Generally very good. The room was clean except one bin had rubbish in it from a previous guest. Like the art deco and generally the place was quiet and close to everything. The only downside was we did not receive all the details about self check in till the same morning on my email and as we were travelling a approximately 3 hour distance we did not access it. Possibly send it the day before. I would stay there again as I enjoyed the experience.

Hotel is actually great. Affordable, nice room, easy check in, however if you ever have the extreme disfortune of meeting the bald manager in the morning while he is cleaning the rooms,.well safe to say you won't return. His attitude was arrogant and he came across as a truly garbage person. Having such a gross person working there it's a good choice they have electronic check in locks and no reception staff. I've also had 3 clients I've booked their express feedback. To the gentleman in question, put your head out of your behind, and learn some class. Your sub standard conduct drags down what is actually a very decent budget property.

One of these hotels that I spent there like no one else. It was a very unique experience, with all of its pros and cons. Hotel rooms (in the true meaning) are pieces of art, which every room has its own name and a designer touch. The Hotel is located in a tranquil town of Camperdown, near UniSydney and few steps to bus station. The team there is the best part. Special thanks for Ash, Sammy, Mia, Vee, Karl, Mali, and Chris for their great efforts towards the hotel guests. I have just a few notes that I wish hotel management to consider : 1- Every new guest came here has the same dilemma; searching for the reception desk. Either way, you make it clear in booking or getting a one at the entrance. 2- I wish the room has TVs, similar to your other hotels. 3- It's really annoying that the rooms don't have clothes closet. Hangers can not be q replacement. 4- I have noticed that Quality is degraded over time. I know COVID has it's role over the hotels, but this hotel doesn' deserve this. All the best, and see you soon.

We usually book in the CBD for our leisure trips to Sydney, but were looking for a change. What a great find The Collectionist is! We were shown a choice of pre-booked 'The Tinkerer' range rooms on arrival, and the one we selected was spacious, clean and had great quirky decor. The bathroom was also huge and the personal balcony large. Complete with kitchenette and a King bed this was a perfect place to stay, and the price we scored was crazy ($115). Just a 10 minute stroll from the bustle of Newtown's King St and all the dining and shopping options that brings, the noise level from our street facing room was silent. Being a block from the RPA we might have expected to hear Ambulance sirens in the night, but none... perhaps we got lucky. Check in and out was smooth, we had no trouble with street parking and didn't miss the lack of room TV (plenty of fast wi-fi for free). The bed was firm but not too hard and the pillows comfy. We found a great Japanese restaurant for dinner in under 10 minutes walk through Camperdown, and breakfast the next day was just around the corner. We'll certainly return to The Collectionist for future stays.

Really nice room. Clean and comfortable. We stayed in the black room with the clouds painting. The lighting was a bit dark but other than that great hotel and experience. Provided late check out for free when we asked :) Nice balcony and fast WiFi too.

This was perfect for me. I wanted somewhere relatively close to the airport after flying in from the UK at 7am. A taxi cost $35 to get there. It was easy to find. I was allowed to check in early and arrived at about 830am. I was warmly greeted by Mia and was given a choice of stylish rooms. The bed was very comfortable and it was very quiet. I loved the patio garden! The kitchenette was a plus too. Free beer and wine from the fridge during an evening happy hour was also a nice touch. Great location and only a few minutes pleasant walk to the local park and 10/15 minutes to Newtown. Would highly recommend.

This hotel is basically a fancy looking dorm. Check in was a joke - we were early, so they stored our luggage in a cage in the basement car park with no identifying tags. Anyone could have claimed our bags later. We were promised a call when the room was ready, but this never happened. After 2pm, we wandered the corridors alone with very scant instructions about what we should be looking for, walking over bags of rubbish and dirty laundry to choose a room. It was very strange. The design is ok, but nothing special - definitely (a poor attempt at) style over substance. The photos look good, but in reality the finish is very cheap. We are a same sex couple and on checking in we were asked whether we needed separate beds. I’m sure straight couples aren’t asked this. It was humiliating. Won’t be back.

Some of the reviews of this place were a bit hit and miss so I was somewhat hesitant to stay here, but it seemed to be the best option for the price point in the area. And I was not disappointed!! I stayed in the pink room (I can’t remember it’s exact name), pink isn’t usually to my taste but this room had such a boudoir feel that I couldn’t help but love it!! The hotel is only staffed until 10pm but our flight was delayed and we didn’t arrive until 10:30pm, but this was no problem, I phoned ahead to let them know and the staff member stayed onsite to quickly check us in when we arrived. The rooms are all so different, and you get to select the one that you like in your category, which is a fun feature. My other two colleagues nabbed the first two rooms so I was left with the pink one at the end of the corridor, but like I said, it grew on me and I quite liked the novelty. The bathroom was compact but brand new, with a waterfall shower head. The kitchenette was quite handy, especially if you’re there for a couple of days, and there was lovely tea and a pod machine. And a nice little grocery store up the road if you’re self catering. The bed was comfy, I was there on a Friday and Saturday night but there was no excess noise so I had a wonderful sleep. Everything is pin coded (front door code gets sent to you on the day of arrival, and they set your room code to whatever you like) so no need to carry around a key. They even have a happy hour from 6:30-7:30 every night where you can help yourself to drinks! The location is handy for the RPA (where my conference was), and a short walk to vibrant Newtown with its overwhelming choice of restaurants, bars, and entertainment. Plus a great cafe just on the other side of Parramatta Road (Cafe Deus) which opens early for brekkie and good coffee if that’s what you fancy. My colleagues that chose to stay in the Quality Apartments around the corner were positively green with envy. I would definitely stay here again, and highly recommend it... for the same price as a shabby bland apartment around the corner you have a little novelty and glamour with all the amenities you could need. Five stars.

I spent two weeks in The Collectionist - and I loved every minute! A room with a nice balcony - kitchen (I cooked several meals and could easily have taken all my meals there, had I wanted to...) - happy hour bar (drinks FREE) - nice and helpful staff at all times of day (and night) - free coffee/tea/shampoo/conditioner- you name it! Literally a home away from home!!

The upsides: The location is great, on a quiet side street. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The styling of the rooms was fund, but more fleamarket chic than boutique art hotel (Peppers in Canberra is the real deal). Nice balcony. The downsides: It was incredibly small for the $200+ per night price tag. The water pressure in the shower was woeful. Also it was a good reminder of why good hotels have actual staff available to help you, answer questions and provide local advice. I saw one staff member when I arrived who opened my hotel room door for me the first time, and that was it. It styles itself as a funky art hotel, I think its marketing oversells it.
