Built in 1879 and steeped in tradition, the iconic Dunkirk Hotel in Sydney truly has been Pyrmont’s local for almost 150 years. Formerly the Butcher’s Arms Hotel, it was renamed in the 1940s to commemorate The Battle of Dunkirk. This tired old hotel underwent its first refurbishment in over 17 years during the first calendar quarter of 2020 - including its cellar, Main Bar, Garden Bar, Pool Room, as well as a new VIP Lounge now located at the front of the hotel on Harris Street. The hotel's bottleshop has had an upgrade and now stocks an extensive range of beer, spirits, wine, sparkling and champagne. Further plans in 2021 include a complete restoration to the hotel's facade, as well as to our 12 accommodation rooms. We've been excited to see our old girl return to her former glory and to celebrate the immense history of this heritage-listed pub. Boasting a restaurant and a bar, Dunkirk Hotel is set in Sydney, 300 m from The Star Event Centre and 500 m from International Convention Centre Sydney. The property is around 2.1 km from Art Gallery of New South Wales, 2.2 km from The Royal Botanic Gardens and 2.5 km from Sydney Opera House. The hotel has family rooms. Popular points of interest near Dunkirk Hotel include Australian National Maritime Museum, Hyde Park Barracks Museum and Circular Quay. The nearest airport is Kingsford Smith Airport, 7 km from the accommodation. Come and see for yourself why the Dunkirk Hotel truly is Pyrmont’s local.

We stayed overnight at The Dunkirk as we were attending a concert nearby. Fortunately for us it was just to sleep and depart first thing in the morning.

The room is fairly simple. Ceiling fan, tv, bar fridge.
The bathrooms are shared by other guests and are located in the corridor.

Towels and soap are provided.

The room has windows that open out onto a busy intersection of horns honking and loud traffic 24/7. Closing the windows did minimise some of the noise.

The TV couldn’t get reception and the bedside lamps had no globes in them. The ceiling light turned on and off sporadically.

The bed was definitely the highlight as it was very comfortable with great pillows.

I would recommend as a short stay only. If constant traffic noise doesn’t cause one disruption.

It is centrally located with an easy walk to darling harbour. There is a dominoes across the road and some Indian, Thai, Japanese and Italian restaurants within a few metres. Woolworths metro is just around the corner.

We looked for an affordable place close to the city center to start our road trip in Australia. The location is ideal. It is within walking distance of Darling harbor, Circular quay and George street. We had a family room, which had a small kitchen and bathroom. The room itself was spacious and worked well for us. Just remember it is an old building. the glass in the windows is only single pane, so i doesn't filter any noise whatsoever. The hotel is on the main road that feeds the Sydney Harbor bridge so there is traffic all night with many trucks. It is fine for a couple of days. The hotel does not serve breakfast, but there is a nice place across the intersection that serves a great breakfast (Social Brew Cafe). The hotel does serve dinner and on specific night has live music as well

Would definitely stay here again. Centrally located to everything you need at a lovely end of Sydney, near the fish markets, walks around the Pyrmont to Darling Harbour foreshore. Girl that showed me to my room was very professional and friendly. Room was very basic but had everything you need if you just want to get out and explore. Despite reading others say the rooms were noisy, this was possibly the quietest pub I have stayed in. Yes I could here people coming and going but there was no loud talking which you get in more expensive upmarket motels where customers have a sense of entitlement and talk like everyone needs to here them

The first thing I noticed about the rooms was the amazing heritage features, ceiling rounds and decorative wall sconces and stained glass windows. The room was clean and contained a kitchette and very clean and light bathroom. The price was great and the pub served amazing food. I will definately stay here again.

Great location. Very helpful and friendly staff and the best part it’s very very clean. Will recommend and I shall use again. Wish there is a shelf in the bathroom so one can put their facial products like soap and shampoos. Also would be better if it had a lift but than again the price is very reasonable when you can walk to all highlight places like Darling harbour , paddy’s market and many more.

Had blood stained sheets on the bed, mould and dust all over the window shades. Walls were marked and stained.

Complained to management via phone message and email and have been ignored. Sheets were not changed so removed them and slept without the sheets. No persons available to talk to me about it.

Do not stay here

Dropped in for a drink and was promptly led to the COVID-19 registration and assisted through the scanning process. Nice and clean and socially spaced. Moderately priced drinks. When asked for assistance in locating another pub we had to visit, the staff obliged in a friendly manner.

Nice boutique hotel with pub style bar downstairs. Room was bright and cheerful. Beware, no lift and no AC. However, did provide luggage carry up to 2nd floor! Ashley was most helpful with our hotel needs as well as "concierge services" to several sight seeing destinations. BTW she was also quite good at getting us access to the internet. Had a nice stay.

Very very nice staff very accommodating. The room was small but clean. Just fine for your come and go place. No air conditioning only a ceiling fan in our particular room so it was a bit hot at times. A great little restaurant/bar on the first floor. Even when it is busy no sound disturbance in the room.

Stay in Sydney for a few days a mini getaway . Thought we would go for a walk around and thought we would pop into the pub . We were surprised really friendly staff. It still has that old style hotel feel about it which was great .
We had something to eat there as well excellent food . It was clean and there TVs so you can watch the footy while you eat . Happy days thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Depends on how fussy you are regarding quality. If you’re after 5 star don’t bother but if you’re not overly fussy and are on a budget then this place is great! We stayed in the family room, it had a queen size bed, a single bed and a sofa bed. Large room too. The owner is in the process of doing all the rooms up so it’s a little dated and not perfect but we loved it. It was walking distance to Pyrmont bridge and the ferry. Great location. And if you eat at the hotel whilst staying there you get 10% off meals, let staff know you’re staying there. Food was great too!
