Mercure Sydney garners mixed feedback from guests. While the hotel's location is celebrated for its convenience to Central Station and Chinatown, some travelers have raised concerns about the rooms, citing issues with lighting, comfort, and cleanliness. While the service has been praised by several for being friendly, others have experienced inconsistencies and delays. The hotel's value for money has been questioned, with high costs not always matching the quality of experiences and amenities. Despite enjoying the diverse breakfast options, guests suggest the amenities, like plumbing, could see improvements. The atmosphere is seen as a blend, with unique lighting features adding a positive touch, although the dark rooms and dated corridors have not gone unnoticed.

Really enjoyed our stay here, where we booked a deluxe city view room. This tirned out to be a suite with a separate lounge/dining area with a couch and table & chairs, and in the bedroom a couple more comfortable chairs as well as the bed, which was pretty comfortable.
The hotel is about 300m walk from Sydney Central station, with a view from the room westward along Broadway. Built in 1794, this is one of the oldest roads in the NSW colony, only getting the name Broadway when it was widened in 1906, when the nearby Sydney station was opened.
We were very impressed with the staff, found the guest self service launday and liked the reasonably priced parking in the hotel, unlike otheres here where parking is elsewhere.
The one downside was the restaurant breakfast. No idea if it's any good, but glad we didn't prepay. Hotel is fairly big, but breakfast room was way too small. Got on a long queue where they took your room number and directed you to another long queue to get a table. We found an alternative restaurant very close in Broadway, which was fine.

We just returned from a 3 night/4 day stay at the Mercure and we were very happy overall with our stay. From the moment we checked in the staff were very friendly, in particular Iva was lovely. We stayed in a recently refurbished room and it was a very nice surprise. Lovely rain shower heads, comfy beds and blackout blind which was great as we have two young children. The hotel is in a great location, very close to the train station and light rail which makes it easy to access to and from the airport, especially with children. The breakfast buffet was great with lots of options that pleased our 4 year old. Breakfast time was busy but you could see the staff working hard to make sure they seated you as quick as they could and there was always food being refilled. All in all a really pleasant stay and would recommend this hotel to others as well as staying here again in the future.

My partner and I stayed in a balcony queen room on level 9 for 2 nights using the Stay and Play package, the room was clean with a queen size bed, arm chair, desk and wardrobe with iron and ironing board. The big seller was the balcony overlooking Railway Square and George St with pretty city lights at night time. Unfortunately the bed was not to our liking very hard and uncomfortable. Bathroom had a lovely rain shower but the pressure was minimal and housekeeping was limited with rooms only serviced after a 3 day stay which was a bit annoying considering I was paying $310 a night for the room I had to service myself. The main entrance to the hotel is located at the back of the hotel but easily accessible the reception staff and foyer was warm and welcoming with a lovely smell. Breakfast was good with a large variety of items, but I would suggest children be accompanied by an adult when using the coffee machine. I would say this hotel is more a 3* than a 4* venue.

Mercure is very well situated next to Central railway station, Railway Square bus terminal and the light rail is a short walk away. Plenty of restaurants and cafes within walking distance and Haymarket just down the road. Being an Accor member I expected a bit more from this hotel.

We booked two rooms, as we had friends with us. Our friends got a very nice room, like we have usually had in the past. But our room was right on the end on a corner, and smaller than usual. It seemed to only be set for one person, it only had one side table and towels for one person. There was a lot of noise from above due to the renovations that were being carried out on the floor above. We did not find the bed as comfortable as usual and there were only hard pillows in the room, without the usual selection available. The only good thing about it was that we arrived at 9.00am and were able to get into the room straight away. We all had dinner that night in the recently renovated restaurant and enjoyed a lovely meal with excellent service. Breakfast the next morning, however, was very disappointing. There was no cooked tomato, only fresh; no cooked mushrooms; no tomato juice. My husband ordered two fried eggs, the order number stayed on the table for ten minutes, we queried the order with one of the waiters, but gave up after another ten minutes. We were told they no longer keep tomato juice, not even for a Bloody Mary. The Concierge was very nice and most helpful in getting us a station-wagon taxi and helping us with our luggage.

Stayed for 2 nights in November in a family room. The 2 double beds in the standard room is quit small but modern and nice. Comfy beds. Good block out shutters. The roof top indoor pool was great for the kids and awesome view, but stairs for stroller was difficult. Parking on site. Has a small gym and sauna. Ate in the restaurant which was top notch. Not cheap standard city prices but awesome food, very la di da. Close proximity to new shopping mall, bakeries, Mcdonlads, China town etc. Excellent price for city. We even forgot some items in the room and the house keeping posted them back to us for a fee. Quit helpful. Would recommend.

Recently we stayed at the Mercule Hotel in George Street Sydney.
The Hotel is convenient to Central Train Station, the Light Rail, and the busy metropolis that is George Street.

This was a Birthday Celebration Gift ( my 80th) from my daughter.

Immediately, we were made to feel ‘Special’. The Staff, en masse, welcomed us as if ‘Family’.
Hotel Staff are always courteous, but “Family’ slots in well above the norm.

We were Upgraded to a room, newly renovated, one the 11th Floor. What a lovely surprise greeted us upon opening our door.

