We had made an incorrect booking one night short at another hotel on the same street who were trying to charge us a phenomenal amount to extend our stay by one night. We just needed one night stay before flying home. This hotel was ever so gracious in taking us in at short notice and with a very reasonable overnight rate.
We had to evict the other building at 10am and Best Western Stella allowed us to check straight into their available room which was a life saver so we weren't out on the streets with suitcases for 4 hours.
Room 504 was exceptional! Clean and sanitary yet homely and comfortable. All decor very functional and tasteful. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept soundly with no back complaints which we do get in bad beds. The kitchenette was perfectly set up with all your needs met including a toasted sandwich press, very handy. The only thing it was lacking was a cutting knife and ice cube tray.
The location is perfect being close to the gorgeous Hyde Park and walking distance to the best shopping precinct at QVB and Westfield. Loads of cafes, bars, supermarkets, bottle shops etc close by, and public transport and taxis are readily available. The in-house restaurant had a really generously priced menu and breakfast deals, we didn't use them as we had to leave early but would have loved to take advantage had we stayed longer.
The staff who checked us in were lovely gentlemen. One was in training and I can tell he will be a wonderful new addition to the business as his presence and demeanor were very genuine, friendly and helpful. I can't thank them enough for catering to our need to check in early (this did come with a small fee that we were happy to cover). They helped us getting a taxi on our way out and with our cumbersome luggage, bless em!
I have only praise for the whole stay here: staff, location, price, facilities, cleanliness, decor, comfort, and provisions.
Highly recommend to any couples wanting to stay near the Sydney City Centre.

We had an excellent visit at Hotel Stellar. My family of 4 (two kids, 11 and 8) had initially booked through an external online service, and that service screwed up our reservation. The front desk staff were extremely courteous and helpful in assisting us with resolving this situation, and managed to get us two rooms right next to each other on Floor 1 for basically the same price. The rooms had all the amenities you want, were very comfortable, and were cleaned daily. Wifi was great. Location was also great. Very high marks for our first visit to Sydney.

We stayed in a large room with a half kitchen while visiting the city of Sydney. It may not appear elegant on the outside but the hotel room was spacious and clean. The staff were all friendly. The bed was comfortable and the shower pressure was good. And the price was right for the 5 nights we stayed there. An added bonus was the self served laundry room to wash your clothes for a small fee. We were on an upper floor and had a great window view of Hyde Park and could see St. Mary's Cathedral in the distance. The location was perfect for our needs because the grocery was around the corner and the Metro Station was a couple of blocks away (about a 5-7 minute walk). The Metro will transport you to all the major tourist stops, including Circular Quay and the Airport. But transportation around NSW is another review. This hotel had the best customer service. As we entered the small hotel lobby and was waiting to check in, I overheard the plight of a visitor who missed his reservation window and wanted a room. The receptionist, Felicia, was patient and acted professional during the entire time the visitor became irate telling him that the hotel was fully booked for the night. I was quite impressed how she managed to control the uncomfortable situation. The hotel manager finally came over to help out so she could check us into our room. I highly recommend this hotel and if I return to Sydney, I would stay there without hesitation.

I’ve stayed at many hotels of this level over the past 2 years and this is by far the best.
The hotel room was clean, comfortable and quiet. As a business traveller that is all you want. As a bonus, I had a room with a kitchenette which made it easy and the breakfast downstairs was convenient and very reasonable. I will definitely stay here again!

From the outside, and from the main reception, I'll be honest, I thought 'Oh no! What have we done'. It felt like a dingy, rough hotel. However looks can be deceiving. The hotel had upgraded us to a self-catering apartment, but with the continued daily service.
This was great for us, as we hadn't paid for breakfast, but could benefit from the fridge to stock up on milk and cornflakes for our stay!
The hotel was relatively quiet during our 4 night stay so slept well, and was well located for exploring the city. We made a few trips to the food court off Liverpool Street for evening meals, and even brought back a takeaway one night from the Hungry Jacks (Burger King) around the corner. The hotel even encouraged us to order food to be delivered if we wanted.
If like us, you arrive with lots of luggage from the train station, we'd recommend getting a taxi from the station. We struggled pushing 2 large cases up the hill to the hotel. We took a taxi going back!

We booked a Twin Studio (two large beds) for 3 persons for 3 nights. Room is clean and of good size and layout, with a small kitchenette and dining table.

Check in was a breeze and we were given a room on level 6, the top floor which is quiet. Staff were pleasant and make us feel very welcome, with their ready smile and prompt assistance. We had some issue with payment for transfer from hotel to airport and Michael and his team were most patient in helping us sort things out.

Hotel is about half an hour walk to Sydney Opera House which was ok for us. In May, the weather was cold and windy, which makes walking easy and pleasant without breaking into a sweat.

In fact, we did not take any public transport in Sydney City and walked from Hotel to Circular Quay/The Rocks, Surry Hills, Haymarket/Chinatown and Darlington.

Clean and comfortable property that is well located on the Hyde Park side of town. Was literally around the corner to my office. The room was very spacious for a studio and loved that it had a decent sized kitchenette.

Bed was really comfortable and the wifi worked well. The COVID19 hygiene protocol is top notch and there were radio phone charging station on the bedside as well as a decent sized work desk and small dining table.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout my stay and it's close by to Musuem station.

Will definitely stay again when next on that side of town.

Fairly nice hotel. Nothing spectacular but well priced and very well located. Front desk staff were efficient and professional. Front door requires card access after 7pm.

This hotel is an old building so think large rooms and high ceilings. The rooms are very clean and comfortably furnished with the usual amenities and accompaniments expected of a mid range hotel in the Sydney CBD. AC was a split system located high on the external wall rather than the usual hotel ducted system and seemed to do it's job ok. Bed was large and comfortable. Shower pressure and temp all good. The only small detraction was the thinness of the walls. Noise intruded from neighbouring rooms and there was also noise from the room above. A bit of street noise intrudes but not unacceptable by any means

Overall a fairly decent choice especially if booked at a competitive price. The hotel is well located very close to Museum train station and within reasonable walking distance to the Rocks and Darling Harbour etc with plenty of good dining options and hotels nearby in Surry Hills.

Very friendly and personable staff. Rooms are very well maintained, with 1/2 kitchen included, a sofa and a breakfast table. Extremely comfortable bed. Hot water pot, iron and microwave and refrigerator. The attached cafe is also accessible to outsiders. Great breakfast and sandwiches, coffees and other drinks available for purchase.

The hotel itself is not bad, clean and comfortable, however the car park is a logistical nightmare ! After booking out the receptionist casually said if you need help to get out of the parking area just let me know. Famous last words ! I was told previously that my car a Toyota RAV4 would fit in and out, true to a point. Getting in was easy, getting out involved three other hotel guests moving their cars around in a very very tight space to get any of us out, then I hit the concrete pillar which will result in a very costly replacement of a side door. The whole “ getting out of the parking space” took 45 minutes or more. The three others drivers were horrified as well. I’ve called the hotel directly to tell them I was issuing this review. The only cars that should have access would be nothing bigger that a mini , a disappointing end to a family getaway.

What is the best way to get to the hotel from the airport?
Answer from Oldjack

I would suggest a taxi as the best and fastest and economical if there is more than one person. The other option is a train into the city but this may take longer and there is a walk from the station. There are a number of station options and Central is about a kilometer.Check a map and the train route but I used a tax at a cost of around $A30-$40.
