W Sydney stands as a modern oasis with travelers often commending its luxurious pools, state-of-the-art gym, and sumptuous breakfast spread. Nestled near the bustling Darling Harbour, the hotel boasts a prime location, albeit sometimes marred by traffic. Guests have applauded the spotless design, yet some voice frustrations with housekeeping delays. The service has received mixed reviews, with accolades for staff friendliness contrasting reports of sluggish check-in processes. Room experiences vary, with certain guests finding them lacking in upkeep. The chic, vibrant atmosphere charms many, although a few critique the ambiance and value, citing steep prices for the overall experience.

The W Hotel is definitely aimed at attracting the influencer crowd rather than being functional for travellers.

The pros -

Great location - right on Darling Harbour so a short walk to local bars & restaurants.
Beautiful styling - The rooms and common areas are styled beautifully and the views from the pool are amazing.
Fast wi-fi - Which was just as well seeing as the 5G coverage was terrible.
Good entertainment system - The tv easily allowed you to cast from your device and this worked well with both Netflix and YouTube.
Late checkout - 11.00 am

The cons -

One small entrance - located on ground level that everyone must go through. It becomes more and more congested throughout the day as guests arrive/leave with luggage and you compete for space with other guests to try and get through the door and up to the check in area on the next level.

Small check-in area - nowhere near big enough and the check-in process is slow. The staff were mostly all foreign and seemed inexperienced.

3.00 check in - consequently lots of guests hanging around waiting for their rooms to be ready. They send you to a bar to wait and they text as soon as your room is ready (ours still took over 2 hours). The bar has lovely views over Darling Harbour and we were given complimentary water and bar snacks and were able to purchase drinks and other hot food - I suspect they may delay deliberately so guests spend more money here. The bar staff were more experienced but there just wasn't enough of them to cope with the influx of people waiting.

The decor - the dim lighting in the halls along with navy walls and carpet made it quite difficult to see where you were going at times.

The bathrooms - Unfortunately are just fully open wet rooms. Water from the shower ended up all over the bathroom floor and there was no handrail in sight. Anyone with mobility issues would struggle big time, it was hard enough for us middle aged folk.

We didn't bother with breakfast as we'd heard it gets very busy. A number of restaurants at Darling Harbour offer breakfast so we walked down there instead.

Not a terrible experience but definitely a hotel that is more suited to the locals having a weekend away than travellers with lots of luggage. We wouldn't be in a hurry to stay here again despite its great location.

I had been really looking forward to staying at the new W hotel. In many ways it didn’t disappoint but I had one quite negative experience which I felt important to share. All the more so if you’re a business traveller.

Positives: the hotel has a great feel about it, the vibe, ambience are what you’d expect from a W hotel and the Maritime theme is both fun and alluring. The conference facilities were good and the food for the conference day was absolutely excellent. Very much enjoyed breakfast too and the (?homemade) drinks/ juices; nice touch. The room was good and the pillow menu appreciated with a superb firm pillow I all but fell in love with! Valet parking was also very efficient. Drop off very easy. Collection took about 10 mins but given the location, that’s not surprising and quite quick I thought! The bar seating on the 3rd level was also pretty cool and funky. Though not great if you’re in a larger group (6 or more) but great for couples and 2-5 people. Didn’t get to try out the top floor bar as was full when we tried to go on Saturday night. Clearly need to book if allowed?

Negatives. The big one for me was a family with a young child next door. I have four kids and get it but I was woken by crying at 4am coming through the inter-room adjoining door (which was closed and locked) and again every 30 mins until I gave up and went for a run in the dark at 6. Other hotels proactively try to keep individual travellers separate to families in adjoining or interconnecting rooms but this didn’t happen. When I raised this with the team at checkout, I was told I’m sorry to hear that and nothing more. To me this was the missed opportunity as I felt like my concern was trivialised. It wasn’t a complaint, rather when asked if my stay was good, I told the team what happened and essentially got a shrugged shoulder in response. So if I ever stay again especially on business, it’ll be asking for a room that will be quiet. It’s a shame I’d have to ask this up front…
Otherwise I felt somewhat claustrophobic in the hotel as the ceilings felt low and decor occasionally very dark (you will see from the pictures of the rooms) which is to some’s fancy and not to others. I’m in the middle; I liked the decor but it felt cramped at times.
Lastly, the lack of power for a few attendees to power laptops at the conferences rooms was suboptimal. Two of us had dead laptops on arrival (mine had stayed on overnight off power somehow) and we had to traipse charging wires over thoroughfares which wasn’t ideal.

