Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Statesman was chosen because of its convenient location, and we were mostly very pleased with this choice.
We liked the secure parking, walking distance to Curtin shops, and just a short drive to where we needed to be each day. The room was clean, the bed clean and comfortable, the toiletries very nice. We had a good selection of teas and coffees, with a couple of nice shortbread biscuits. The milk was a small bottle of FRESH milk!!
On the down side, however, there was nowhere to hang the hand-towel in the bathroom and when someone in either the adjoining room or the one above (not sure which) ran their shower early one morning, the noise was most alarming.

I visited Canberra for a working holiday and stayed at the Statesman hotel. The room
I had was clean and comfortable. Staff clean the rooms daily and are super friendly. Towels were changed daily. Although the room I had didn’t have a kitchen, they provided a microwave and dish washing essentials when requested. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

Check in process, was online, no reception staff. Get sent a text, confirm the reservation, click the link, download an app, register on the app, verify your email, back to the app, hope it's all gone through. Finally get the code to your room. Plus they put a hold on the holding deposit and on the full cost of your room. The holding deposit is released but in the meantime, more than should be is held from your account.

So now I have yet another app on my phone that I use once (and have since deleted) and yet another company has my details that I didn't get any say in as I didn't found about this until I arrived. If I knew I would have stayed somewhere else.

Food available in the restaurant, but no in room service and no breakfast options. Takeaway food available from the restaurant but no cutlery available. So if you don't want to eat in the restaurant, you take a cardboard container back to your room. Seriously?

Also, had a room with an adjoining door and I could not only hear their television, but I could hear and understand the occupants talking and they weren't loud.
Shower ran out of hot water too.

Had stayed there before a few years ago but it's gone downhill since then. Don't think I'd bother again.

We have previously stayed here, very comfortable, friendly and helpful staff and good value.

This week, as we aren't allowed to travel interstate due to Covid-19, we tried to cancel or postpone our booking made via Agoda. Agoda was VERY unhelpful - no cancellation, no refund.

On contacting the hotel again, they were very helpful and have given us a credit to be used later in the year.
Thank you Statesman Hotel, very much appreciated.

Overall not value for money in my view at $180 per night thru Statesman site. Do look for cheaper rates. Location is very convenient. Not sure what part of the rooms were renovated. Freshish paint? but long brown stain on the bedroom wall, and bubbles on ceiling paint of bathroom. Had to sanitised bathroom door handles, etc. on arrival given hand basin is in bedroom area not bathroom/toilet area. Don't expect a hair drier, shower cap, cotton buds etc. Shower area had 'pink' and brown mold in grout and black bits in corners. Bottom of shower door was moldy/dirty, with mold on door seal. Shower was not cleaned throughout the stay. Room was not vacuumed , white threads etc. still by bed. During the 7 night stay, the room was not serviced except for towel, toilet paper replacement. Ben top sheet was changed once and bed made only once. I saw nothing to advise of this on booking. There was no info on this in the room either that I could see. No 'do not disturb' sign available according to staff, nor lock on the door or chain, so had to make a call on the mornings I was working in room. Will stay in Woden area next time.

I booked this hotel for my elderly grandparents. The service was beyond terrible. There is no staff on site and you need to rely on a pin number that they give you. Turns out our pin number didnt work and I had o find them another hotel. When contacted, the staff and particularly the manager of the hotel were rude and accused us of lying. They stated the room was entered at 1730 (impossible as my grandparents were with me enjoying dinner), they also stated that house keeping said the room was used. I was forced to book another room at another hotel. The incredibly rude manager I spoke to in person refused to hear my side of the story and said that my grand parents were the only ones to get the pin, which is clearly not true.

After multiple promises to call me back, they never did. Absolutely pathetic.

They have essentially taken advantage of elderly pensioners.

Stay well clear.

The Statesman offers standard motel facilities at a very reasonable rate. It is well located being an easy drive to Woden, Civic and the Parliamentary triangle. The major drawback is the WiFi which is very poor and virtually unusable in the evenings. So if good internet access is important for you then do not stay here. Otherwise the Statesman is quiet, clean and comfortable and represents excellent value for money.

This was our second stay at this location. We found it so easy to move around Canberra here. The Hotel is located in a small commercial area with most facilities that you may require. Hotel has a very good Restaurant, public bar and bottle shop. Staff in the motel and hotel were very good and helpful when need be. Secure parking available for your car at no extra cost. Room was clean and everything works. Would be nice to have more power points access for technology charging. All in all great location at a reasonable price.

Good shower, comfortable bed and a great TV all come together to make the Satesman Hotel a comfortable abnd economical place to stay. Couple with a normal suburban hotels facilities like bars, bistros and pokies this place should appeal to the everyday traveller.

Very happy with our ground floor room (no lift in the building) free undercover locked parking. All good thank you

The staff could not have been more helpfull as my wife & I were coming and going from day to day for 3 weeks and were not aware of when we would need accomodation from day to day, the same applying to our son in law and grankids.
The location was perfect for the hospital and shops and Canberra town centre. The price was very reasonable for Canberra. The rooms were well set up and spotless. We have rellies in Canberra and will definitely be using this facility again. Thanks once again to the marvellous staff for all their help.
