Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The staff-less checkin didn't work for us. We were not aware when booking, that there was no reception desk and no reception staff. As we were travelling, the stream of text messages, which were not immediately received, was confusing, and on arrival we couldn't even find the room. Nor could the only human we could find - the bar attendant, despite dragging our cases up and down several flights of stairs and along a couple of corridors. Eventually a management person arrived and sorted it out - their direction signs were incorrect (who would have guessed??). Although the room was fine, we will NOT be returning.

Stay clear of this place, it's a rip off. The "manager" is rude, has no compassion or empathy, laughed at me and then said she didn't, that she was just trying to explain to me in a way that I would understand, and then she tried to brush it off. It was very frustrating trying to explain anything to the "manager" after that.

I booked this hotel for my elderly grandparents. The service was beyond terrible. There is no staff on site and you need to rely on a pin number that they give you. Turns out our pin number didnt work and I had o find them another hotel. When contacted, the staff and particularly the manager of the hotel were rude and accused us of lying. They stated the room was entered at 1730 (impossible as my grandparents were with me enjoying dinner), they also stated that house keeping said the room was used. I was forced to book another room at another hotel. The incredibly rude manager I spoke to in person refused to hear my side of the story and said that my grand parents were the only ones to get the pin, which is clearly not true. After multiple promises to call me back, they never did. Absolutely pathetic. They have essentially taken advantage of elderly pensioners. Stay well clear.

Not fussed with on line check in, but was sorted at the bar when we arrived. Very tidy functional rooms with good shower. Could do with addition of freezer section in fridge and small microwave. Good value. Handy location with Coles & speciality shops across the road. Pub, bistro, restaurant, coffee shop and bottle shop on site. Happy hour, GREAT staff and good bistro food.

My wife and I stayed here last night after a surgical procedure in a nearby hospital. The room was fabulous, recently renovated, quiet, well equipped and comfortable. The restaurant was exceptionally good with even better food. BUT, in an effort to save money by not paying for reception staff, the booking, check-in and check-out process is ***** awful. Its all done in cyber space and they assume that everybody has a late model smart phone to complete it. I have used this process before with other hotels, but The Statesmans process is so full of glitches and bugs that it was impossible to finish some of the steps, or even get started on one occasion. As a result of this, we probably wont stay here again, but with somebody on the desk, Statesman, we definitely will stay again. Should you like a good steak, this is a great place.

Check in process, was online, no reception staff. Get sent a text, confirm the reservation, click the link, download an app, register on the app, verify your email, back to the app, hope it's all gone through. Finally get the code to your room. Plus they put a hold on the holding deposit and on the full cost of your room. The holding deposit is released but in the meantime, more than should be is held from your account. So now I have yet another app on my phone that I use once (and have since deleted) and yet another company has my details that I didn't get any say in as I didn't found about this until I arrived. If I knew I would have stayed somewhere else. Food available in the restaurant, but no in room service and no breakfast options. Takeaway food available from the restaurant but no cutlery available. So if you don't want to eat in the restaurant, you take a cardboard container back to your room. Seriously? Also, had a room with an adjoining door and I could not only hear their television, but I could hear and understand the occupants talking and they weren't loud. Shower ran out of hot water too. Had stayed there before a few years ago but it's gone downhill since then. Don't think I'd bother again.

Every aspect of my stay was very good, and as expected for a recently refurbished lower cost hotel, except for problems stemming from the code room access system. I had no trouble with the code system myself, however at 2.30am I was woken by a loud telephone call between two guests and a hotel representative on speaker phone which kept me awake for some time as they tried to gain access to their room. A number of other loud conversations continued to keep me awake as other guests used their balconies and stairs into the small hours of the morning. The secure parking area was fenced off but limited parking was available in the hotel grounds.

If you like a digital environment then this is for you!!! No reception, no keys to the door, no human contact, pretty much nothing just a person out there in the cyber that sends confirmation for the booking, a code for the door which requires a phone to access. Pretty ordinary and connected to the hotel. Meals are a bit dear for a pub....Husband had steak $35 and I had gnocchi (which is no longer on the Menu)...Steak was good and was presented on a bed of mushrooms with jus but came with no salad as that was another $10. Gnocchi was definitely not what i expected...burnt and almost like it had been put in sandwich maker and flattened...not nice...The chips were amazing...perhaps I should of stuck to a bowl of chips....

Overall not value for money in my view at $180 per night thru Statesman site. Do look for cheaper rates. Location is very convenient. Not sure what part of the rooms were renovated. Freshish paint? but long brown stain on the bedroom wall, and bubbles on ceiling paint of bathroom. Had to sanitised bathroom door handles, etc. on arrival given hand basin is in bedroom area not bathroom/toilet area. Don't expect a hair drier, shower cap, cotton buds etc. Shower area had 'pink' and brown mold in grout and black bits in corners. Bottom of shower door was moldy/dirty, with mold on door seal. Shower was not cleaned throughout the stay. Room was not vacuumed , white threads etc. still by bed. During the 7 night stay, the room was not serviced except for towel, toilet paper replacement. Ben top sheet was changed once and bed made only once. I saw nothing to advise of this on booking. There was no info on this in the room either that I could see. No 'do not disturb' sign available according to staff, nor lock on the door or chain, so had to make a call on the mornings I was working in room. Will stay in Woden area next time.

Contact free digital check in was a nightmare! I’m pretty tech savvy, but couldn’t work it out…. 40 minutes later and two phone calls to phone hotel number! That’s just the beginning! No coffee, tea, sugar… fridge was at minimum setting, hole in roof, no compendium or evacuation procedures. Queen sheets on a king bed, dodgy light fittings, no more individual toiletries, have to walk around entire building to get back to your room (even though there’s no obvious refurb going on). I’ve been staying here for 15 years (on and off). But this has to be the worse experience ever…. :(