So overall, I would say average in terms of experience. I really thought the team could have turned a negative into a positive when I raised the issue. if you stay make sure you ask for a quiet room as that’s not guaranteed. I would also hope the team do a better job of acknowledging issues raised with them at checkout or otherwise in the future.

A 24/7 hotel with no room service after 2am. And the drawcard rooftop infinity pool closes at 6pm.
All carefully curated style and poor attention to detail to back it up. The big bold facade is let down with the elevators which are difficult to see which lift is open and they stay open far far too long. The food is presented well but the wait staff are sadly lacking in training. Dim lighting in the wardrobe and bathroom make it impossible to differentiate colours and apply makeup. The bathroom does not have an exhaust fan giving an unwanted lengthy sensory experience. The little things are not picked up. There’s a witty note pad but no pen to write down the ‘things you won’t forget’. An elevator mat wished me a good morning at 3pm in the afternoon. The taps in the bathroom had an out of alignment square base on the cold tap. Imagine the disappointment of being out for 3 hours in the afternoon and coming back to an unmade room. The mood lighting is obviously the aesthetic carrying on to the restaurant. However choosing to rely on the street lamp lighting totally ruined the visual impact required for the 2am dessert bar experience. It also was not helpful to receive chef’s recommendations for the enjoyment of the dish AFTER the dessert had been eaten.

A crushing disappointment of an eagerly anticipated visit.

I was a bit apprehensive about staying here after reading reviews. I had no need to worry - the service at this hotel was 5star all the way. We had a 2 bedroom apartment which was stunning and well priced. The rooms were serviced every day and a supervisor often knocked on the door to check that everything was to our standard. The location was perfect - walking distance to everything- you could not really hear noise from the nearby road and there was easy access for Ubers when we used them.
I loved everything about this hotel and will definitely be back!

This new hotel is impressive on the outside wedged between freeways with gorgeous views of Darling Harbour. However when you enter the building it is like a neon sign - very W brand but the foyer with an overkill of rose gold walls, we were already wondering where we had arrived! It was packed and with so many people, lights and neon, it was overwhelmingly!
With very limited parking, either pre book valet ( which is on the very small print of your booking email) or catch an Uber.
This is def not a quiet calm hotel so if you want peace and relax don’t stay here.
Breakfast was delicious and a full buffet, gluten free options are plentiful and clearly labelled ) thank you!!) fresh juices, freshly cooked everything was a major plus despite the 20 min wait for a table. There is no Club level for bonvoy members which as disappointing.
The staff are kind and helpful which was terrific given some of the rude hungover clientele they dealt with at breakfast!
Location is terrific right at darling harbour but we won’t be returning.

Was thoroughly impressed when we first arrived and checked in to our studio but leaving utterly dissapointed as the service was such a letdown (with the exception of Justin from frontdesk and Rafael/Raphael from breakfast).

Justin who performed the check-in for us was really friendly and even gave some informative tips. I booked the Oasis 2-bedroom studio with city view and was upgraded to the harbour view (which is kind of an entitlement as I booked through HoteLux which promised upgrade when available). Was pleasantly surprised when I was told that all of us (4 adults and 2 children) would be receiving the complimentary breakfast benefit eventhough the platform informed that the benefit was only extended to 2 persons.

The studio was very nicely furnished and came with a full kitchen with all appliances and cutleries provided. The view (both day and night) was splendid. Location was great too - we walked to sealife (less than 10 minutes), fish market (around 20 minutes) and darling square (around 15 minutes). Breakfast spread was quite good with quality juices, smoothies, yogurts etc.

Now on to the bad part where the service really ruined our experience. On the 3rd day of our stay, we left the hotel rather late at around 2pm. Hence I called up the Concierge to inform that we are heading out now and to send housekeeping to clean up the unit. Returned at around 9.45pm and the unit wasn't cleaned! Immediately called Concierge and while the person apologised and promised to send someone over to clean up asap, that didn't happen! We called them up again at around 11.10pm and was told that it would not be possible to clean the room now that it is past 11pm (I called at 9.45pm though!). Did I miss the memo that rooms will only be cleaned once every 2 days? Or is this the norm for hotels in Australia as I encountered similar problem in Intercontinental Melbourne... another issue was with their drinking water. Was told that we can request as many times as we wanted during check-in but when we called, they said they can only provide 4-6 bottles of 330ml per day. How is that sufficient for a 2-bedroom unit?!

