding. We received a personal message asking when we would be arriving as there is no 24 hour reception as you would expect from a boutique hotel. Jesse was so so friendly on checkin. Located on Darlinghurst road it is close to public transport and some great eating places. Loved our stay here

Was expecting a different hotel experience from the usual and that’s exactly what we got. Our room was very comfortable and the decor was fun! Innkeeper, Shaun, was delightful and so energetically helpful. The extra little touches - beverages, Aesop personal care products, lovely linens, to name a few - made for a wonderful four-night stay in Sydney. Great neighborhood too, easy walk to public transport.

What a gem we arrived early and met Shaun the manager who was really friendly and welcoming We left our bags and went off exploring. We chose one of the smaller rooms which was clean and very comfortable and served our purposes well but the larger rooms are really lovely and if you can afford the extra cost treat yourself. There is a really outdoor seating area where you can sit as well as a comfy lounge. Shaun gave of lots of tips about the local area. There are lots of cafes and restaurants on darlinghurst road and Victoria street. We ate one night at Una’s , a German restaurant, huge portions but great food. It’s about a 40 minute walk to circular quay but I’m sure there are plenty of buses nearby if you want to use we caught the bus to coogee and back from bondi and it was really cheap and caught the bus from just up the road. Would definitely stay here again if I returned to Sydney

It’s been a few years since our last stay here & Medusa does not disappoint! A cosy oasis on Darlinghurst Rd, very comfortably appointed, close to oodles of food & drink options, a quick walk to Kings Cross train station & Oxford St buses, with the warmest of welcomes. Would be hard pressed to find better value - more visits ahead!
