Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Conveniently located next to Victoria Park and near bus lines, pretty decent breakfast, inside rooms quiet (although you can hear the AC, which is not changeable, apparently). Most rooms do not appear to have windows, so posted photos may be misleading (although they may have small windowlets, facing a lobby-like area). Wifi speed was very good, not a thing that's guaranteed in Australia.

Really decent location with Victoria park right oppposite, and only a medium-short walk to central station or Haymarket where you can jump on the light rail all the way to circular quay and Sydney Opera House etc. The hotel lobby is clean and fresh and well air conditioned. The head receptionist is lovely! Decently priced. The rooms have a very neutral decor, however in the room I stayed in, the finishing need taking a look at. The walls are thin and you can hear other guests. Breakfast is good, didn’t see any non dairy milk though for those with intolerances/dietary requirements.

We booked this hotel as a last minute stay when all flights out of Sydney were cancelled. Reception lady was very helpful, successfully searching around for a portacot for us at 11pm even though housekeeping had left for the day. Also booked a maxicab back to airport for us early next morning and liased with driver to find rear door for pickup.

We felt a bit concerned pulling up to the place as it looked to be a dodgy area, but were really pleasantly surprised by the bright, new entry hall and the quality of the room - nice size, comfy beds and clean linen. Aircon worked well and shower was great. Only negative was the windows/walls were very thin letting in all the noise from the busy alley behind overnight.

Extremely nasty older woman at the front desk. Please stay away from this hotel. I complained a room I was moved to was giving me side pain, the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. Bear in mind this is my fifth night here.

She literally lied to my face that they have no more rooms when their hotel is barely booked by anyone and she proceeded to insult me that I have issues. What a horrible woman, horrible service and poor quality of rooms. Stay away please.

I will be requesting for my money back after speaking to their head office. This is hands down the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed. the staffs gossip about customers and their attitude is just awful.

ive stayed at multiple meriton hotels and other hotels and they had impeccable customer service and great manners plus stunning rooms.

no manners at this hotel, except one asian lady who seemed friendly enough. the others are just awful. and the rooms are less than basic.

Response from Angus R, Owner at Ryals Hotel - Broadway
Responded 14 Jan 2020
As you can see, I don't usually respond to reviews. I simply try to take the constructive parts (good and bad) and improve the product offering here for our customers. You NEED MEDICATION. You paid $81 a night, had free bacon and eggs every morning and when your constant and ridiculous complaining about nothing didn't land you a free upgrade you took to the internet to attempt to ruin the reputation of a family run business. It's people like you who leach off the system and take advantage of everyones good will that are attempting to ruin this once great country.

The first room we were given had no air circulation and was in front of the toilets at ground level, with a toilet-like smell.
The second room was slightly better but this time had a constant blowing, non controllable and non switchable AC.
Just poor basics really. Otherwise would have been a good experience.

I was a little hesitant at first, but i had a standard room, it was clean and neat with minimal noise midweek. My view was of the back of kmart but between city shifts and dinner out with friends, i only noticed noise once in the morning with trucks. The breakfast was very basic but plentiful and the staff are friendly, helpful and kind.

We were feed with a room without any window. This was not indicated in our reservation.
After explanation, we were given another room with extra charge.
The following day, when we came back at about 08pm, our room was open ( the door widely open)
The receptionist was not able to give us some explanation
For these reasons, we ask hotels.com or ryals a commercial credit in the form of a refund on our credit account.

It was a great stay, 15 mins walk to the central station, very close to amazing restaurants. Bus stops were close by too for an easy commute to any place in Sydney. Room was super clean with free breakfast and very friendly staff.

I booked this hotel for my partner and I for his birthday as a little getaway to explore Glebe. The service was fantastic and staff went out above and beyond to accomodate our needs. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Great value for the price!
