The Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour Hotel garners praise for its exceptional service and prime location that offers guests easy access to attractions and public transport, not to mention breathtaking views. While the luxurious rooms and amenities like an extensive breakfast selection are often highlighted, some guests have expressed concerns about service inconsistencies, cleanliness issues, and overcrowding at the pool. Although the atmosphere is frequently described as comfortable and welcoming, the value for money is a point of contention due to steep prices and additional charges.

I am writing a new review to update a previous review written in 2023.
I have stayed at the hotel a number of times in 2024 with the latest stay in January 2025.
If travelling with a friend or family and not as a couple, I would highly recommend this hotel as an option as it offers two double beds which is more difficult to find in a central Sydney hotel then expected. I prefer the location to a central CBD location (in and around Central/Pitt St etc) as it’s just that little bit away from the crowds but still in the thick of the action. The rooms themselves are well appointed, with super comfortable beds and very clean. The hotel offers the option of either daily cleaning or earning loyalty points for not having the room cleaned. As a platinum member, I was lucky enough to have access to Club Millesime which was fantastic. Lovely attentive staff and food in a relaxed atmosphere with a wonderful view.
The hotel is well located a short walk from the ferry and across the road from a light rail stop. As such, you can get anywhere you need to go on public transport easily. The Lyric Theatre is a short walk (5-10 minutes) for those going to the theatre. A added bonus is the free fireworks display right outside the hotel on Saturday nights (need a Darling Harbour view room to enjoy from your room, otherwise view from the pool, executive lounge or outside)
The only negative is the gym. There is no real ventilation and I found that I shortened my workouts as the room was just too stuffy and hot.
I also note that there is construction of the new apartments/shopping centre Harbourside being built right in front of the hotel. This was an issue on my first stay when the construction first started, but has not been a problem since. I’m not sure if the hotel has made some arrangement or what the difference is but haven’t been woken early by noise since the first stay. So I don’t see this as an issue anymore.
One disappointment on my most recent stay was travelling for my birthday (of which the hotel had been advised) and not having any acknowledgement at all - not even by checkin staff or a note left in the room. I must admit that while not wanting a huge fuss, it would have been nice as a platinum member for the hotel to at least acknowledge the day. But this is a slight disappointment and would not detract from a normal stay other than to say that if travelling for a special occasion- don’t expect anything extra or any acknowledgement.
The only other advice for platinum members is that i have never ever received an upgrade at this hotel (over approximately 7 stays the last year), even when available on the day of arrival, despite it supposedly being an advantage of being a platinum member. So take this into consideration when choosing your room type.
Otherwise, I highly recommend the hotel and will defintely be staying there again.

I travel a lot for work and the quality of service and accommodation varies a lot. We stayed at the Sofitel Darling Harbour in July and it was great to once again be able to simply relax and enjoy a hotel in which there is obvious attention to detail and a focus on doing things really well. Our interactions with the staff suggest they take pride in their vocation and enjoy providing attentive service to guests. There was nothing about our stay that suggested a slap-dash or half-assed approach to doing things. From the service, to the food, to the furniture and the rooms, everything was thoughtfully and tastefully done. It was all blissful relaxation.
I guess you get what you pay for, and quality doesn't come cheap. Having said that though, there a ways to enjoy the Sofitel experience a lot more affordable. For the price of an AccorPlus membership you can generally arrange a complimentary night at the Sofitel and also enjoy up to 50% off dinning at the hotel. I say generally because you probably won't a complimentary night on a Friday or Saturday or at other peak periods, but you can often grab one early in the week. AccorPlus members also have access to limited-time promotions offering up to 50% off accommodations at all the Accor brands, including Sofitel. If you do a lot of travel and stay at Accor branded hotels, you can often enjoy significantly discounted rates. Our recent stay at Sofitel Darling Harbour was on a Monday and Tuesday night (generally the lowest price nights) and we were able to access a 46% discount off the rack rate through the AccorPlus membership.
It is important to note there is construction happening adjacent to the hotel. We were aware of this before we booked, but it really made zero difference to our stay. We have had previous great experiences at this hotel and I guess we arrived with the expectation it would again be wonderful. Lo and behold, it was.

Excellent stay in comfort and cozy luxury in the heart of Darling Harbour to change from CBD or Circular Quay. We opted for an angle room in vintage club and it was a pure happiness. A fantastic view from the 32nd floor, and access to the lounges of the vintage club on the 35th floor. Admittedly this has a hit, but what a fantastic view from breakfast (delicious), to have a snack (pastry and tea time at 3pm) or chic aperitif at the end of the afternoon (champagne, cocktails, buffet and unlimited fours); we loved the concept, the privileged and friendly welcome, the comfort and the view of the city.
The room is spacious and all glazed from the floor! Even from the bathtub or toilet. The evening service during dinner prepared the room, the bed, the chamomile, close the curtains for the night (too bad when you arrive in the day the check in the curtains are already closed...it would have had a breathtaking effect to enter the room with view right away)
Very easy access from the airport by taxi and not excessive, as on foot from all Darling Harbour and the city, by ferry too, too great.
Check in quiet at the club at the 35th with 🥂 to wait.
We could not access the pool, and its snack bar, too many people, noisy children.
This side of Darling Harbour is completely under construction, but no noise in the rooms.
In short, a great stay!

