While the InterContinental Sydney garners appreciation for its sophisticated atmosphere and impeccably clean rooms, some guests have called out the hotel for not providing good value, pointing to the high costs relative to the quality and comfort received. The prime location near Circular Quay is a highlight, with travelers consistently acknowledging the convenience it offers.
Service at the hotel generally receives acclaim for its professionalism, although there have been some noted inconsistencies. Guests enjoy the amenities but have raised concerns about certain aspects like breakfast and rooftop bar access.

Detailed Reviews
Our family of 4 stayed here for NYE. There is a 3 night minimum required for booking the Club Lounge access during this period. The lounge is a perfect location for fireworks viewing. They allow kids access to the lounge for the 9:00 pm family fireworks. Meats, cheeses, breads and complementary wine are served before the 9:00 fireworks. There is also live music. After the family fireworks, a very nice dessert buffet is set up with a chocolate fountain. The kids, under either age 12 or 13, are allowed to stay and partake of the buffet and must leave the lounge around 10:30 pm. At this time, any alcohol that is ordered must be paid for by the guests. The balcony of the lounge is a perfect location for viewing the fireworks. We also booked a Harbor Bay Bridge room, so that our kids could watch the midnight fireworks, while we watched from the lounge balcony. Before our stay, the concierge was so very helpful and accessible via email and arranged all of dinner reservations. A special thank you to Peter for his help before and during our stay. Shaamili, Reservations Supervisor, was also extremely helpful via email with various changes we had before the stay. In the Club Lounge, the young Thai gentleman at the concierge desk was just wonderful (Yijt maybe...so sorry I don't have the correct spelling). He was so kind, helpful and always had a smile on his face. If booking for NYE, I suggest calling as soon as the month of May, as we did.

We stayed here for New Year Eve, it’s perfect location to see the fireworks from your room, good for the family with young kids, but it’s really expensive and you have to book 3 nights if you want to book the night for new year eve.
Some staff is friendly but some are not, depends on your luck, there’s a lady in the reception is really nice, but there’s a gentleman (last name is Lim) is quite arrogant.
I have to point out that consider most guests are to watch the fireworks, they should at least clean the windows before that, but they didn’t bother, it’s disappointed.

This hotel was large and extremely beautiful with a stunning lobby bar and spacious breakfast area. The location was perfect and it was an easy walk to the Circular Quay area where the Bridge, Opera House and a number of shops and restaurants are located. We were on the 11th floor and faced the main street. It was very quiet and we did not hear any road noise. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. I was surprised that the room only had a small closet and no storage area. Since we were only there for a couple nights, we just lived out of our suitcases and did not unpack. The refrigerator in the room was stocked and you could not even squeeze in a bottle of water to get cool. Breakfast was included with our tour group and the buffet was very good with lots of choices. The front desk and concierge were very personable and friendly and they even let us stay a couple hours passed our check-out time since it was raining so hard and we could not board our cruise ship until noon.

We traveled thru Sydney twice on our visit to Australia. First we stayed at the Shangri-La and hated it - poor service and room. In contrast we loved the Intercontinental. For the same price we had a club level room with a spectacular view over the botanical garden. The club area was excellent. The fitness club was very nice as well. And I particularly want to commend the service. We needed to depart early because of the growing travel issues related to the Coronavirus. They not only refunded the pre-paid unused nights (non refundable price), they let us stay in the room until 7pm for a small fee. Next time I’m in Sydney I’m definitely staying there again.

We returned to the Intercontinental Sydney after 20 years. We were first there for our honeymoon and then thought we would take the children there. It did not disappoint. Fresh clean rooms, comfortable beds, attentive staff and excellent turn-down service.
Check in was easy with the young man allowing us to stay an hour longer after check out. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were very friendly. May I be cheeky in suggesting an Indian item to the Asian section, even though the chicken noodles, fried rice and pork buns were delicious. At the pool level, there was an oversight of unavailability of towels but we noticed that the staff member in charge soon attended to the issue. Great gym, modern equipment and clean change rooms were much appreciated. The noisy building work nearby was one of the inevitable inconveniences in a growing city but the convenient location to Circular Quay, Harbour bridge and the Gateway food court made it all worth it. Thank you to the concierge for providing us with information about the area. A memorable stay for our family. Well done to the Intercontinental team!

Had a 4 night stay recently to catch up with friends in Sydney. Wanted to spoil ourselves a little so prepared to pay for the 5 star rating and we weren't disappointed. We had an Eastern Harbour view room that provided an extensive view over the harbour out to the heads and out over the botanical gardens. Service was excellent in all areas and particularly concierge who were fantastic in helping out with a lost camera in a taxi. Room was very comfortable and although shower over the bath is a bit outdated for a hotel of this rating, it wasn't difficult to access. The non steaming bathroom mirror was awesome. Breakfast was more than adequate with very attentive staff. Dining at Meat & Wine Co was a bonus and we were disappointed we only had the one opportunity to dine there the one night. Great food and wine list and excellent table service. Hotel location is terrific and only a short walk to the Quay, Opera House, Gardens, the Rocks and Bridge. A tram is available to travel back up the CBD. Couldn't have been happier with our choice of Hotel for this stay.

