Fast forward to 2017 and that old warehouse has been lovingly converted into a Veriu hotel. I spent 2 nights at Veriu Broadway to be able to attend a conference held at Sydney Uni. I booked a Junior Suite which was on the second floor. From the room layout and pictures of the room on their website, I think I was given a very large version of this room compared to the usual, and was pretty pleased as it was enormous. The room has a lot of concrete/large beams and is warehouse style which might not be to everyones tastes but I quite liked. There was a full size fridge and fully equipped kitchen, and complete laundry facilities. The bed was really comfortable and huge. My only complaints with the room were it was quite dark during the day, and I also had some issues with trying to get Netflix to work on the TV (there was info about how to solve this, so it is clearly a common problem). The room was cleaned/serviced ie bed made, new towels, rubbish removed, however the housekeeping staff neglected to wash cups/dishes that were in the sink. Not a big deal but confusing.
The hotel is located just outside the city and can be easily walked to from Central station. There is the Broadway shopping centre nearby with supermarkets and plenty of food options. In future when staying in Sydney I would consider staying here instead of more expensive CBD hotels.

We stayed in the junior suite and it was perfect. It was cosy, comfortable and very clean. There was a small kitchen and washer/dryer, which made it great value as many hotels at this price do not offer these things. It is located a short walk to Central station and UTS, and close to bus stops and shopping areas. The area itself was very quiet and we were not bothered by any other people staying at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay at Veriu again and would recommend to anyone looking for an affordable, comfortable stay in the city.

The room was cavernous and it comes with a kitchenette, washer and dryer. The downside is there’s cleaning only on every other day and none on weekends. The decor was a mite pedestrian! Its close proximity to the Broadway mall with 2 supermarkets was a big plus. The bus stop to CBD is close by. So if you want a spacious, convenient and very functional room on a quiet street, and don’t mind a bit of traveling time to where all the action is, then this is the place to stay.

I booked the Broadway property through Booking.com months in advance for a combined work trip/family holiday with my husband and 1 year old. Accustomed to the standard payment through the booking.com platform or on arrival at the property, I was surprised to receive a text message a few days before my arrival requesting off-platform payment through a link. I was quite surprised by this so I called them and was informed that this was in fact how they wanted me to pay so they can avoid booking.com fees. Confusingly, the price I would have been required to pay through this link would see me pay $20 more than my original booking.
I requested to pay at the property and was told that I could, and that a special note had been added to my booking. However, two hours before check in, I receive a notification that my booking has been cancelled. I immediately called and was informed that my booking was cancelled because I hadn’t paid via the text link. Oh, and also we’ve IMMEDIATELY rebooked your room and if you want to rebook you have to stay elsewhere.
Anyone who has travelled with a 1 year old will understand that planning an enjoyably holiday requires every single aspect to be considered beforehand, so being shunted to a totally different location was less than ideal. Trying to get any genuine acknowledgment and appropriate compensation for the mistake from the Broadway management was tortuous. Apparently the fact that they were honouring our original booking price was actually already giving us a discount because the same day booking rate is much higher. No matter that the only reason we were rebooking was because of Veriu’s mistake. This was incredibly frustrating.
If you want to stay at this location, be very warned about the complicated booking system and any over the phone promises. I will be avoiding altogether in the future.

The man in the reception was unprofessional, he had airpods in his ears the entire time while he was helping us check in. When we arrived at the hotel the receptionist told us that they had tried to withdraw money from our bank account for the room, without letting us know that this would be done at that time, but the payment did not go through. He proceeden to say that he could have cancelled our reservation within 2 hours after the payment did not go through, without letting us know, like we should be thankful that he did not do that. We stayed at one of the studio aprtments, which on the websites said contained a fully equipped kitchen. However, when we arrived the kitchen did not have an oven, but a microwave instead. When we asked the reception if we could switch to a room with a oven they couldn’t help us. The kitchen did not have any cooking pans and only a very small saucepan. When we asked the reception for a bigger saucepan (regular size) the man in the reception told us that he could give us one, but that it was very dirty. He did not try to find us a clean one, or find someone clean it before giving it to us. He gave us a saucepan that was so dirty that we were not able to clean it, even after leaving it with soap and water for almost a week. When we asked for changed bed linen we were told that this would be done the same day, however when we returned to our room later that day the bed linen had not been changed. We also had to pay for the room without being able to see the room first.