Terrible customer service at Sofitel Darling Harbour...it's really gone downhill with this crew (it's my fourth stay there over the past 2 years). I asked to be notified when my room was available as I'd come off a 10 hour flight and they constantly spammed me on watsapp about their overpriced champagne bar on L35 but not one word about my room availability until 3:12 pm when they asked if I'd settled into my room yet...without letting me know it'd become available at all! Staff seemed more incentivized to sell the champagne bar than providing the room paid for. No mention of the welcome drink, had to chase two separate staff to get me one as part of their apparently useless loyalty program. Asking for one felt a bit like asking for a favor from these lazy, aloof, sour-faced staff...almost like I farted in front of them when mentioning the drink. They need to whip these front office reception guys to within an inch of their lives...and continue the beatings until staff morale improves LOL. Jaden...I'm looking at you. Still waiting for that apology letter.

Got the harbour room this time. Views were spectacular if you didn't mind the construction & cranes going full tilt in front. Drainage in the sink was horrible. Pretty much saw remnants of breakfast come up the sink hole every time I was brushing my teeth. Yum!

Sofitel's housekeeping arrangements are dam inefficient. They haven't really though through all this ESG stuff properly...single use toothpaste with a toothbrush in a dental kit? Hello - what a waste! Had to throw away the wooden toothbrush every day when all I needed was some more toothpaste. Absolute geniuses LOL. Really stupid that you need to call them every day for the same stuff. They've even locked down the shampoo so it's really hard to gracefully squeeze any out and you end up wasting so much because you're constantly smashing the stupid nozzle again & again. This is not a slight on the housekeeping staff like Grace who were wonderful and thoroughly rigorous.

This 12 day stay at Sofitel Darling Harbour was a huge disappointment. They've really wasted a great location, modern property with sub-standard housekeeping arrangements & surly front office staff who are shockingly inept.

I recently spent 7 nights at the Sofitel Darling Harbour for a business trip. The first plus was that it was literally 1 minute away from the International Convention Center (ICC) where my conference was held so it made for very easy commuting to and from the various sessions etc. It also about 2 minutes away from the light rail (Convention stop) so it is very easy to travel to various parts of the city (The Rocks, Circular Quay, QVB etc) very cheaply. The hotel itself is beautifully and tastefully decorated ... elegance from the moment you arrive in the lobby. The rooms are large and comfortable and I very much appreciated that it is an eco-friendly property. I had breakfast included as part of my room rate and really enjoyed the wide range of buffet items (especially the freshly baked croissants! ;-) :-) ). I am not certain if my room rate was a special conference rate, but I found it was excellent value for money (particularly compared to what I would normally pay for a 5 star hotel such as this). The room itself was very comfortable and I really felt at home and at ease for my entire stay. The staff also provided excellent service with a pleasant demeanour and warm smile. Overall it was an amazing stay and I would highly recommend it to anyone even if they weren't travelling on business as I was.

I stayed 8 nights in this iconic hotel in the Sydney business centre as part of a business trip.
The hotel is ideally located and the rooms are relatively clean.
For the rest, there are too many misses / problems to claim 5 stars or represent French luxury (saying “hello” in French in the morning is certainly nice but not everything):
-Check in: I arrive on Sunday morning at 8am after a trip of more than 30h and I am told that my room is not ready...except that I had booked and paid the night before to be quiet on this side. Finally, a manager finds a solution but the first impression is spoiled. I then ask if the hotel does currency exchange. They say yes. I ask to change 200€ and they do everything to convince me not to make the exchange at the hotel (the rate is not good, blah...); in fact, the cash register was closed and it drunk them... in short... 2nd intervention of the manager.
- Bedroom: I arrive in the suite with “magnificent view of Darling Harbour” that I had booked. All the opaque curtains being closed, I find it a shame not to have a Waouh Effect but I think the cover service had prepared the room for the previous night.... Except that i/ the hotel does not do a roof service (although a basic in the luxury hotel), ii/ the instruction is given to the HK to systematically close the blackout curtains due to the sun and the huge construction right in front (no less than 5 cranes within 20m of my window). But then why market rooms with a view (+50% vs standard price) if for many reasons you can not enjoy the view?!
Finally, on the room, 2 bottles of water (carbonated...) on arrival, never replaced (weird in 5 stars)
- Breakfast: bad experience again... lots of people and far too slow service. On 6 Pdj taken, I left twice before having the expression ordered 20ln before.... Inadmissible in a hotel where many business guests cannot stay 1 hour at the Pdj...
- laundry: I benefited from 3x laundry service. On the last day, I call 45 minutes after the maximum return time provided and I am told that the supplier is late (except that I have nothing to wear for the last evening...). It finally happens at 20:15 and the shirts / t-shirt on hangers (I asked folded because having a broken hand it was easier ..). I pick up a shirt for the evening and return the rest for someone to fold. Rather than doing it quickly internally, they send it back to their external supplier who will finally bring them back the next morning just before my Check out and charging me 5AUD/piece for folding... they were born before the shame....
In short, I pass over the unheated pool with views of the cranes and related noise..
All this to say that as it is, this hotel is far from the expected standards. I will spend my turn during my next stay

