Having arrived early afternoon and greeted by a lovely lady on reception we were very lucky to be offered a room upgrade for a nominal charge as we were celebrating our honeymoon. We were also given a complimentary bottle of Australian wine to enjoy in our room. We were in a 1 bedroom suite on floor 13 overlooking views of Darling Harbour. The suite was incredible with full kitchen facilities including dishwasher, oven, hob and microwave and a separate enclosed washer and dryer. The open plan lounge/dining area was large with modern furniture and full length windows looking out over the harbour. The bedroom had king size bed which was so comfortable, along with fitted wardrobes. Very quiet but also so convenient to get around Sydney. About 5 mins walk to Darling Horbour, 15 mins walk down to circular quays where the ferries leave from. The Hop on/Hop off bus ticket office is also located here. The rocks are a great place to walk around in the daytime, but also a nice place to spend the evening with plenty of nice restaurants, cafes and pubs. Thankyou Meriton Sussex Street for our lovey stay. We are already booked into the Meriton Suites Melbourne as we venture further South.

We had a 3 night stay initially, with a view of Darling harbour- very nice, albeit the bedroom was a bit of a tight squeeze - it would have been better to have taken a bit more space off the large lounge area to give the the bedroom. But a well equipped kitchenette and laundry facility. Nice to have a balcony (20th floor) albeit somewhat windy at times. No room service available given we were staying for less than 5 days, but not an issue as towels, toiletries etc could be ordered from reception and were delivered at short notice. Due to a change in circumstances we actually extended our stay by a couple of days albeit we could not stay in the same room. So we changed rooms and were allocated a room on the 18th floor again with a balcony and view of Darling harbour. Our transition between rooms was somewhat caught up in some chaos due (we think) to computer issues - but not a major problem and we believe we had a room upgrade as part of the extension, plus a bottle of bubbly to say sorry …..all very nice and the staff were commendable throughout. We would definitely recommend the Meriton at Sussex st and would return without hesitation.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
The bathroom has a barrier-free floor, and the shower water can easily overflow. You need to be careful when taking a bath, and it is difficult to relax. Maybe as a hobbit, I find it inconvenient because the shower head and shower rod are very high and the water pipes are very short.
There is no toilet seat in winter, so the toilet seat is very cold. If you don’t have a toothbrush, remember to bring your own.
The kitchen has great appliances and thoughtful supplies, especially the dishwasher. It makes me happy to buy local food and cook.
There is an outdoor balcony. It is very comfortable to have breakfast on the balcony in the sun in Sydney's winter, with the incomparable city scenery.
My children love to make toast. It is safe and convenient to bake it by themselves when they are hungry.
Thanks to the housekeeping staff and butlers for making the room comfortable and clean so that we can replenish our blood every day during our free travel.

Third time stay here. It's a great location for us when we are exhibiting at the ICC which we were again in July. We were in room 2807, fabulous view from the top floor with an outlook over Darling Harbour and up towards the Town Hall. It's a great space too for us with the two bedrooms and the enclosed balcony, which unfortunately was too windy to sit out on. We were hugely disappointed with the state of the room this stay. It is in dire need of a deep clean. Surfaces were dusty, we had to wipe down the tables before we could sit at them as they had marks and stains on them. There's a big stain down the wall of the main bedroom, all the beside lights are covered in dust, the interior windows of the enclosed balcony are filthy and covered in little hand prints, the glass splashback in the kitchen needs a good clean. Same for bathroom shelves. We had to attack a very visible stain on one of the upholstered chairs. All the window sills are covered in dust. It appears that the cleaning staff do the absolute bear minimum and surface clean only. The bluetooth speaker wasn't working either and we were given a replacement and told that it must be returned to reception on check out, otherwise we would be charged for it. The one in room 2807 Does Not Work, it needs to be replaced! I did respond directly to Meriton Suites with my observations, but I haven't heard anything back from them which implies they care as much about their guest reviews as they do about the standard of their cleaning.

Bedbug in daughter's rooms! We found bed bugs in our daughter room on the third day of our stay. We reported to management straight away and moved to a new room later in the day. We were left a bottle of wine and some chocolates for the kids, that does nothing to eliminate the stress of having to move rooms, wash clothes and check items for bedbug instead of enjoying our holiday. Nobody had a relaxing night's sleep as everyone felt itchy and my daughter had bites. I started to doubt the cleaning standards of this hotel. We couldn't wait to get home and wash everything properly. The kids were given a double bed to share instead of two singles and I just could not be bothered to complain any further. Once we moved rooms it felt like we were ignored. There was no follow up to see how we were, even on check out. We got home and had to leave all items in the garage, and I spent the following day washing everything on high heat and drying and spraying pesticides on our suitcases. I did not expect to go on holiday and have to worry about bringing bedbugs home. This was our yearly holiday, and we choose to spend more on accommodation and stay in what we thought would be a nice hotel 5 star hotel. We ended up disappointed and stressed. We can see from the rooms that the cleaning is not up to standard and very dusty. I would presume the lack of deep cleaning has contributed to the level of bedbug activity. The rooms need a deep clean and pest control. This is such a shame as this hotel is in a perfect location and the apartments are of a good size and layout. We have yet to receive a response to our complaint.

