Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This hotel is perfect if your main intention is to see the city! We had an amazing view of the Harbor from our room, walking distance to the Opera House and botanical gardens and wharfs, 2 blocks from a stop for a Big Bus hop on hop off Bus tour, and above all the staff was incredibly nice and helpful. The hotel is small, but had a fantastic bathroom with great shower pressure, excellent storage, and safety features. Would happily stay here again!

Mid-century fit out but clean and beds comfortable. The bathroom was clean and we had a view of the harbour. Great location At Elizabeth Bay / Potts Point. Some trendy cafes, bars and restaurants. With Kings Cross just around the corner.

Great location a 5 minute walk to Hayes Theatre and fantastic restaurants but a truly awful hotel. We weren’t expecting much - we could see on their website that the hotel is older and the decor didn’t look great - but we were met with sh!t on the toilet seat, curtains hanging from their tracks, a spider on one of the curtains, pillow cases that smelled used and walls so thin we could hear the person in the next room throwing up. The staff were friendly though but next time we’ll definitely stay somewhere else.

Sydney DeVere Hotel Review March 28 – March 30 I stayed at the Sydney DeVere Hotel in a first-floor room which is actually one story above ground level. Note carefully the pros and cons below! PROS • Helpful staff • Great restaurants and coffee shops nearby • Great hot water and water pressure • Good counter space in the bathroom • Very good desk light CONS • High pitched noise pierced the room at night • No WIFI on the first and second floors • “Lobby” had older sofas with large red duct taped Xs on the cushions • No ramps. Must step luggage down to the front desk; then, haul it up steps to the elevator or up 3 flights of narrow steps to the first floor. • Water pipes sing when water is turned on • No bathroom tissues. No hand towels. • Older hotel with maintenance needed. Donald Beaulieu Booking # 1448466722 AAA CF# 9151674776173

The hotel is in a good location and the reception staff are polite and efficient under challenging circumstances. The carpets in the hotel foyer are filthy as are the ones in the hotel corridors. There is a stale smell throughout. Our room and bathroom were clean however there is no daily room cleaning service and the QR code in the room explains that the rooms are cleaned only once every week. This is not something you would expect from any hotel. The furniture and fittings are extremely tired and are a much lower standard than you would expect. We were booked to stay three times and when we complained we were given an upgrade to a slightly better room for our second stay, there was, however, a strange yellow stain on the duvet. We cancelled our third booking and we will not stay there again.

It is with regret that I feel the need to give such a poor review about this hotel. Let me start with the positives. It is in a good location and some of the staff are nice. The entrance- shabby, dirty and no access for disabled. Access to the floors- lift in disrepair and veey small and dirty Getting to your allocated room- stairs, up and down, no flow with the corridors, a maze. Rooms- tired, lots of disrepair, lights that don't work, no privatcy blinds in the bathroom, tea and coffee tasted stale a0nd off, kettle black inside. Safety- fire doors are not properly set for a safe evacuation. Towels chocked under door to hold it open. Increased risk of not getting out of the building safely. Lifts in disrepair adding to safety risk. Disappointing stay. We were moved from our original room given so many things were wrong. Second room better but still old and tired. Cleaner- left all bags of dirty washing in the corridors. Hmmm. Won't be returning there. People say you pay for what you get. $263.00 is average for a 3-4 star hotel and we have stayed in these and Safety and cleanliness has NOT been compromised. Irene

We stayed here in early January and chose it based on its value for money and proximity to the Sydney Cricket Ground (as we went to the cricket). It was a nice walk from our hotel to the SCG, and the hotel itself was lovely - friendly staff, clean room and yummy breakfast on offer. I'd highly recommend for those on a budget as this hotel has everything you need. We didn't check out the busy Greek restaurant adjacent, that's for another trip!

We stayed in a twin room for $89 overnight. The location is great, a short walk to Kings Cross train station. An excellent eatery ‘The Gypsy Expresso’ is across the street. Front counter staff were friendly and obliging. The reception area has dated, but comfy furniture. The lift to the 4th floor worked well. Couldn’t fault our room for the price. Everything worked well. Aircon, TV, shower etc.. comfortable bed. Nice and quiet. Thanks De Vere!.. we will be back.

Room is a standard size. Bed comfortable. Had city views from my room which was nice. Great location, just a 5min walk from Kings Cross station and plenty of food places and entertainment nearby. Short walk to Woolloomooloo and other harbourside locations. The only thing I didn't like was the creaky floor. It was a bit weird hearing people walking down the hallway and people in nearby rooms. I also had to tip toe late at night to avoid waking people up. Apparently there is a breakfast buffet and when I was there they advertised it at a discounted rate so maybe wait until checkin before booking it. As I had my own food I didn't try it. Probably would stay again.
