We only stayed for a couple of nights B&B but this was a nice clean hotel close to the centre and Darling harbour. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good. A nice little personal touch they give you a bar of chocolate with your name on. You can also book a airport shuttle from here which is much cheaper than a taxi. There is a good Irish pub across road which does great food.

Another fantastic stay. The hotel is in a great location in close proximity to shops, Oxford St nightlife, gyms, supermarkets and restaurants. Quality linens. Comfy beds. Great staff. Will return again.

We stayed here for a few nights pre-crusie and found this to be a great spot for getting out and about in Sydney. The room was comfortable, staff really friendly and helpful. Great shops and cafes nearby, not too far to get on any of the transport links and many interesting areas nearby- the Rocks, Chinese Quarter, Darling Harbour (where we watched the free firework display on Saturday evening). Would recommend.

Just stayed here for seven nights. Excellent hotel especially for the price. Superb meals but if you do not want to eat in the hotel the bus is only two minutes away to take you to Circular Quay and all that Sydney has to offer. Nice big bedroom - two double beds. A small balcony overlooking the skyscrapers of Sydney and a distant view of the Opera House.

Response from CambridgeHotel, General Manager at Cambridge Hotel Sydney

Dear BD1234, Thank you very much for choosing to stay at Cambridge Hotel Sydney back in 2003 and for your time to write a review to share with us. We have only been able to reply all previous feedback since Tripadvisor has allowed us to have a ‘management respond’ access on this travel review website. It was pleasing to hear that you liked our service and hotel’s facilities. Yes, the hotel is very convenient to access most of Sydney’s interesting attractions by walking, bus or train. A lot has changed in our hotel since you were here: we refurbished all guest rooms, updated all TV to 40-inch digital with complimentary Foxtel channels, a completely new modern Italian restaurant and bar will be opened in Mid-November we will also be opening a brand new 5 star apartment hotel of ours, in next door , late this year. We hope you will come and check out with all these changes in person and we look forward to the prospect of welcoming you back to Cambridge Hotel Sydney in the future. Warm regards Steven Gargano General Manager

My daughter and I have just come back from a two week stay at the Comfort Inn Cambridge.

It was with some trepidation that we stayed here, following the reviews I had read. The hotel is so central, very close to Hyde Park and Paddington with great eateries very close by. The staff were brilliant and went out of their way to be very helpful. We booked a standard twin room and got a huge room with two double beds, sofa, desk and chair, huge wardrobe with safe and very good bathroom. Very clean. The hotel felt very safe. Swimming pool and spa were great, not huge but a good size.

When I next go to Sydney, will definitely stay here again.

I was always a very regular guest at the Cambridge, with work taking me to Sydney quite often and the location was very suitable to access arterial roads as well as the airport roads. The staff were always welcoming and remembered their regulars.

But my last stay there was definitely my last. During an evening shower the drain started to back up and foul coloured water started gurgling back out of the drain. Needless to say it was disgusting. I ended up finishing washing myself in the basin.

On my way out to my evening appointment, which I was very late for due to the plumbing problem, I went out of my way to report this to the front desk and asked if it could not be fixed ASAP, to change my room as it was unacceptable. I was told someone could come up with a plunger then and there (which wasn't convenient or acceptable) or would be seen to ASAP. So imagine my horror when showering the next evening, the foul water started up all over again. I rang the desk and it was simply oops, something got overlooked and would I like someone to come up with a plunger?

This was the last straw. One time I checked in and there were brown dribbles down the front of the toilet which Mark the duty manager willingly cleaned up but was acutely embarrassed and the visit before that was the under-carpet water leak which had gone mouldy and stank. Breakfast seems to be going down hill with the range shrinking and somewhat aloof staff in there sometimes who make you feel like an interruption. Not to mention the slow cooker food warmers that just stew everything.

The final insult was to be offered a 'fantastic discount' of 20% on my next stay for the blocked drain. No thanks. I do have a simple expectation of functioning plumbing or guest service to give me a room with does have this. Not a staff member with a plunger.

I have since discovered some fantastic hotels in and around the Cambridge area and now that I am in Sydney more than ever, I have a couple of new home away from homes.

Frightening - I am female and was travelling alone. From the minute I arrived until I left I was nervous. It is in the middle of the "pink" light district, which I didn't know when I booked it. Nothing worked - television, elevator, I couldn't get the security lock on my room to work. I was travelling alone and just wanted a hotel for overnite till I caught my early morning flight. They missed my wake up call but that was alright, since I didn't sleep all night because of the sirens, etc. When I made it to the front desk at 6:15 am to check out I saw that the front desk clerk was too busy watching "inappropriate images" on his computer - guess that was why he missed calling me. The staff did not care about any of the problems I incurred - Bad, bad way to end my trip of a lifetime to Australia.