Stayed here for a week at the end of a 6-week trip touring. Was hoping for a bit of 'luxury' and wasn't disappointed. Paid for an upgrade the day before check-in to a junior suite which proved good value - the additional space, plus access to the Millesime Lounge (breakfast, afternoon tea and early evening drinks) was worth the additional cost in our view. Location is great, with so much within easy walking distance - there is some construction work going on immediately next to the hotel but from our high room (33F) this wasn't a problem. Staff throughout are excellent - concierge/door, reception, lounge - all so good (special shout-outs to Vincent and Grace in the lounge though !). The room was as expected - fabulous view, comfy bed and sofa, plenty of room, huge bathroom etc etc. Liked the gym - decent size and well-equipped. With so many restaurants within an easy walk we didn't eat in the hotel other than breakfast/snacks in the lounge. Valet parking is very efficient and whilst a little expensive the hassle of trying to park in the (also expensive) nearby multi-storey made this worthwhile too. Great stay overall and a nice end to the trip

Right from the start arriving by car the staff were so wonderful big smiles and a bonjour greeting. Me and my friend checked in and rooms were not ready we were early but we went up to pool and omg the view alone was worth every dollar the staff went out of their way to make my mate a cocktail she wanted and the snack food in pool area was hot and yummy. When we got to room it was so lovely and clean and we both felt at home and seriously had to drag ourselves away from view the chair right near windows get touch. I ordered room service after concert at around 12pm and it was delivered to room with other smiling face and it was so yummy and fresh 😋 the bed was so nice and after great sleep we woke up to the beautiful sunset and the really great shower head and sadly had to pack. Checkout was great if a little slowly only one person on desk but getting the car was good totally worth the 89 bucks so I didn't have to worry about parking it lol. Overall it was so so great and I totally am going back. Having cabs right out the front such a godsend and lightrail just across the road. PERFECT GIRLS TRIP 👧 💕

A bit disappointed with our experience at the Sofitel at Darling Harbour. For one, we were not advised that there was on going construction in front of the hotel, right below our room, and it was quite noisy for the first day. Secondly, the mini bar in our room was checked by an employee half an hour after we had checked in, which seemed rather odd. We returned back home to find that the hotel had charged with use of two items from the mini bar which we had not utilized. We have still to receive a response from the hotel in this regard, and not even an acknowledgement of having received our complaint. So now we are having had to deal with this issue through our credit card company. On a positive note the location is great and very convenient, loved the rooms which were very well maintained and beds are comfortable, though we were unable to regulate the temperature, to cool the room, so found it rather warm and uncomfortable at night as they only provide a comforter and no cover sheet.

Unfortunately multiple things had gone wrong with our stay. This hotel is in a great location and has the potential to be a 5 star hotel. It is not. We waited over an hour on the lobby lounges for our room, check in is at 3pm. My partner got up twice to ask what was going on, they’re finishing up cleaning the concierge desk had informed. Fed up further my partner got up again after waiting and was only told at that point at the reception desk that our room was having maintenance done on the sink as something was going on with it. Informed if not updated or finished in 10 minutes the manager will get us a different room. The manager came over (can’t recall his name) got us a new room, finally our key cards and also offered complimentary breakfast the next morning and a $50 credit. The gesture was lovely, but its very obvious communication is poor across the floor. If the initial concierge man had told us the real reason of the delay my partner wouldn’t have had to get up 2 more times to wait to request another room. The corner darling harbour view room itself is incredible, very well designed and great selection of amenities. Room service was ordered due to needing to be somewhere by 6:15. When I had called at 5:00 the first thing I had asked was how long would it take, 30-40 minutes I was told, so I continued to order. My partner again had to call at 5:55 and ask where the order was, it arrived a minute later as it was on its way whilst they were on the phone. We couldn’t finish all the food given the time, this was also disappointing. We did not use the complimentary breakfast voucher as we already had plans. Check out was also messy. Greeted somewhat by a man the next morning standing next to an express check out box but no mention of why he is doing what he is doing and what exactly we had to do. He grabbed the key cards and I had asked if we still go up to the desk though? As normally they fix up the bill (with any mini bar etc) his response was “if you want” but he had already chucked our key cards in that box. I said well yes because we had a few things go wrong yesterday so I am wanting to check the bill, which he just hand gestured to go over. This was a strange encounter. Of course, we fixed everything up, double checked the bills etc then went out to wait for our car from valet. I noticed when outside this was not written on the bill so again, partner back inside and it was quite right, valet parking had been forgotten. Human error sure, but I cannot use that excuse for every other thing that had and did go wrong. I’ve stayed at all other Sydney 5 star hotels, this cannot be compared. Like I said the view is lovely. But that cannot simply be the only reason to justify pricing of $700+ per night.
