Detailed Reviews
Enjoyed our two night stay. The location is great with restaurants and shops and Hyde park within a five minute walk. We walked to the Sydney Opera house easily to have lunch. Easy to get to Hop on Hop off bus which was great.
It is an older building and the room was smallish but clean. Good free wifi. If you want a strong shower flow this is not for you . I mentioned it to the front desk and was told due to older building and water restrictions, all rooms are the same . The bathtub was excellent and my 6 ft frame fit easily for a bath.
We did not have time to try the food options they offer.
I enjoyed the lock feature with your key on the elevator which restricted anyone having access to rooms on floors 6 and up .

Pros:
Great location - right between Museum and St James stations - very centrally based with shops, restaurants and cafes all around.
It has a nice regal/heritage feel to it and beautiful scent upon entering the lobby area. Excellent shower and the room was very clean and had extra storage closet.
Wifi worked well, nice selection of teas and the small book collection inroom was very cool.
Staff were kind enough to give us a late check out which helped after having a late night in the office.
Cons:
It wasn't acknowledged that we were there for a special occasion.
The room was very tight and kept hitting our legs on the bed frame.
Didn't like that the A/C is literally facing directly at you on the bed and the rooms were not soundproof so you could hear the housekeeping going through the rooms during the day.
Overall, centrally based property that is good value - but you do get what you pay for and nothing more.

When we arrived and went to our room, renovations were being done to the room below ours so we had to yell at each other to be heard over the jack hammering. We were told to go away for a couple hours and the workers would be gone. When we came back, the fire alarm went off and we couldn't get to our room. Once we were in the room, we discovered it was very small. We kept hitting our shins on the end of the bed trying to navigate between the bed and the TV set/cabinet. My husband hit his head on the bed head during the night thinking the bed was bigger than it was. It was a double, but a small double bed. I almost fell out of the bed just turning over during the night.
The room had all the amenities needed like a tea service, refrigerator, hairdryer etc but not much space to store anything. The bathroom had a 1/2 sink. Yes, it is a boutique hotel but we have stayed in many others which had more space and charm. The food at the hotel was good and the staff friendly. The location is great, right in the heart of the CBD. I do not think it was great value for money though.

Hotel's Favourite
Step back in time and stay at The Castlereagh ... Character and plenty of it ! When you enter the Castlereagh Boutique Hotel .... just a couple of dozen meters from St James Station slap bang in the middle of the centre of Sydney city ... you are stepping back several decades to a time of elegance. The establishment has aged gracefully and has some beautiful (and unexpected) features. Chesterfield sofas abound, art decor features dominate, whilst its past connection to The Masonic Club is still very obvious. The Reagh Public Bar is a great start for an elegant relax over the bars 'featured' cocktail.
Dine formally in the beautiful Grand Dini9ng Room - Cello's Restaurant - arguably Sydney's finest and grandest dining room.
Despite (and likely because of) its age, Castlereagh (it opened in 1927) is very well looked after and maintained throughout.
It's also extremely good value ... don't forget your dinner suit ;-) !

The last time I stayed at the hotel I was less than impressed but cannot say the same of my recent stay in the midst of the Coronavirus Pandemic. My room was large and comfortable with all the usual amenities and the bathroom of generous proportions. Nothing was any trouble for the staff from check-in who assisted me greatly to the friendly restaurant staff who made eating at the hotel memorable and the staff who cleaned my room and took care of my needs on a daily basis. A very special mention must be made of Brett on reception who went above and beyond with his compassion and understanding which was exceptional to say the least in this troubled time. Thank you so much. I will definitely stay again in the future at the Castlereagh Boutique Hotel whenever that might be.

This hotel prides itself on its staff, and it should, they are incredible and make sure that guests are well catered for.
Coming back to this hotel is like coming home wether you stay in an older room or one of the fun and hip newly renovated rooms I do love the new rooms but the older rooms also have new mattress’ so the beds are incredibly comfortable, even in the smaller rooms.
But the best think about this hotel is coming into the amazingly ornate foyer and being greeted by Armindo, Pink, Dennis or Olivia and the other staff who all make you feel like you are the most important guest they have ever had at the hotel. Other places could learn from them

Our stay at the Castlereagh was a very pleasant one, the room was comfortable and very clean. The hotel is in a great spot in the middle of the CBD and still quiet. Transport via the light rail is only 2 streets away and a train only a few minutes walk. The only downfall is that the parking isnt in the hotel but 1 street away. We used the Bar & restaurant and found the staff friendly and food very nice. We would recommend the Castlereagh Boutique hotel to our family and friends without hestitation.

A beautiful boutique hotel located in Castlereagh St, easy walk to Circular Quay, The Rocks, QVB, Westfield, Darling Harbour.
Clean, friendly staff, nothing was too hard.
We stayed in a double room which was sufficient for our needs, aircon, toiletries, tea, coffee, TV, iron and ironing board. Lifts were quick and quiet.
Book direct with the hotel.. this helps them out as well!

We stayed for one night in a Deluxe King Luxe room - it was fabulous. Bed and pillows were so comfortable and there was no noise from other guests or the surrounding area. The staff were attentive and very cognisant of COVID-19 requirements, meaning we felt very safe staying there.
This will be our new accomodation of choice in the city. Can’t recommend it more highly.

Amongst the hustle of the city, this beautiful hotel captures the atmosphere of a bygone era. The staff were so welcoming and yes the rooms are small but the decor, furnishings and the little touches like some books to read, and shortbreads in the evenings give it even more personality. Will definitely stay again.
