Great basic budget accommodation. Direct access to Park Beach. Excellent food at Hoey Moey Bistro. Rooms very clean, can be noisy with guests passing by your front door but everyone was very friendly. Will definitely stay again.

I stayed there for a week in the backpacker accomodation site. Location is pretty good, positioned next to the beach on the Ocean Drive. Groceries are only ten minutes walking distance. Comfy lounge room and lovely outside dining area. For Wifi they still use limited daily vouchers , a system which is at the same time old fashioned and very inconvenient. Quality and speed are ok anyway.
On terms of the help they provide for work search I did not see much proactivity and good will there. the manager just suggests to apply for farm work with the two main companies in the area (no big news!) and to look for hospitality jobs around (such a help!). Poor communication with the local employers, no plus in this sense. And only at the end of my stay I discovered that there is a facebook group on which they seldom post job ads but nobody tells you anything about that at the desk. Other than that a nice stay

I stayed at The Hoey Moey backpackers for a week. I was in a dorm with 2 others and although basic was quite clean and acceptable. The staff however were very rude and unhelpful to guests.

I stayed a second week and paid in full and upfront. However an hour after paying I had to leave Coffs Harbour due to an unforeseen family incident. I immediately went to reception and asked if I could receive any small compensation for my week’s rent (as a backpacker money is scarce and any dollar is helpful.)
Not only did the manager say no to my request to receive a small amount of money back (even though it was merely an hour after I paid) he was also blatantly rude and was not interested in negotiating at all.

With the state borders now open and travellers able to move freely I am quite confident that my bed will be easily filled however the staff would not consider any refund or compensation.
I would not recommend The Hoey Moey.

Accommodation was booked for a group in two rooms.
Advertised as backpacker accommodation, my expectations weren't very high. This place didn't even remotely approach my expectations.
The band playing the hotel that night started their sound check just as I entered the room.
As the sides of the hotel building are open, I knew we weren't going to sleep that night and we had an early start the next morning.
The hotel smoking area is also adjacent to our rooms and the place reeks of cigarette smoke. Ashtrays are provided on the crappy wooden seats outside every room and it seemed that every guest spent their entire waking hours puffing away outside the rooms.
Probably because there is nowhere to sit inside, no aircon and a feeble fan mounted above one of the double bunks in such a way that it is ineffective in providing any relief.
The rooms and buildings are in a terrible state of disrepair. The windows haven't been cleaned in years, the flyscreens were hanging off, the whole building is decrepit.
I went to the communal kitchen to find it locked. It remained that way for the entire weekend.
Stay at your peril!

In january 2021 my friend and i spent a night at the Hoey Moey, expecting a nice time. Upon entering the pub to pick up our keys we were asked 3 times to sign into the pub (covid styles) after having to circumnavigate the entire premise to locate the only available entry point. After what can only be described as a complete heckle parade, we were finally able to access our room. Of course, our allocated parking space was taken, so we had to park elsewhere and walk in the rain like dogs. As we entered the room we were thoroughly perturbed and dissapointed, confused as to how our $147 was reflected. No sink in the bathroom. No way of shutting the windows, which we wouldnt have minded if it were not for the chain smokers punching death sticks right outside and the loud karaoke style music from the adjacent rooms playing until late into the evening. We were rudely awoken first thing in the morning by a fellow guest eliciting an almighty golly right outside our window, causing us both alarm and disgust. Also the driveway was too steep and i scraped my new car getting in and out of the parking area. Location was ok, everything else sucked. Thanks Hoey Moey, see ya never.

This is one of the unaccomadating venues I’ve ever been too. We booked for 100 people with all the details of who took the booking etc. But we have no one with service skills, kids with no meals but they are willing to take your money then forget your order. You stand at the bar for ages to be told we have no clean glasses or jugs. I couldn’t give 2 hoots about me but when kids can’t get something to eat. What a dive and no apologies from staff. Staff gave me attitude looked at me like me and family were nothing. I don’t like using the racial card but it felt like it.

Don’t stay here, it cost me $270 for one night in what I call a concrete box with no air conditioning, no bathroom sink no bedside table. I’ve stayed in a few budget accommodation but nothing compares to this, yes it was clean but it was old, you can hear everything from the rooms next door. Mattress was thin and only one pillow. There is a fan but it’s that old it looked like it was going to fall off. Everything was old and worn. They at least need more block out curtains to stop the light coming in to the room. Front desk gentleman was abrupt and seemed like he didn’t care. The pub however probably saves this place. Do yourself a favour grab a swag and sleep on the beach!

Stayed here for almost 2 months. Rooms have their own bathroom so only shared with the people in the room, great environment, big kitchen and dining room, and just a few steps from the beach! Rooms are a bit too small and there’s still some problems with the wifi, but it’s the only downfall (and they’re already working on it). Frank is really nice and helpful, and (fun fact) they also offer pick up and drop off to the train and bus station!
Also, if you’re staying on weekends, it’s quite noisy because rooms are next to the bar, so bring earplugs!

We stayed for a week as our van had broken down. Frank and all of his staff were amazing - so helpful and accommodating even when we weren’t sure how long we were going to be staying. Clean, friendly & great amenities. The menu in the restaurant is huge, varied and great value. The bar is lots of fun and always has some live music or other event on. Always busy with atmosphere. Our room was quiet and private and clean. Great shower and small kitchenette. Right on the beach and only a 30 minute walk to the jetty area of Coffs Harbour with cafes bars and restaurants. We are so grateful and would definitely recommend a stay here!
