Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Roof top view is great, good atmosphere. Free breakfast is always a bonus. Beautiful old art deco building. They have tv, internet and the guests were fun. Close to loads of awesome places to go out for a good time.

Great place close to transport night life and shopping. Cheap friendly good for tourists on a budget. Harbour views clean rooms and diligent staff contribute to fond memories. All attention has been to provide for those young at heart.

Close to metro station (Kings Cross) and walking distance to central attractions (opera house, night clubs) in a very nice area of town. Old building, with character! It's quiet and convenient for a short visit. Wi fi service is very poor, if available.

Everything about this hostel was disgusting! The bedroom it’s self were dirty and unclean, in the corner was a moulding fridge inside and out, which was so old it just produced hot air blowing into the room. No air conditioning just a pathetic fan. bathrooms were the worst!! Clearly not cleaned as they were disgusting. Hair all in the shower, toilet was filthy. Kitchen had dirty dishes with mould in it, and was horrific. It is also not central at all and a very deceiving name as you are an hour walk to town. Staff were unfriendly and rude. Upon check out they couldn’t find the key to the money box so were unable to give us $20 back! An absolute scam! Refused to leave until they did. Please save your money and don’t book here.

We were quiet surprised to receive such a harsh review and it appears not to be our premises as the fridge in the private rooms are relatively new ,also the ceiling fans bathrooms are cleaned regularly albeit dated ,we have 2 kitchens downstairs and on the rooftop, they are used regularly but not in the state you mentioned we are only a 20 min walk to the CBD , not sure which way you went we are not in the business to scam anyone, not sure why you didn't bring any of your grievances up while you were here, if you were here .

Arrived this morning to a filthy hostel with rubbish everywhere. We were not be greeted by any of the 3 members of staff stood around. My girlfriend tried to speak to a member of staff and was ignored and all the staff disappeared. After about half an hour my girlfriend went looking for someone who we could speak to, all we wanted to do was store our bags. She spoke to some man who went and got another man to some speak to us. He walked into the common area and we all assumed he was someone staying at the hostel. His jaw was swinging and his eyes were rolling to the back of his head (from the drugs) He stumbled over to the desk my girlfriend asked if she could check in to which he said ‘possibly’ he could barely keep his head up and stank of beer. We decided to leave, we didn’t feel safe. If you are a solo female traveller DO NOT stay here it is full of creepy drunk men on drugs.

This is not a true reflection of our Hostel , The 3 people you mentioned were guests not staff and were not on drugs , we have a strict no party policy past midnight and are one of the more quieter Hostels in the area and are safe for all travelers as our current female guests will vouch for, unfortunately you had a bad experience on arrival in the morning and for this we apologize

I stayed overnight recently at Sydney Central Backpackers. Location gets full marks for being so close to kings cross station. Everything you need around you. The staff are lovely and were very helpful with whatever information I needed etc. Breakfast included, I think it is a fabulous deal. I was offered to upgrade for an extra $5 and ended up getting a big room with lots of breeze and light all to myself thanks to the staff for hooking it up! Will stay again.

I recommend this hostel 100%. I have made so many friends there, people are really friendly and the staff members are great too, and really helpful.
The bathrooms are clean, and there’s an amazing rooftop too!
