The Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel at Circular Quay offers an excellent location, beloved by guests for its proximity to attractions and the harbor. However, opinions on its value are divided; the high costs for parking and services don't always meet expectations.
Reviews indicate a need for room and decor modernization, and while cleanliness receives mixed feedback, the hotel's staff is often commended for their helpfulness. Despite some slow service reports, amenities like the Executive Lounge add appeal for visitors.

Detailed Reviews
My wife and I arrived in Sydney two days early for a cruise that was leaving from a nearby dock, and stayed at this hotel. Our flight from the U.S. arrived before noon so we had a few hours to wait until the standard room availability time of 3:00pm. This Marriott had a suite where guests such as us could take a shower and change clothes, to tide us over until our room was ready. Then, the Concierge held our bags for us while we explored the nearby dock area, only a couple of hundred meters away. When we checked in at around 3:00pm, we were assigned a room with a lovely view of the nearby harbor area. Our reservation included daily breakfast in the restaurant in the hotel lobby. The buffet-style breakfast was excellent both days we enjoyed this amenity. Unfortunately, I left a personal item in the room safe but, no worries, the Concierge recovered the item and had it shipped to my home address. The hotel staff was friendly and professional, the facility was located in a super area and everything about our visit was outstanding. If/when we ever return to Sydney, this is where we’ll be staying.

I stay in Marriott properties a lot and while the location is great for this property, that’s where the positives end. This hotel is always very busy so expect delays at front desk for check-in and check-out. Under staffed is a key theme when you look at the reception area for loads of guests it receives. The rooms feel tired (have stayed here twice now to give the hotel a second chance) and the are in need of an upgrade compared to Park Hyatt nearby and Four seasons which in some cases cost less. If you are a bonvoy member Oman’s the location is not as critical I would recommend Sheraton Hyde Park. The staff make me feel at home and give guests seemingly extra attention and it’s only a few blocks away. Don’t get me wrong, the Marriott at circular quai is ok but just lower your expectations. If local Harbour attractions are important than this is the place to stay. Overall, ok hotel but the location is only reason to stay.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
The hotel seems to have let standards slip, and service is below what others are experiencing in quarantine in other Starwood branded hotels in Sydney. At this stage, they have had 15 months to practice in getting things right, and they are struggling when others are getting things very right, with the same restrictions being applied.
The positives are that the room is a reasonable size, ventilation is OK for a single traveller and the food whilst not a gourmet experience is reasonable. Serious praise should also go to the people who carry deliveries up who are always quick.
The negatives. The staff at the end of the phone can come across as highly patronising and tone deaf to specific requirements. Speaking to other guests on virtual meet ups, this observation is consistent with other peoples’ experience.
The checkin process could only be described as an omni-shambles. People were kept in sealed buses (high risk of Covid transmission) whilst only 2 checkin desks were being run, with other staff just standing in the back doing very little.
Internal services are slow, inconsistent and expensive. For example ordering an item from within the hotel took two calls and a 4 hour wait. By contrast, ordering a coffee across the road took 20 minutes and was 37% cheaper than the hotel’s own offering.
The virtual meet up organised by the hotel could only be described as inept. the Zoom call started 15 minutes late, was recorded and then cut off abruptly at the 1 hour mark with little warning.
Lastly, very little is supplied to help in cleaning your room or your own clothes. The rails in the bathroom are not heated, and the hotel is unable to help.

Dear madtravel78, Thank you for taking the time to share your current quarantine stay experience with us. We are glad to hear that you felt our room size to be reasonable and appreciate your comment regarding prompt delivery services carried out by the hotel team. Your feedback is extremely valuable to us, as we continuously strive to improve with each and every quarantine group. As you can appreciate, whilst we participate to support the NSW Government's hotel quarantine, many of the operation aspects are facilitated by NSW Police, such as the bus transfer and arrival process. Having said above, I can completely understand that there may be some unforeseen delays and challenges for the quarantine passengers. I am very sorry to learn that the quality of service provided by our team did not quite meet your expectations. Please rest assured that your comment have been shared with the team to ensure problems of this nature do not occur in the future. Should your future travel bring you back to Sydney, we would like to offer you our personal assistance to ensure you have a problem free stay with a remarkable experience. Warm regards, Bernhard Langer General Manager

This is the perfect hotel for a cruise sailing from Circular Quay. We arrived via the airport train which was an easy 35 minute ride and a short walk to the hotel. We arrived early in the morning from the US and we were provided with a welcome early arrival room/center which included drinks, snacks, bathroom with shower, and comfortable seating. There were several other guests there but there was plenty of room for all of us. We left our luggage at the desk and spent the day walking around the harbour area. This hotel is close to shops and restaurants along the harbour and a short walk to the opera house, Sydney museum and beautiful parks. We ate at the hotel bar and the food was excellent! Staff were helpful and friendly, especially Jessica and Bridget at the front desk. We walked 2 blocks to our Princess ship the next morning and returned to the hotel for 2 nights after our NZ cruise. Would definitely stay here again.