My wife and I visited albeit for only 1 night in January 2021, this tired hotel struggling in the covid world. I am a platinum ambassador member and not even that could convince me going back ever again. We stayed in the so called 'signature' 70sqm Harbour suite which was on the 19th floor with obstructed views of the harbour. The obstructed views are about to become even more obstructed by a circular quay high rise development that is under construction right in front of the hotel.
The suite itself is quiet nice albeit showing its age particularly in the bathroom. Nice touches such as a wireless phone charger that is apart
of the clock radio , is clearly an attempt to modernise things. The bottle of sparkling provided was also well received given that I had advised the hotel we were on our honeymoon.
My ambassador status gave me a nice late checkout of 4pm, 2 drink vouchers, 2 free bottles of water waiting for us in the room and 25AUD credit in food and drink. However the guaranteed room upgrade with this visit was worththeless but I knew that when booking given I was already booking the top category room. I punted perhaps getting an upgrade to the opulent governor, or Opera suite which I knew were available, and which I had been successful before. But even after requesting the upgrade, no such luck this time.
The A la carte breakfast in Cafe Opera was an additional $26 and although nothing like the well regarded buffet that was available pre covid, was still relatively good value and of good quality.
Finally there were renovations happening in the rooms during our stay, perhaps a good omen for future travel. We could hear the work but they didn't bother us. I I do not recall being told of this when booking which should be a usual courtesy.
All in all this once highly regarded hotel appears to really be struggling to adjust in these tough covid times. Rooms are old but perhaps future renovations will change that. Those looking for ultimate luxury might want to consider other options. Crown Towers perhaps??

After a previous fantastic stay at an intercontinental with my platinum ambassador status, I decided to splash out on the most expensive one bed room at the end IC Sydney which would mean my guaranteed upgrade would push us into a suite. The extra space was important to give our toddler space to play an a separate area for her to sleep. Upon check in we were fobbed off with an upgrade to a room type (still one bed room but with different view) that they don’t sell anywhere on IHG.com. Had to spend first evening on the phone to IHG and was eventually given a suite on our 3rd night.
The room is very dated, after moving on in our trip around Australia we checked into a hotel which was a quarter of the price and the bathroom was far larger, more modern, and with better facilities, IHG Sydney desperately needs an upgrade.
Real lack of attention to detail which you don’t expect when paying over $500 per night, i.e. coffee capsules used were replaced with decaf so we only had decaf by the end of the week, milk ordered from “milk menu” was never the whole milk we asked for and was certainly not sufficient for 4 drinks (2 in the evening, and 2 in the morning) as requested. It was nice to have a milk frother though. Sweeteners weren’t replaced either. A call to reception could have fixed all this but not something I should have to do in such an expensive room.
We didn’t get to make the most of all the club benefits as they weren’t explained to us at check in due to the issues with room type previously mentioned.
The staff were generally friendly, but all in all this hotel really wasn’t worth the cost, especially as I didn’t get my free ambassador weekend night (as I booked too many nights!!) Now debating whether or not to renew my ambassador status and staying at IC’s in the future, not worth it when you have to jump through hoops and fight for “guaranteed” benefits

We booked this hotel, as it was very close to the Cruise Ship Terminal, and because we thought we could enjoy the rooftop bar overlooking the harbour. The hotel was already quite pricey compared to others in a similar location, so you can imagine our shock when told that to enjoy the rooftop bar it would cost us an $100 pp. This included canopies and a drink,I think. We love a drink and a view, so we fully expected to spend some money while enjoying the view, but a set charge (?) - and one that was not mentioned in their advertising! It spoilt our stay. Our fellow cruise ship passengers all raved about their harbour hotels, so perhaps choose one that really includes a view, afterall, it should be included in the advertised price!

There isn't a better situated hotel in Sydney's CBD. It's just steps from Circular Quay, the Sydney Opera House and ferry/tour boat ticketing. The rooms were well appointed. We moved to this facility after another IHG property couldn't handle the rain and moved our room multiple times.
We were instantly greeted and our baggage taken by the bell captain. They actually almost beat us to our room! Our package included breakfast and jeepers, WHAT A BREAKFAST! There's a ton of value in the option. You could fill up and head out for the day, only really needing a light dinner. From smoked salmon and charcuterie to omelets and bacon to fried rice and miso, they've got options for you.
The Botanical Gardens, the Sydney Eye, the Harbour Bridge and a ton of extremely upscale shopping and museums are all within easy walking distance.
The concierge was fantastic and helped us obtain tickets for a highly sought after sold out show at the Opera House.
We had a rather long stay at 10 days but we really tried to get the most out if it. You must try High Tea at the Cortile in the lobby. Donna in the Cortile was a hoot and a font of information!
They don't have ice machines but you can call room service and they'll bring you an ice bucket.
The only con was housekeeping serviced our room very late in the day, usually after we returned from doing something and wanted to relax @ 4:30PM. They also don't really have any perks for IHG Elite members. Also, there's significant high rise construction next to the hotel and they start really early and loudly but that's part of life in a major metro area
I truly cannot recommend this establishment enough. Everything is at your fingertips here!

Though they don't have washing machines for public use, the hotel provides a clothes cleaning and ironing service. But it comes at a high cost.
Bring an adapter for the Australian outlet.
No we don't we buy a club room. It's not worth the extra price for a club room any more.
I would contact the hotel directly. They know what's available and which rooms face the bridge.
