After numerous attempts of trying to get away for a holiday with my partner, we succumbed to the fact interstate travel was out of the picture. So we went with a staycation in the city. After a fair bit of research and price, we came across a deal (directly with the hotel) with Hyatt regency darling harbour. After booking a suite room with bath and “harbour view” for $400 a night (yes you read that correctly, $400 a night) staying two nights over the weekend. We checked in, concierge was friendly and advised that “breakfast was not included but we have a deal for the buffet restaurant at $30 a head! Just take this sheet of paper with a QR code when you get to your room and scan and book” so we took that opportunity whilst in the lift Upto the 6th floor and booked breakfast. Scanned into our room to find ourselves in a very small uptight room with no bath, a below par size bathroom and what was explained as “harbour view” a balcony that would be not even 1 meter width with a view of the aquarium/wildlife roof with an extensive view of their air conditioning systems. How romantic right? So we thought before walking down to reception and being a disgruntled rude customer, we would call and give them a chance to resolve this issue from the room. After explaining what we booked and what we have paid ($800) for a tiny room and a view of some air conditioners. We were simply greeted by “that’s what you have booked and if you want an upgrade to a suite, it will be an extra $200 a night. HORRENDOUS customer service! So I said can I please have a chat with your manager as I want this escalated as I have paid a fair bit of money in a global pandemic for something I haven’t received for the value. The response I got was “yes I will escalate this and a manager will get back to you”, not once did I receive a call from any management or solution to my issue. So we are now 30mins into our stay and I thought I would look across the harbour and see what the rates of the Sofitel darling harbour would be, surely thinking it would be an extreme price for what we have paid with the Hyatt regency. To my dismay it was $100 more for what I have paid for two nights with a corner room, bath with a view with a 5 star hotel rating. After discussions with my partner and the sheer lack of dialogue with the hotel staff at the Hyatt regency we thought we would just stay and it will be a valuable lesson! Don’t book with Hyatt regency ever again. I would recommend look across the harbour and stay at other options because this place isn’t it! Side note: breakfast was included and they still charged us for breakfast so they robbed another $30 a day out of us! THEY ARE CRIMINALS! DO NOT STAY HERE!

Location is great, balcony room was a great size. Bathrooms are quite small. Overall room was a little dirty and felt tired already. Checkin was painfully slow for no apparent reason. Concierge was beyond rude.

It was my husband and my third attempt in booking the Hyatt Regency Sydney in the last few months because of the Melbourne and Sydney lockdowns and we were not disappointed. We appreciated all the COVID safety in place like staff actually checking QR check -ins and Vaccinations status. All staff were friendly and helpful especially in the dining area for breakfast. As we stayed 8 nights we started with table service and Sonam went out of his way to make us feel at home as well as Julie and Natasha. Then the breakfast changed back to buffet breakfast which was fantastic and it was good that everyone had to wear their mask near all the food. We hope the hotel will keep up with these high standards and yes we will be back next year.