Dear NBCantravel, We have only recently had the facility to reply to all previous feedback from this travel review website. It was sorry to hear that you didn’t have a good experience during the time you stayed with us in 2006. However the issues you had experienced should not be a problem today. The hotel’s name has been changed to Cambridge Hotel Sydney and it has had a completely ‘make-over’ since you were here. A new team has changed Cambridge Hotel into one of the attractive smaller hotels in Sydney since 2007. All guest rooms and public areas have been refurbished and all facilities are up-to-dated. The hotel has developed to a property which including a 3-star with self-check in system,a 4-star hotel and a 5-star apartment hotel. The area in which the hotel is located has changed to a secure, vibrant dining, fashion, art, tourism attraction and a nice residential area. You can check out all these updates from our website or come back in person to experience the changes. Thank you very much again! Warm regards Steven Gargano General Manager

Have stayed here 4 times now and each time it has become more and more run down. Considering how expensive Sydney can be, it’s probably good value for money. Indoor pool means you can swim year-round. It’s location away from busy Oxford Street means you are away from the noise but have public transport close by. Would most likely stay here again but would shop around first for a better deal elsewhere.

Dear A TripAdvisor Member, Thank you to choosing to stay with us back in September 2005 and for taking the time to viewing your stay with us. We have only recently had the facility to reply on previous feedback from this travel review website. We were pleased to hear that you considered our hotel good value for money, and that our location was convenient. We are always improving our standard of service, we have even better trained staff today it means providing a better service to our guest, we have up-to-date facilities; Cambridge Hotel now developing to three levels of hotel service to meet our guest needs: 3-star hotel with self-check in system which called Abey hotel it occupied level 1-3 of Cambridge property, Cambridge Hotel from level 4-14 still remain 4-star hotel service, and a 5-star apartment hotel called Adge apartment hotel just next door to Cambridge hotel will give our guest a brand new, luxury experience. All these changes but our hotel price is still very competitive in the vicinity. You can check our hotel all these changes in person or get on our Cambridge Hotel website to check out, it will bring you to the other two website as well. We look forward to the prospect of welcoming you back to Cambridge Hotel in the future. Warm regards Steven Gargano General Manager

Where to begin? I e-mailed the hotel on 4 separate occassions over a 7 day period enquiring about availability before they were able to get back to me (their website was undergoing an upgrade and their rates/availability status constantly changing). I was then quoted a price that was $25 per day higher than that which their own website was quoting. Hmmm. At this stage, due to the delay I had had to make alternative arrangements for the bulk of my visit to Sydney. Fortunately I only stayed at the Cambridge for 2 nights (at $165 per night) when all was said and done.

I can only described my room - # 302 - as grotty. The "one bedroomm suite" had walls that were heavily marked, the furniture was dirty (& someone had kindly grafittied the table lamp with their name in blue ink). One dead (small) cockroach. The bathroom was particularly unpleasant; with mould, cracked and damaged surfaces, badly water damaged floors & door. The toilet was leaking and had some very signifcant mould/water damage at it's base. It smelt very strongly of mould and overall the ventilation of the bathroom was poor. It was quite apparent that the hotel had painted over the wall tiles & grout with tile paint rather than replacing the tiles and subsequently mould had started to return in the areas around the bath and shower recess.

The lights in the bathroom were 'energy savers' set into a false ceiling and the light provided was very dim. The globes were also covered in heavy dust which wasn't helping. In addition anyone taller than 6'3" would struggle not to hit their head on the false ceiling over the shower recess. The shower head (not height adjustable) was set very low...good for reaching your armpits but not your head (I had to bend my knees to wet my head and I'm well under 6 feet tall).

Queen bed was relatively comfortable but linen had some marks/stains on it. Balcony was approximately 1metre long by 80cm wide and housed the air-con split system motor. No chair was provided. View of apartment building and lane next door.
Windows would benefit from double glazing as the area was quite noisy (hotel has an on-site bar) especially when including the noise from the motors of all the air-conditioners. Air con was effective (2 units in the room).

The Cambridge say they care about the environment in their blurb but all the fittings including toilet (single flush) & taps in my room were water guzzlers. Pretty unforgivable considering Australia's - and Sydney's - water restrictions. The hotels blurb also claims 4.5 star status which I find laughable. Sure, if you want room service at 3am! Some of us just want clean and fresh smelling rooms.

May i know where do we park our car and it is free?
Sydney, Australia7 contributions
Hi adrianhqk, Thank you for your enquiry. We have a car park available for an additional cost. It is $35.00 per night with the ability to leave your car until 2 pm day of check out. The entrance is located on Lower Campbell Street and there is a 1.8m height restriction. Our car park can be quite tight for larger vehicles. The entrance and exit are quite steep so we advise lowered cars not to use the parking. We look forward to welcoming you to the Cambridge Hotel Sydney. Many thanks,

Hi 31cindya, Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee a check in prior to 2 pm but you are more than welcome to come to the hotel. If the room is available we will be able to check you in. If not then we are able to store your luggage and will do our best to have a room ready as soon as possible for you. We look forward to welcoming you to the Cambridge Hotel. Many thanks,

Hi cc4577, Thank you for your email. The car park has a height restriction of 1.8m and can be quite tight for larger cars like your Mitsubishi Outlander. There are other options available nearby and I have listed links below: Alternative carparks with higher height restrictions are below: Sydney City Carpark – Corner of Goulburn & Elizabeth st Wilsons Parking World Square I hope the above information helps. Many thanks,