I was allocated this quarantine hotel and I was excited as it’s meant to be a good 5 star hotel. Since it’s all a potluck, I didn’t get to choose my own room but it is a very comfortable room with all amenities one can need. I didn’t get water views unfortunately but the picture window was big and I had the view of the city. It did not feel claustrophobic considering that the window was openable.
The bed was very comfortable, there was a desk and a chair for working, the wifi was excellent, the TV was big and had free view channels. I was able to connect the TV to my laptop for a bigger screen to work on. The aircon could be controlled well with the thermostat and the bathroom was more than adequate. The toiletries provided in the room had great aroma.
All was great as far as room was concerned and I could give 5 stars for that.
The food however was disappointing at times. This is the food that the hotel is meant to provide as part of the quarantine so I was never expecting the real 5-star quality food that the hotel would normally provide for their normal customers. They also provided a discounted in room dining menu but discounting 5-star prices don’t end up that discounted after all and after having forced to pay $3000 for quarantine I couldn’t splurge on in room dining. There is also the option to get food delivered by Ubereats or family or friends can deliver as well.
But knowing that $3000 for quarantine is to cover for food and accommodation I really wanted to eat what I was being given. I was told that the in house chefs did the cooking so I had some higher expectations.
Being a vegetarian did not help much. The food at times was bland and not much thought went into them.
The tofu and watermelon salad was literally just that and it didn’t taste very appealing or appetising. It felt that those two things shouldn’t be together. The veggie burger came be a just patty between the buns and nothing else in between. The “veg” Thai curry only had bok choy and carrot, was very salty and didn’t have the palm sugar that normally goes into the Thai curry. The ravioli tasted like it was from the supermarket and not fully cooked. Most of my salads came with either tofu or falafel but it was not very tasty. Falafel was salty and dry every time.
It felt like the hotel was trying hard to cut costs in food as I can imagine $3000 for 14 nights in a 5 star hotel is a pretty amazing deal but it doesn’t mean this kind of food should be acceptable.
I must however commend the pastry chef as the desserts with dinner were all amazing!
I can’t say for the normal hotel food but for the quarantine food I can only give 3 stars at best for trying.

Dear prismatic17, Your feedback is extremely valuable to us and we appreciate the time you have taken to share your NSW Government quarantine stay experience. We are glad to hear that your room and amenities were to your liking, however sadden to hear your disappointment regarding the food offering. As you can appreciate, all meals are prepared fresh daily and carefully catered to accommodate the necessary dietary requirements/restrictions. Unfortunately this can be challenging, as our Culinary team prepares and packs over 2000 meals each day and delivered in a COVID safe manner. Rest assured your feedback is valued and I have also conveyed your kind compliments to our pastry chef who was delighted to hear that his efforts are appreciated. We hope your quarantine stay has not dampened your perception of the hotel and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future! Sincerely and warm regards, Bernhard Langer General Manager

I must say the staff did a great job on helping my partner to organize a surprise cake, balloons and wine in our room for my 40th birthday celebrations and gave us a fantastic upgrade with an exceptional view of the harbour bridge. However we were both left disappointed by the following, we weren’t aware that all meals had to be served in our room due to covid and the bar area was shut off. This was not the case at near by hotels meaning we spent our time and money enjoying their facilities instead. Also we were aware that the hotel was taking quarantine travelers during our stay and were advised a strict protocol was in place. Upon leaving in the morning we were greeted by two bus loads of quarantine travelers mingling in the foyer area and at no time were we advised of the arrival of these travelers.
Marriott, some very simple advise! Tell your paying patrons of these arrivals so they can at least decide if they want to stay in their rooms, leave earlier to avoid close contact or if they call to check prior to booking a room as I did, let them know of expected arrivals so they have the choice to make their own decisions as to stay at your hotel or elsewhere.
Perhaps you should consider a more discrete area for these travelers to be checked in upon arrival so your paying customers don’t have to be put in contact with a potentially dangerous situation???
To be quiet frank I have only stayed at this hotel twice now, as a Marriott Gold Elite member the first time I wasn’t overly fussed by the hotel but thought I’d give it another try for my birthday. I was surprised on my second stay with the effort the staff went to in helping arrange a great surprise for my birthday and their attention to delivering meals, bedding etc to our room when requested, the let down however was not being informed or being given the opportunity to make our own safety choices given the current world environment we now find ourselves in.

