OK. Was a little concerned booking this hotel partially based on some reviews on here. Having now completed my stay i'm so glad I chose the Kirketon. I only needed one nights accommodation on a Saturday night in Sydney and spent quite a lot of time searching for a reasonably priced hotel. In Sydney reasonably priced hotels are very few and far between. The Kirketon was very reasonably priced at around £90 per night.

Absolutely, It's no Westin or Hilton. But it does not come with such a price tag either. And for the price I paid I felt I got 5* for value for money. I don't profess to know how much others that have left critical reviews paid. Perhaps they did pay Hilton or Westin prices and then yes, perhaps I would have been a little disappointed.

The hotel is exceptionally easy to reach by public transport. An easy 5-10 minute walk from Kings Cross station. YES there is no lift. If you are not ably bodied this could pose an issue. If you are - no need to moan about it. It's a few flights of stairs and good exercise after a flight anyway.

I was greeted and checked out by friendly staff that explained all the amenities. My room was very clean, very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom. The view - a wall from a nearby building. The silver lining of the lack of view was that even though it was a Saturday night there was no noise at all.

Was also pleased that the Kirketon offers 24hr access to an external hotel about 200m away.

I think you very much get what you pay for in life. If you want a five star hotel, pay the five star prices and knock yourself out. If you want central, comfortable, reasonably priced accommodation consider the Kirketon. I willd deinitely return.

I cancelled another booking I had for this time, then suddenly needed accommodation again, couldn’t get the same deal I had my first hotel so searched for something else. This then was a last minute booking, to replace the cancelled one, I wasn’t sure how good it would be but I was pleasantly surprised at how lovely it is.

The rooms are really cute and I liked the decor of the rooms and the hotel in general. I had a standard room, it was very small and the bed (a double) was small too, but it wasn’t a problem because I’m short and smallness of room no problem because I was out a lot. There was air conditioning, good water pressure in the shower, iron, ironing board, hair dryer, kettle, tea, coffee, sugar and UHT Milk, biscuits. Wine glasses, tea cups and spoons. Bed was comfy, pillows were quality, bedding clean and crisp. A small work desk and chair, night lights. Towels and toiletries. Location is a 3 minute walk from the big Coke sign in King Cross. There’s a grocery store right there and lots of places to eat. I took a short (20 minutes walk) to Mrs Macquarie Chair, the Domain and a great spot for viewing Sydney Opera House and The Sydney Harbour Bridge. Reception staff really helpful and lovely.

Only minuses: was a loud motor (maybe an air con) would come on suddenly and scare me awake at about 7am.
No elevator but I was travelling light and the receptionist assisted me with my bags up the 4 flights of stairs to get to my room (327) on the 2nd floor.
Bathroom looks like it could do with a good scrub.

I will DEFINITELY stay here again. I loved it!

We arrived after our 18 night cruise with loads of luggage only to find that this hotel doesn't have a lift.

There are steps up into the hotel and then you have to take your heavy luggage up the stairs to your room. I have mobility issues and walk with a stick so as you can imagine this was totally unacceptable.

The male receptionist was as helpful as he possibly could be and offered to help us up to the first floor with all our luggage. As we was only staying 3 nights we reluctantly checked in.

The room was small but adequate with a large bathroom and toiletries.

There was a safe, fridge and desk but our window faced a wall and you couldn't open it.

Next door to the hotel is an excellent place for breakfast.

The hotel is located in Darlinghurst and not far to walk to the king's cross area.

Great rooms, stylish decor, sumptuous beds and located a hop, jump and skip away from the Kings Cross Station that will take you to any part of Sydney. Enjoyed the stay tremendously. However, do be careful shifting anything from the mini bar as it is computerised to charge you even if you just move it to stock your personal stuff. Tell FOH to remove all the contents so that you can use it for your own F&B. Also, my room, despite it being a Superior category, didn't have a safe box (reason given that the hotel is being renovated? Huh??). Plus... staff and guests walking on the wooden floors heavily will disrupt your sleep. All in all.. a good hotel!

