We arrived at the hotel at around 8am knowing that check in was not until 2pm and we asked at the front desk if we could store our bags at the hotel so that we could explore the city. To our surprise, we were offered an early check-in at no extra cost which allowed us immediate access to our room....

This is a reasonably priced, comfortable hotel in a great location. Nothing flash and needs a bit of modernisation but posters in the hotel indicate that this is coming. Staff are friendly and breakfasts are quite good. The standout feature is the location in the Rocks and the proximity of pubs, restaurants and the tourists delights of Sydney.

Very good location only a few minutes from Circular Quay for Ferries and Trains plus for viewing the main sights of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Our room was basic but clean & tidy, looking recently decorated. The staff were helpful and the buffet breakfast quite good. Overall a decent hotel.

Arrived early from a flight from Singapore and although our room was not available we were able to access the pool area on the roof to freshen up. Great views to start our stay in Sydney. Location was so accessible to Circular Quay, the bridge, Opera House and plenty of bars & restaurants. Room was at back of hotel &...

I stayed at this hotel over night Saturday to Sunday. I travel weekly interstate and internationally on business and make this review based on my weekly stays at different hotels. Immediate impressions on entering the hotel foyer/lobby and check-in area are that it is clean and fairly well presented. I stayed on level 4. Succinctly: The room was quite tired,...

The location is unbeatable with close access to the Rocks, Circular Quay, Harbour Bridge and city. Was allocated a high floor as requested but the "view" was of an ugly back street. The room looked very tired and is in need of refurbishment. The window frames had peeling paint and parts of the carpet was grubby. The bed definitely needed...

Our family of four stayed at the Holiday Inn Old Sydney The Rocks in July and were very satisfied. The location is nothing short of perfect. The convenience was incredible. Just a five minute walk from the center of activity, Circular Quay, where you can catch ferries, trains, and buses, including a bus to the popular Bondi Beach. It is...

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