My stay was back in Apr 2019. As a Platinum Elite member, I was not upgraded to a suite. However, they did put me in a Opera House view room. By nature, the hotel is not really next to the opera house so you get a glimpse of it in between the rest of the buildings. Well, it's still better than nothing.
Room size was decent, like any typical Marriott Hotel. The hotel is very big so there's not much personal touch between staffs and guests. The only Marriott hotel that has the best personal touch is Melbourne. They literally greet you and make their guests feel very happy that they exist in this hotel. However, I did not get the same vibe in Sydney. We were just another guest in the hotel.
The Executive lounge was just alright, good amount of food during happy hour and tea. However, the staffs need to be less rigid. I can't remember what time it starts, probably 5pm? Let's say 5pm - and the food and alcohol was already ready by 4.55pm. I saw someone pouring a glass of wine and was told off by the staffs at 4.56pm that it hasn't started! Jeez, it is only couple of minutes, why need to be so rigid? It's absolutely ridiculous - whoever who are entitled or had paid for the access, have already spent enough what is that 2-3 minutes? It was even more unnecessary to scold a guest that way. I can't remember her name but it was a middle aged lady who was serving the food. I also noticed some of the staffs have no interest in having conversation with Asian looking faces and white/old people seemed to receive better treatment. The only person in the lounge who engaged a conversation with us was Tony the young boy with specs who looks like he was doing a part time job. He was the only one who was neutral to anybody, who constantly checks if we were good. The rest of the staffs could not be bothered with our existence.
Breakfast is not served downstairs, in Asia, we are given the choice of either common area or lounge. Here your only choice is at the lounge with really limited food.
But Marriott is not all that bad. The location is pretty good, just across the street and you'll be at the harbourside. A bit far from the shopping area but walkable. I did not do much shopping so it wasn't relevant to me. Westin is a better hotel for shopping but it's just too crowded. Marriott is more on the quiet side which I prefer.
All in all, this is just a business hotel with no added value to loyal members. Other than Tony who seems the most junior of all but has the best guest relations skills, I really did not think anything else in Marriott Sydney is worth remembering.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sydney Harbour Marriott. The staff was very attentive and the location was very convenient to many of Sydney's main sites such as the Opera, Rocks, ferries, Museum of Modern Art, etc. We also enjoyed access to the lounge with very extensive breakfast, tea and dinner offerings.

I was here for a work conference. We used the conference rooms on the 3rd floor and they were great, and the catering for morning tea/lunch/afternoon tea was delicious. The Arancini balls we had for afternoon tea were the best Arancini balls I have ever had and everyone else said the same: 10/10.
My room was spacious and clean and bed was very comfortable. I had a view of the Opera House. The bathroom was clean and modern.
We had breakfast every day in the restaurant and the food was delicious, they catered extensively for all tastes but especially healthy options.
One night we went to the Customs Bar on site (outside) and had a BBQ dinner/drinks.
Overall highly recommended for a classy stay right on Pitt St near Circular Quay.

I had a couple of free Marriott Bonvoy nights & points to utilize, so we decided to use them here for the NYE celebration, especially since they are located very close to Harbour Bridge & Sydney Opera.
We were greeted by a very friendly front desk staff - Victor, who made sure we get the room with the Harbour Bridge view so that we get to see the fireworks.
The room was spacious, clean & had all the necessities you'd expect from Marriott. The best thing was obviously the bed, as it was comfortable, and the view. I couldn't help but notice that the room was in need of an upgrade, the same as the rest of the hotel.
We had breakfast at Silvester’s, and I have to say, after months of lockdown (we came from Melbourne) and being away from anything normal, this was a breath of fresh air for us, as we really missed breakfast buffet! They had a good selection, and make good coffee to order.
The biggest plus is the location, as it's literally a walking distance from the main train station & city trams. You don't really have to go far for food & drinks options either.
On NYE, they surprised us with two mini bottles of Chardonnay & Rose and a box of chocolate. It made our night special.
We also used their gym facility during our stay, and have to say that although the hotel gives you the vibe that it's outdated, the gym had a lot of worn-out equipment. They still did the job, and you will get a good outcome of a good workout, but it just didn't look very pleasing. The pool is indoor and had very limited sunloungers.
We tried Customs House Bar and were pleasantly surprised by the amount of tab beer options they had! They serve great food as well.
At the time of checkout, we had a bit of a misunderstanding with the front desk, which was resolved without a fuss, but he wasn't friendly and just gave us the vibe that we should just leave. He didn't bother asking if we enjoyed our stay or if there is any feedback.
But despite that, I still think this hotel has a great location, and the close proximity to The Rock and Circular Quay is an added plus.

The 2 bedroom suite had a washer and dryer. Not sure about other units.
We didn’t have a car. The hotel is two blocks from train, ferry, bus and light rail. Unless you are going somewhere far, you might be ok to get around without a car. They have an Avis rental office at the hotel. When we were there in Jan 2023. You could probably just rent on the day you need it. Public transportation in Sydney is very easy and excellent value.
They will hold you bags at the hotel. We did this in November and walked a couple of block to the Quay to enjoy the view and have lunch. Great way to start your stay.
Two cruise ports operate in Sydney. One is walking distance from the hotel. The other is on the other side of the Harbor. We used Uber and cabs in Sydney.

Start with: mhrs.sydmc.ays
Then use the AT sign.
Then add: marriotthotelsplus
Then add the usual ending.
I hope that is clear.