When we checked in, we were informed that full housekeeping services would take place only on Wed and Sat. We were fine with that. They called on Tue to check what was a good time for housekeeping on Wed - we said after 12, preferably before 3pm.
On Wed, we returned to the suite at 4pm to see that NOTHING was done. We were disappointed, but it was still fine at this point but everything went downhill from here. When we called to ask for basic amenities (towels, additional shower item and trash to be cleared), housekeeping came and insisted on starting the full services for us, which we politely rejected because our children needed their nap.
The next morning, we called for coffee capsules to be topped up and they took more than 30 mins and 2 calls before the capsules came. Reception checked again if we wanted the full housekeeping services, which we again rejected because we no longer wish for any of their housekeeping staff to enter our suite. We had planned to complete our stay without the full services, so we put the DND sign on the door when we left the suite on Thursday morning. We returned to the suite on Thursday evening to our horror, because our linens were changed, our freshly washed clothes were thrown on the floor, my children’s soft toys were thrown in our open luggage (because we did not expect anyone to INTRUDE into our space like this).
When I called reception for an explanation, they said there was no housekeeping record. What the hell? My beds made themselves? My clothes moved themselves? We are EXTREMELY disturbed that this is the level of disrespect for guests’ privacy, and the unacceptable level of disregard for DND sign that all hotels must and shall acknowledge. We DO NOT appreciate the clean up and in fact, with our remaining nights here, we are going to feel unsafe and threatened that our suite will be entered without our permission again.
Worst accommodation, worst housekeeping team who don’t communicate, and worst experience so far across hotels, resorts, Airbnb we have been to in our lives. We cannot wait to check out.

I had high expectations for my stay at Meriton Suites Sussex Street, given the beautiful pictures on their website, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing.
The room was very dark and lacked natural light, creating an uninviting atmosphere.
Over the five days of my stay, there was no housekeeping service at all—no fresh towels, no bed-making, and no trash removal.
The sauna was out of order and closed, and the pool water had an unpleasant smell, which made using the facilities unenjoyable.
For a stay costing over 1,500 EUR (~2,500 AUD/~1,650 USD) for four nights, I expected far better service and amenities. It’s telling that during checkout, no one bothered to ask how my stay had been, whether I needed a taxi, or offered any personal touch. That lack of engagement often speaks volumes.
Overall, this was a very average experience, and I wouldn’t choose to stay here again. The price-to-value ratio simply doesn’t match.

We selected Meriton Suites for its location within the city centre and apartment style amenities, which did not disappoint. The location is fantastic....very short walks to all public transportation (trains, trams, ferry) in addition to grocery stores, many fabulous restaurants in Darling Harbour etc. The staff were lovely as well. We were however, a bit surprised by the level of cleanliness in our particular suite as we did not feel that it merited the luxury branding advertised. For example, on arrival, crumbs in cupboards and drawers, drapes stained, stains on walls, very dusty baseboards etc. During our stay there was to be an express housekeeping service along with the full Housekeeping service....the full service never occurred during our stay. None of which affected our stay, it was just a bit surprising. Would still recommend to others as our experience may have been a one off.

The suites are modern and spacious with efficient air conditioning and all the equipment you're likely to need. The front desk is welcoming and helpful, there's a porter, but housekeeping is only on request. Be aware they charge a 1.75% surcharge on top of their already handsome prices. This is effectively a tax on foreign visitors, because the only exemption is for users of the local Eftpos system. For overseas visitors there is no alternative means of payment because they accept no more than $100 in cash.

We flew from Texas to Sydney arriving at 9:00pm tired and ready for a hot shower and some sleep. Check in was quick and friendly with a quick synopsis of the hotel and the surrounding area. We stayed for a week and neither my wife or I ever had such an excellent experience. The entire front desk staff were the most friendly and knowledgeable we have ever encountered. The pool, hot tub, and sauna were excellent and I used them daily. A short 5 minute walk up and over a foot bridge puts you in Darling Harbor with multiple restaurants, bars, retail shopping, and the Aquarium! A short 5 minute walk up the hill was more shopping including Woolworths and a mall with more restaurants and coffee shops. We checked out on the 8th went on a South Pacific cruise and a New Zealand cruise and returned to Meriton Suites on Sussex for two more nights before we flew home. We were greeted by name and even though it was 7:30am our room was waiting for us. Having a room with a washer/dryer was a great benefit and we so enjoyed our stay that we booked Meriton Suites on Adelaide in Brisbane for our adventure in March next year. Great property I highly recommend it!
