This hotel came highly recommended as Rydges Sydney Harbour. Between our booking and arrival Rydges was dropped from the name and it was apparently dropped from the Rydges chain. The hotel is dated. Our room had frayed carpet and chipped and discolored tiles, and was a strange layout making it difficult to navigate. The carpets in the lobby and elevators were always littered like no one remembered to vacuum them. The staff were not very helpful and generally not friendly. We asked for a restaurant recommendation and were told “we have a restaurant on the second floor and the food is cheap.”I would not stay here again. Its cost is too high for such a low quality experience.

Paid extra for sea view. Do not pay for this as every night a cruise ship would dock and block our view until the next ship arrived. Extremely noisy. No double glazing. Annoying freezing cold air con in bathroom that is under control of hotel. Very tired and needs re vamp. Thread bare carpets. Air con fans that need dusting. No other food than breakfast. You could actually call this bed and breakfast. Two lifts. Only one works at a time and you have to wait an age for it to arrive. Would not recommend.

I paid $1000 for 2 nights stay. The room was very basic and poor quality to say the least. Anyone who stays here be aware that the bathroom exhaust fan comes on from 5.30am and stays on until 10pm. It’s sounds like a hurricane blowing and is centrally controlled so cannot be turned off. I suggest you take ear buds! The hotel maintenance man said there was nothing he could do and suggested I kept the bathroom door closed to reduce the noise. Very disappointed overall.

The information from front desk was unfortunately lacking. Only one lift in use. Took us 20 minutes to get our luggage to our room. The room was full of mold. They had an office chair in the room that blocked the room off as it didn’t fit under the desk. Poorly brought piece of furniture. Unable to use the restaurant as it wasn’t serving dinner. Overall a very poorly run, over priced hotel. The location is the only positive about the hotel. Book here only if you don’t have standards!

Mouldy rooms waiting ages for elevator as only one was in operation. Service at front desk was terrible never again for us. We had to use the fire exists up and down as the wait can be up to 20 minutes for the elevator this was extremely hard with a crook hip and a toddler.

This hotel was in a great location, the Rocks Area of Sydney. It is convenient to many restaurants, pubs and a variety of touristy shopping. It is a very nice place to just walk and enjoy, and is directly across the street from one of Sydney's cruise ship terminals. We ships from Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Cunard at the dock, while we were staying in this hotel. The included breakfast buffet was excellent and the staff were always friendly and personable. The room was very well maintained, and the provided pillows were perfect whether your preference in hard or soft. We considered the room rate good value for the amenities. Additionally, the hotel allowed us to store our luggage on arrival and departure, as we arrived before specified check-in time and departed after check-out. The hotel was an easy walk from Circle Quay; the hub for hop-on/hop-off bus tours, harbor boat tours and souvenir shops. It is also a short walk to the Sydney Opera House. We found this an excellent place to lose the jet lag and enjoy Sydney before boarding our own Australia/New Zealand cruise. We intend to revisit this part of the world again, and this will be the hotel we choose for Sydney.

Very disappointing, we stayed there in 2022 and it was ok, the big advantage was the proximity to the harbour & Opera house. we were undecided whether we'd use it again & we wish we hadn't. The lift stank of urine, I notified the reception of this and nothing happened it still smelt the same at the end of the week, the air conditioning unit was noisy and again when informed reception "oh they're all like that, it's an old building" Breakfast they haven't got a clue how to cook bacon, it was rock solid, I like crispy bacon but it was beyond crispy. No info that you could order a fried egg at the side. Don't be fooled by the photos the bar is like a cloak room and not open all the time. we came in at 10pm and the bar was shut, I could understand if we'd come in at 11 but 10pm, come on man. Don't use this hotel unless it's for one night and you're waiting for a cruise to come in the next day. New owners need a rocket up their behind to get this in order.

This was a nice stay. We had stayed here before and it seemed much the same. The first room we were allocated, on a high level, did not have opening windows, and as I am claustrophobic we asked to move which was not a problem, to a lower floor with normal windows. The first room also had a very outdated bathroom, whereas the second room was only somewhat dated - which suited us fine! There was some dispute over breakfast, as we had opted for a lower rate available if you booked in advance but I think this arrangement got lost in the changeover to the new owners. The only other major problem was having a few pages printed for a work meeting; it took ages and seemed to be a big issue for them! Otherwise I think this is an OK hotel - you pay a high price for the location, but that's to be expected. I expect a lot of its business is from people staying before or after cruises. By far the highlight of our stay was the rooftop pool which although small was rarely crowded - perhaps most people never discover it! There are fantastic views from it. There is now a tram ('light rail') from Circular Quay, near the hotel, which is very handy. And a good walking tour leaves from just near the hotel.

Response from TImo Bures, General Manager at Sydney Harbour Hotel

Dear Ert53, Thank you for your stay at Sydney Harbour Hotel and also for your review. I am very glad to hear that you enjoyed the hotel and its location, the close proximity to the Opera House and Circular Quay really makes this a fantastic spot. And yes, I can only agree, the rooftop and pool are stunning. Even for us who are in the building daily, the views continue to amaze us. I trust that the team were able to resolve your concerns with regards to the breakfast quickly and efficiently at the time of check out, and I apologise for the delay you experienced when it came to printing your documents. We are in the process of reviewing and further improving our electronic infrastructure and have discovered and resolved the origin of this issue. We hope we can welcome you back to the Sydney Harbour Hotel soon.

Location was everything. Cant beat that, But, hotel just changed management. Booked 9 months ago. Our room wasn't ready so got bumped to room on front of building. VERY NOISY at night. Loading ship in dock. Trucks all night. Hotel would not honour our breakfast from Rydges booking, wanting $35 per person. Room average.

We were in Sydney for Taylor Swift concert, booked accommodation 8 months before the event. Twin room with Harbour views, at an industry rate. Arrived at the motel to be told there was not a booking for us. The duty manager Abbie was brought out to assist us further. Apparently our booking had been cancelled only days before. We sent an email to confirm the booking a week before and received a confirmation email plus rang and spoke to a human representative who also confirmed the booking. Neither of these or the copies we had were of interest to her. Abbie bluntly told us she did not have a room. Definitely not a Harbour View room. After sometime, she said she had one room that could sleep two people. We continued by saying there was four of us, hence why we booked a room for four people she rolled her eyes was rude, disrespectful, discourteous, uncivil, she had displayed no interest or care in our situation. She insisted that we had cancelled the booking. However, why would we turn up there if we had cancelled the booking. She lied continually through our conversation, making all sorts of excuses, saying there were no rooms and then finding rooms but she was willing to charge a much higher price than our original room. She suggested we could go elsewhere knowing very well if there were rooms available due to the Taylor Swift concerts, they would be an exorbitant price. This conversation lasted almost an hour. We were shown to the room she had suggested. The room was tiny, and there was no chance of fitting two rollaway beds into it. We then returned to the reception with Rohan the friendly and helpful assistant. By this time Abbie had left and was replaced by another duty manager Ram. Ram was incredibly easy to get along with, helpful and expressed concern for our situation. After some conversation we decided to go and see the sights of Sydney while Ram said he would try and sort something out for us. When we returned, he had sorted a twin room. Very fortunate for us that Abby ‘s shift had finished and Ram’s had started. Otherwise I am unsure how we would’ve spent the next two nights. Abbie’s behaviour was disgusting and shameful. She should be embarrassed for her attitude and the poor name she has given the company she works for. We definitely will never stay at this place again. Reading some other reviews, it appears others have had some issues with Abbie the duty manager. This company should do themselves a favour and dismiss her and her disgraceful attitude.