We recently stayed at the W Hotel Sydney, and our experience did not meet the expectations advertised by the hotel.

Service: The service was inconsistent. While some staff members were friendly and helpful, others seemed disinterested, unresponsive, and not knowledgeable. It took over 2 hours for a simple housekeeping request to be completed, without any acknowledgment of the delay. Their service desk/concierge aptly named 'Whatever, Whenever', lives up to the name, with service being 'whatever' the hotel feels like and 'whenever' they feel like it.

Room: There were maintenance issues with the room being smelly/musty and there being stains on the curtains. The replacement room we were provided, had one of the lights on the pedant light feature not functioning.

Overall building features/facilities are more style over substance.

If this was a tangible product, I would have returned it and requested a refund as it is a faulty product.

The price point of this hotel is completely unjustified compared to its competitors. Without a doubt, this is the most disappointing hotel in Sydney in the luxury/premium segment. The hotel requires a serious overhaul in the business model, staff training, and overall management if this hotel is to remain viable in the competitive Sydney market.

Excellent hotel, we spent a week here with work colleagues. The hotel is new, with a design worthy of the W chain and attracts mostly young and modern clientele.
The rooms are very comfortable with comfortable beds and a slightly strange bathroom in which, when using the shower, the whole area is flooded. The light knobs are also a bit odd, we had some issues but they were sorted straight away by reception.
The location of the hotel is excellent, right on Darling Harbor a very busy tourist area full of restaurants and bars. There is a great view from the pool on the 29th floor. We had breakfast (I'm Titanium and it was free) - it was very good, only on Saturday and Sunday the restaurant was a bit crowded between 9 and 10.
We also visited the Living Room bar - it's excellent and I highly recommend it, with excellent cocktails and a nice view of Darling Harbor.
Overall the hotel is great and I recommend it.

The hotel, having taken years to complete and finally open in October 2023 is a gorgeous property. The rooms are outstanding with all the latest tech and attention to detail. The views are amazing and the harbour is a great location. The breakfast may be among the best hotel breakfasts I have ever experienced and the staff there is exceedingly well trained and their guest service is at an exceedingly high level.

A couple quick comments on some current issues, which will no doubt resolve themselves over time and for which I must give the benefit of the doubt for a hotel that is less than a month old. The reception is very helpful, but it appears that their computer system is not yet where it should be and the staff are struggling with that, which is contributing to billing issues and delays. I was given no less than 6 different key cards during my 3 night stay, which is both laughable and outrageous. Occasionally they would work for the elevator but not the room, sometimes for neither. Our bill was incorrect as well, but ultimately resolved. Finally, because of the newness of the hotel, taxis and Ubers are not yet exactly sure where it is and because of the harbour location kind of sits under multiple bridges and overpasses.

One issue that isn’t resolvable is that for some reason they have placed the breakfast room on the third floor which is right at the window facing the road and you are simply watching cars driving past at high speeds the whole time. It is a very surprising misstep for a hotel that has otherwise thought of everything including their delightful bar/pool patio on the rooftop. Doing breakfast in that room would certainly have been a better idea.

Nevertheless, the accommodations cannot be faulted and once the initial opening jitters wear off, it will be the crown jewel of the Sydney harbour scene.

We had booked 2 nights at the W Sydney and another 2 nights at a different hotel. After the first night, we decided to cancel the other hotel and extend our stay at the W Sydney hotel with the assistance of Mr. Evea. The checking process was a breeze and although we arrived early from the Airport, our room was being made and was ready in 20 minutes. Kamila at the front desk explain all of the benefits and was very professional. Our room was perfect for the my wife and 2 young kids in tow (a Fantastic Jr Suite Room). The breakfast was delicious, well organized, and quite extensive. I used the headed pool on the 22nd floor I believe and the gym was perfect for me at 5am everyday (jetlagged). Had a few night cap drinks at the lobby bar and wanted to acknowledge Wendy for her service. She is an asset to this hotel. Everyone at the hotel was welcoming, acknowledging my kids (although not many kids were in the hotel), and we couldn't ask for a better location. We walked to Chinatown (10 mins) and Ferry stop (10 mins). So the location was exceptional.