Payment issue: As per hotel policy, we normally take the full payment at least 24 hours prior to arrival. This is guest's own responsibility to make sure the hotel is able to process the payment on the credit card guest provided when made the booking to make sure the room is secured. For the goodwill, we always try to contact the guest when guest credit card is declined and advise the guest to update the credit card details. We believe there was a miscommunication in between and we do apologies it made you feel that way. We will continually provide the internal training to make sure the staff does not make any joke with the guest to make the guest uncomfortable. Full Kitchen: Please kindly be advised all our suites do have a fully kitchen (2 burner stove, oven microwave, fridge, basic cookware). For the oven, we do mentioned subject to availability on our website and always advise the guest to contact us prior to arrival if they prefer to have oven in the room and our team can arrange it. We do apologies that we were unable to provide the room with oven due to last minute request. Regards to the cooking pan, we only have basic cooking set in the room due to the kitchen space. However, we are more than happy to offer more based on the guest request. Housekeeping service: We are sorry to hear you found your linen was not changed when you return to the hotel. Our housekeeping team will normally perform the service in the late afternoon after all the departure rooms are cleaned. We do appreciate our guest can give our team more time to complete their job. We do apologies for the staff who was wearing the headphone on your arrival. The hotel manager has spoken to the staff individually to make sure this unprofessional behavior won't happen again. Regards to your comment: pay for the room without being able to see, we are always welcome our guest to visit the property few days prior to arrival to inspect the room to have a better understanding the room type and what they can expect while staying with us. This was an amazing place to stay! We arrived tired from an early morning flight and with a very upset child The staff were incredible and got us checked in early. Nothing was too much throughout our stay. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and the room was clean. It exceeded our expectations as we were travelling across different states and washing powder etc was provided.

Veriu at Broadway has become a home away from home when travelling to Sydney for work. I enjoy it that much I have also stayed for a non work trip. Timo and the team genuinely want you to have a lovely stay. They make a real effort to make you feel welcome and that you have what you need. The rooms are modern, spacious, with an industrial vibe and I’ve stayed in a few different layouts. The beds are very comfortable and I appreciate the super white bed linen and towels, very fresh. There are great features like a washer and dryer, which is useful particularly when you are travelling. The kitchen is modern with both a gas cook top and electric oven, a family sized fridge, a dish washer, a coffee machine, and I love the green tea. And for the nights you can’t be bothered cooking, you can ring down to reception and they will order your food from offsite and deliver it to your room, with the convenience of it being charge to your room. However, if you want, you can also walk about 5mins to Broadway shopping centre for lots of choice with food and shopping in general. The wifi is fast and I love the Netflix setup on the tv. Thanks heaps for making the stays so easy and enjoyable.

Booked the penthouse suite a few weeks ago. Arrived 8pm last night after travelling 8hrs, reception closed but provided with a code to open the key lock safe. Surprise, surprise, invalid number! Called the emergency contact number several times and spoke to various people who obviously thought we didn't know what we were doing. One of the support staff even offered us an emergency code to open ANY Veriu key safe ending in the letter E. She was astounded that the keyboard had no letters and refused to believe me!! Finally a security guard arrived 1.5 hrs later, tried the code which we had been given, no success then used another code which accessed somebody else's key (obviously another problem in the making later that night). Security guy escorted us to our room but with no keys to operate the lift we were stuck there until the next morning! The security man informed us that this was a common occurrence and it was his second visit that night. When we returned home on our second night, security was back again! The "penthouse apartment" was a major disappointment. The second bedroom (accessed off the main bedroom) is suitable for a toddler at best measuring 2m x 1.7m, furnishings were extremely tired. Hardly a penthouse!! Reception staff clearly not interested in our plight and maintained key safe and entrance were not an issue. This place should advertise as a studio or apartment complex, it has minimal facilities and service. A pity as we stayed here 4years ago and we loved it

The room was clean and the building nice. Cleaning staff are doing their job well.
Issues.... Room cards had to be recalibrated as they were for the wrong room on arrival so very lucky we weren't checking in late and getting cards from lock box.
Balcony door couldn't be locked and no key to make it secure, in case you have curious children.
Microwave had to be lifted over to sit on stove top as the cord didn't reach power point.
Toaster is so old that most of the labelling on the front is missing.
Radio & cd broken.
There's no house keeping but it's inferred that you may receive supplies if needed. At $400 a night I was expecting a little more perfection.
It took over 48 hrs for someone to respond, which is unacceptable, and at the same time telling me the balcony door could be locked. Wrong response!
My son and I over 3 days continually tried to lock it and it simply 'DIDN'T'! If a guest wanted to they could've accessed it from apartments on the same level. JUST SAYING!
It's rather condescending to imply that we were wrong.
Then instead of offering to compensate this trip offered a 30% reduced rate for my next stay. Not good enough and I would've have considered a next time if my issues weren't ignored for two days and only after I sent another email outlying my complete dissatisfaction.
Reading previous disgruntled guests reviews I'm not certain who the Hotel Manager is as there's three different people responding and stating they're the HM.

Room was a bit strange, concrete floor and retrofit bathroom felt cheap. poor drainage made the bathroom slightly flooded and slippery after every shower. Housekeeping either never came or didnt do anything, i.e. no fresh towels, no made bed, no restocking of coffee. Only given 2 coffee pods for a 4 night stay. No bowls or utensils provided so exceedingly difficult to eat breakfast before work each day.

All bowls, dishes and glasses are in the dishwasher on check in. This way we can assure you no one has touched the kitchen tools that you are about to use. Due to Covid19 we have reviewed the housekeeping procedures and having the dishes etc. in the dishwasher is one result of this. We do understand this is not the location where our guests expect this, hence it's explained on your welcome letter. We got in early from the States too, and couldn't get right into our room, but we had a coffee and snack in their wonderful lobby and got in within an hour or so, which was fine. Of course we could have just left our bags, but it was better for us to just relax in their little cafe and recover from the long trip.
There are more places to choose from in the Sydney area.
