I always stay in this hotel even though my company does not allow it. The reception ladies think they are models rather than receptionists—they do not smile and are not friendly. I asked for a 12:30 pm check out. The receptionist said that only noon checked out without looking at my eyes. So rude. I said I needed to be at 12:30 pm due to a business meeting. She pretended to look at the computer, and I waited like an idiot. Only a minute later, she told me it was fine without looking into my eyes. If the lady receptionists think they are models, they should not work in the hotel. Very disappointed. This situation is getting worse.

Kicked out on Thu Mar 30th for no reason: first myself, then a colleague, then another colleague. Just five men (us and client) between the ages of 35-50 having a civilized after-dinner drink on ground level. Needless to say, we won’t be giving them any more business.

From the minute we arrived our stay was fabulous. Check in was delightful, the room was gorgeous. We felt very special any where we went within the property. ie the bar, the restaurant, reception. Rooms were very sexy and the bed and pillows were perfect. Shower was fab and loved the bathtub. The location was unreal with the light rail (bridge Street stop) just out the front so we could go everywhere from Circular Quay to Moore park with very little effort and no sore feet! Will stay there again without doubt.

I would give this hotel zero stars if I could. This hotel has absolutely terrible noise proofing. I have stayed in quieter hotels in the middle of Seminyak in Bali!! My partner and I were both kept wide awake the entire night by people in the street below coming out of pubs as well as every car and truck passing by as well as the noise coming in from the rooms next door and people in the hallway. We played white noise through an iPad which still couldn’t drown it out. I finally fell asleep at 6am, thinking I might be able to sleep for a few hours before work, before we were woken up by cleaners vacuuming next door at 7am. It echoed right through our room it was so loud. We were staying here for business to get a good nights sleep to make it easier to be in the city the next day. Well that didn’t work out because I was so sleep deprived that I took the next day off work. Not only the noise issue, the bed was not what I would expect from a “5 star hotel”. The mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable and the sheets and pillow were rough and scratchy they made my skin itch. In case it couldn’t get any worse, the room was hot and stuffy, despite it being cold outside. We had the aircon set on cold to 16 degrees and fan on high, but could hardly feel a draft in the room. We slept with no covers on and still were sweating. The bathroom was gross, there was visible mould growing between the tiles and the bath was so small even for just 1 adult. I can’t believe we paid $400 just to be sleep deprived in a dirty room. I’ve never had such a terrible nights sleep in a hotel and I’m absolutely shocked it can be classed at 5 star. I would never ever recommend this hotel to anyone it was awful and overpriced.

WOW!!! My coworkers and I spent a week and a half in Perth for work, then a few days in Sydney before heading back to the states. We were between the Tank Stream and this hotel (the Tank Stream being a bit less expensive) and decided F it. The Establishment looked fancy and we deserved it. AND IT IS FANCY. First off, the entrance is in some sort of shady alley, which isn't shady at all, but that added to the allure. Also, it smells phenomenal. The rooms are absolutely GORGEOUS and HUGE - the bathrooms are gorgeous, we couldn't believe it. Now, it is a bit loud - my shower overlooked the Establishment Bar which was a few floors below - so wear ear plugs when you are sleeping (and they provide them). The bed is so comfortable, the noise doesn't really matter. Joe, the concierge, took such great care of us. He made us a reservation at Mr Wong which is right next door. The restaurant was booked solid so we were happy to get to try it and it did not disappoint. Also, there is a speakeasy BELOW the hotel so that is really fun as well. The hotel is within walking distance of the opera house, the bridge, the Rock, the Sydney Eye, location location location - it is top notch. 100% will stay here again, probably one of my favorite hotels ever.

Location drew me to Establishment, situated near some of my favourite restaurants in Sydney and close to the venue where I was doing business. Establishment delivers for location. I also chose Establishment for a little bit of luxury to break a heavy work schedule and it did not live up to expectation. It seems to be a great party crash hotel for the bucks/hens night with few services that really speak to the time poor luxury business traveller. It’s beautifully styled with a comfortable bed, but that is about the limit. It’s the services and the quality of the room features that let it down. No 24 hour room service and a menu that is not reflective of the quality of the food precinct it’s situated in. (I went out to get an excellent take away breakfast that I brought back to my room rather than order anything from the scant breakfast menu that looked like a take away menu). I left my computer power charger at home, but concierge could not help me with one to borrow or ideas on where I could buy a replacement. The bath is very narrow and not much hot water - I boiled the kettle to get it a bit warmer. Hunter products in the bathroom but there was no hair conditioner and few of the little luxuries that you would expect in such a stylish bathroom such as extra towels, make up mirrors/lighting, an extra soap for the bath. The room fittings are pretty tired and scuffed up. It’s certainly ready for a bit of a renovation/ refresh. The carpet looks like it’s seem some amazing parties. The room, particularly the bathroom, smelled strongly of cigarette smoke despite it being a non smoking hotel. The bathroom shower curtain was really dirty and needs to be replaced. Lots of marks on the walls and scuff marks on furniture - looks tired and a bit worn out. There is no dedicated space to work for business travellers, other than a long table near the window but I had to sit on the bed. Inside the lift the small seating looks like it had seen some parties as well and not clean enough to sit on. No hand sanitiser anywhere. This was the most expensive room rate for the CBD area I wanted to be in, and the result was disappointing. As a lover of boutique hotels, I was looking forward to staying here, but based on this experience I won’t return and can’t recommend this one.