Well designed, spotlessly clean, and as we explored, very pleasing to the eye - altogether Inviting and’ Swish’

Our surprise, answering a knock at our door, revealing a ‘beaming’ staff Member bring chilled Champagne, along with chilled glasses… WHAT an unbelievable surprise.
Shortly after, I was presented with a bunch of delicate pink Roses. ‘ Family’. - Unique and Beyond Special, was how I felt.

After all the excitement, we were blessed with a superb sleep as the room was so quiet and completely dark.

Ours was a short stay unfortunately, just one night, but we did find time to visit the 14th Floor, where we were impressed with the Indoor Swimming Pool, and, the well equip Gym. All with a commanding view of the City.

Breakfast, was a very busy affair. The Smorgasbord Style was well suited to busy breakfast clients.

The extensive menu, enticingly presented, pleased every palate - again superbly cooked.

We have no hesitation recommending the Mercule Hotel, and will certainly be revisiting our ‘Family’ there in the future.

Thank you for perfecting this special occasion

We had a very disappointing stay at the Mercure Hotel. We selected this hotel as we were arriving on the Indian Pacific train from Perth and it was the nearest to Central Station, the idea being we would have a few days in Sydney, before returning home to the Northern Rivers.

The design of this hotel is strange, the front door, where the cars, taxis and limos go, is actually another block away, down a narrow, dismal back lane called Little Regent Street. The back door, in Railway Square, is not signed and is unwelcoming. Going through the door, we were faced with stairs down to Reception. The lift to that floor was out of order. There was no Concierge service and no one offered to help us with our luggage. When we did get to Reception we were dealt with quickly, however, on getting to our room there was a letter saying that due to Covid safety? our room would be only serviced after a 3 day stay, this meant for nearly $250 a night, we had to service our own room. If I was staying in self-catering, this would be fine, but we believed we were staying in a 4 star city hotel. Next discovery was that the restaurant was closed and there was only one eatery open, a bar, called Eve's Bar. We then booked a table at midday for our evening meal but on arrival at 6pm we found our reservation had "disappeared". The staff did eventually find us another table, but if the hotel is worried about cleaning our room because of Covid, this worry didn't carry to the pub, which was busy (and noisy) and we were very close to the next table.

On day 2 we ran out of tea and coffee and went down to Reception to ask for some, this never arrived! We had regular visits to Reception as throughout our stay, from day one, our keycard would not operate the lift and we had to get new cards every day.

Day 3 we went to Reception where a member of staff tried to assisst, as we had now run out of shampoo, soap, etc. Another reason we had booked this hotel was that it advertised a shuttle service to the airport, you won't be surprised to hear this wasn't available, either, the company they used was no longer available. The receptionist did arrange for a taxi for us, which probably worked out as cheap as a shuttle. He did arrange for more tea and coffee to be delivered to the room (it never came) and offered a full room service, which we declined as we were leaving the next day, we did ask for clean towels, which were delivered but the old, three day wet towels were not taken away.

Consequently, we were glad to leave this hotel. We are Accor Members but I cannot think of anything to recommend it. It certainly cannot possibly deserve four stars.

Arrived early and advised they would call or text when room ready. Returned at 3pm as had heard nothing and found they had sent an email just prior to 3. Given we had paid extra for superior room and were staying 5 nights I think a cleaned room could have been found prior to 3pm. We also were checking in mid week, not a Friday which you would assume to be busier.
Location is convenient as right by bus and train station. Near to restaurants and fast food. 20 minute walk to a supermarket and 40 min walk to Circular Quay so not central location but more on the edge of CBD.
Quiet rooms and lovely view of city which we had paid extra for. This hotel renovated in last two years but there were multiple scuff marks on our walls. Bathroom nice and comfortable beds. There was an issue with small bugs/midges coming through the bathroom vents each day so think they need to fumigate the air conditioning system. There were dead ones on the bathroom ceiling.
An empty dirty wine glass sat outside our neighbour’s room for 3 days which was a bad look. Pool is indoors on the roof. Very small and not very warm. No spa but a sauna and a gym.
Room rate most I have paid anywhere in the world including 5 star hotels but maybe everywhere in Sydney is expensive at the moment. Good having a guest laundry in the basement though $10 a load for powder, washer, dryer.

Have stayed here many times and again came through even in these uncertain times.
Brilliant location with buses at thefront door or a short walk via the subway underpass to Central station and Chalmers street for the trams to Randwick or the Quay
Thr staff are masked up and doing the right thing as we were.
The Platform 818 meal with truffle was brilliant
You can expect breakfast in a box in your room but there is no way around the magnificent buffet generally provided given these times.
We had a beautiful room provided and we will be back.

Modern rooms of reasonable size, great location right near public transport esp trains. Good value. 5 minute walk to Spice Alley and its street vendor alley; bit longer to Chinatown; and other food choices.
Good car parking underneath - daily fee isn't cheap but good value for Sydney.
Breakfast was crowded - be prepared to wait for a table or go outside the busy times (advised in rooms).
Pool and gym are on the top floor with city views.

As far as I know most will do an after hours drop off but you will have to pay for an extra day and they should have a drop off box for the key, best thing to do is ring car companies and check with them.