The good - the location is pretty central and the bed was very comfortable. The ride to/from the airport was about 20 minutes and about 50 dollars Aus. We could book the room for one night on the New Years' weekend and it was < $200 US.
The rest - Overall, the Kirketon could use an update. The hotel facility was retrofitted into the building and while this can produce a fun and funky (in a good way) experience, the Kirketon is more funky (in not a good way). The lobby and room furnishings are tired and weird (not in a "hip" way). The windows are FILTHY. I think the room and bathroom were clean but the lighting is not great. There is no lift so be prepared to carry you and all your stuff up the stairs. Our room was strangely laid out so that there was about 1 foot between the bed and wall and we had to lift our suitcases over the bed to get them to the other side where we could put them down. We also basically had to walk sideways to move through that opening. The bathroom was a long, thin (~12 foot x 2 foot - think bowling lane) "room" with a small sink at the top of the corridor and toilet at the end with the shower jutting back into the main room on the side.

Fast check in / we actually stayed on 3 occasions . We stayed in the hotel in 2007 and it hasn’t been updated since! Rooms varied but are dark , furniture not in great condition and plug sockets hard to find . Shower bath equipment often cracked but clean .
The location is good and price is good for expensive sydney. One room (308) was so bad we requested a move. It’s very handy fir Darlinghurst and Paddington and Oxford street . Decor reminds me of an 80s gay club !

Me and my daughter booked this hotel as in the pictures on the booking.com website look very clean and good. Not the case. Firstly there was no lift to any rooms which was a struggle to pull our cases up the stairs. Wow.then we opened the room door in horror. There were stained all over the floor and walls. Holes in the wall where the sockets were also the room had a musty smell about it not to mention the size of the room was tiny. The curtains were drawn when we arrived and as I opened them the Window pane was cracked. No wonder they were closed. My daughters room was just about the same. These rooms are really not good and what a disappointing experience this was. The rooms are filthy with paint peeling off the wall and skirting boards as well as likes in the wall in my room. The shower room was so filthy I would not have wanted to shower in it. This is by far the worst hotel room I have ever stayed in. Please do not go there as this is not even a 1 star hotel. What I will say is that we went stray down stairs to vent our disappointment and the Chinese lady offered to refund our money straight away thankfully. We do appreciate that this was a cheap hotel but that does not excuse the dated and dirty conditions that the room had to offer.

Stayed 3 nighst in November 2019. Great location. Can walk to many highlights of Sydney. Surrounded by lots of choices in pubs, restaurants, bars and supermarkets. Rooms are boutique (small) but perfectly ok. Well maintained and clean. Staff very helpfull. There is no elevator if you are on the 2nd floor and narrow stairs to climb, but reception staff always offer to help with your bags. Would definitely stay here again.

The reason I gave this hotel 1 star is that the only good thing is the location.
The reception and the reception staff were nice. First thing to know is there is isn't a lift, so for the more senior clients this could be a problem as there isn't anyone to help either.
Our room.....strangely the curtains were drawn when we entered, on opening them we saw the skirting board was not attached to the wall! The housekeeping is pretty much none existing....window filthy on the inside, doors, window ledgers were appalling, carpet had not see a hoover in a long time. The bedding had so much starch in it, it quite literally made your face sore. Had I taken the time to read the reviews we would never have stayed, so please read the reviews and find somewhere else to stay.

Good location, easy to find, near many places. The room was clean and beautiful, I quickly took a few photos.
We arrived at 12:00 noon, they helped me check in 2 hours early and did not charge a fee.
The only downside is that the hotel does not have an elevator

Hi, I have booked 4 nights for June and how do I book the transfer from the airport?
Answer from Jude533
Perth, Australia38 contributions19 helpful votes
I agree with the previous reviewers answer although we usually get an Uber ride. The ride share pickup place is not as convenient to locate as the taxi rank but the signage is clear. It’s cheaper than a taxi and we’ve always had neat, clean cars with pleasant drivers. Cost is usually about $38 with airport tax depending on traffic & time of the day. . Once at the Kirketon, transport is easy as you’re very close to Kings Cross station. Purchase a blue Opal card from a newsagent on route to station just down from the hotel before you board. Buses also run regularly on Victoria St. You’ll also need a blue opal card to travel.

The Holiday Inn Potts Point is the nearest hotel on Victoria Street - same street as the Kirketon, check on Google maps. The Kings Cross Station is almost next door to the Holiday Inn and about 4/5 mins walk to the Kirketon.