Our room was amazing , every detail was throughly considered. Great job Merivale. Bedroom on elevated floor , larger lounge area. Wardrobe and separate bathroom, Bathroom great , double vanity and deep bath. Great atmosphere, has a wonderful energy. Staff lovely and very helpful. Walking distance to city center and all great restaurants nearby. Mr Wongs is next door and Kid Kyoto is across the lane. We will be back.

We stayed at The Establishment Hotel for 2 nights in August and overall it was a good experience. The check in was seamless and the staff professional and friendly but there were a couple of areas where they could improve so this is why I didn't give it an excellent rating. The first room I was given I couldn't get the TV going so I rang the front desk who sent someone up to take a look and they couldn't get it going either so they organised us another room. Once in the other room I could not get the Foxtel stations but I gave up at that stage. I would have thought that a hotel of this stature would have this operating correctly. The rooms were large, well appointed and clean but the only negative was that the lighting was so poor in the bathroom that it was impossible for my wife to do her makeup, obviously the lighting was designed by a man? Not sure what the breakfast was like pre Covid but it is room service style and very basic with only 2 option option of a sweet or savoury and on the second morning we didn't even get a pastry. It is located in a good part of the Sydney CBD which is close to some great restaurants and bars which the hotel organised for us on short notice a table which was appreciated as these were full due to the Covid restrictions. Overall it was a pleasant experience but if they could fix those couple of areas I mentioned it would be an excellent boutique hotel if you wanted a change from the big 5 star hotels.

I was excited to visit Establishment Hotel after they reopened this August as they appear to have well-styled rooms with a boutique hotel charm. I was also interested to see how Marivale approached the accommodation side of things as they have an excellent collection of restaurants throughout Sydney including some of my absolute favourites. I understand that some of the issues I experienced may be due to difficulties with re-opening after the pandemic-forced closure, but for the majority of my complaints, there is no reasonable excuse. I was staying with my pregnant wife, and when we were choosing a place to stay we compared hotels based on their advertised inclusions from the hotel direct website. Our three most important features were a deep soaking tub, 24-hour room service, and a reasonable room size. According to Marivale’s posted information, the Establishment Room would be a suitable choice for us to relax for the night. We booked direct with the hotel, 3 days in advance. We were not told that there was not going to be 24-hour room service until we checked-in, well after the cancellation window had passed. When we arrived at the hotel at 3pm, we were told there would be no room service available until dinner, and then after dinner service, none for the remainder of the stay (breakfast was included, but reduced to either a ham and cheese croissant or a Danish with muesli and yogurt.) This lack of room service was not due to unforeseen circumstances but was rather planned by the hotel and they made no effort to communicate this to their guests at time of booking. Had I known, I would not have chosen to stay, as the comfort and convenience of 24-hour room service was one of our deciding factors in our staycation. We stayed in the first week of August, 2020, right as Australia’s second wave of Coronavirus was taking full swing. Establishment Hotel advertises itself as COVIDSAFE but this is far from the truth. There was no hand sanitizer available at common high-touch surfaces like lift buttons or the main entry. Worse than that, we were served our breakfast uncovered, as in no cloche or no plastic film, by a gentleman with no facemask who was breathing directly on our food. I am not sure if the hotel is in the middle of updating the wording on their website, or if they are in the process of training their reservation staff, but the wording on the hotels website during the booking process was “Full payment will be done at the hotel” and on the next page “No online payment. Your credit card details are only used to guarantee your booking. Our reservation system is secure.” They charged me the full amount at the time of booking, 3 days before my actual stay. I do not mind pre-paying for a hotel reservation, but lying about when you take payment is a form of fraud. In addition to these 3 serious complaints above, there are numerous little complaints that make the hotel seem noticeably inferior to other 4 and 5 star hotels around Sydney: No one introduced themselves over the phone during our stay, the minibar fridge latch was faulty and the door kept swinging open, they only provided 1 key for 2 guests, and the room requires a key at the door for the power to work, the bathtub is too narrow to sit in comfortably, the shower only has an overhead rainfall showerhead, there was stains on the shower curtain and someone else’s hair, the shower drains to the bathroom drain rather than the shower drain so all towels on the floor get soaked every time someone has a shower, the TV requires 2 remotes for operation, etc.
