The property is conveniently located to the township of Dickson and about a 5 - 10 minute drive to the city. It has free parking which was one of the main draw cards for us. It has a nice indoor pool which my 10 yo daughter enjoyed and a BBQ area which we did not use but looked OK. The room we stayed in was ample for us (2 adults one child) but it was musty smelling and the carpets needed a good clean as did the air vent in the bathroom. The bathroom was small but contained shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and soap which was convenient. We found the beds hard but realise others may find that a good thing. The property itself is surrounded by dilapidated graffitied buildings and the “parklands” are fields across the road. It was not a nice area and we were approached at the shops by some “locals” who were begging for change. The two restaurants we went to in Dickson were great, Two sisters Thai and The Ducks Nuts. Lastly we were woken early Sunday morning by a couple yelling and swearing at each other and slamming doors. Im not sure if these were nightly customers or one of the weekly or monthly customers but it was disturbing on our short break away to have to deal with this.

Response from CentralAptGroup, Guest Relations Manager at Canberra Parklands Central
Responded 4 Feb 2020
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We usually get great reviews about the location as it is near the city and very peaceful and quiet and away from the traffic of Northborne Avenue. The Parklands are lovely sporting fields and great for a morning walk or jog. We have no control over some person asking you for money outside the Woolworths shopping centre at Dickson. It can happen anywhere.I apologise for the noisy overnight guests. If you had rung our in house manager she would have hushed them immediately. It is always difficult to find a perfect bed. Some like hard beds and some like soft beds. We are in the process of recarpetting our hotel. We hope you choose to stay with us again

Stayed here for one night. The room was spacious and comfortable.
It had all the things you would expect in a room - microwave, bar fridge etc.
No issues with shower or air con heating.
Undercover parking in the basement.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
We were disappointed to not have the chance to use the indoor pool as it was only open during reception hours (due to COVID)
Price was reasonable, would recommend and stay here again.

Never been to Canberra before, so was pleasantly surprised to find the motel is conveniently located 10-15 minutes from everywhere we went. Check in was easy. The secure underground car park was a bonus. The kids loved using the indoor heated pool and gym facilities. The rooms definitely need updating. The mattress had some rogue springs which made sleep a bit uncomfortable. The bathroom was dirty and had some mould. The carpet was quite stained and needed replacing. Having said that, it was quite acceptable as budget accommodation and met our expectations for the price.

A very dodgy hotel that advertises "pay at property" option for a higher price, then tries to charge you on the day of booking. Then, simply cancels the booking without contacting the customer or explaining the reason. I can't believe that service like this exists in Canberra.

Our stay started out so well. Recommended by previously happy customers, we looked forward to a comfortable, relaxed stay.
Room spacious and inviting but … carpet not vacuumed, spiders’ webs on insides of windows, no hand towel or bath mat. Toilet roll on its last square of paper. Grounds needing attention, no pool towels on rack and an empty basket next to it so hadn’t been replenished for some time. Signs in gym asked for equipment to be wiped down after use. With what?
Underground carpark has an abandoned car gathering copious dust. Almost expected a skeleton to be at driver’s seat perhaps waiting for the continental breakfast? (Had to ask twice.)
Love lots of light at night? Curtains/blinds don’t stop the exterior brightness.
Appreciate every business has its down days but from reading reviews this is not the exception. No response to email received from owner/manager. Was our stay part of Canberra Central Parklands’ audition for a makeover program?

We have never experienced accommodation like this. Our apartment we were told had just been cleaned but was filthy on inspection. The fridge hadn’t been cleaned/the dishwasher had scraps of food in the bottom/the oven had baked on food in the tray which was full of fat . We complained at the office and they said they would send someone to give the kitchen a good clean and when they did arrive all they did was spend 2 minutes to wipe out the oven. The place had cockroaches running around and one of our Doonas had what looked like blood or chocolate all over it - we left it on the floor for housekeeping and it took them several days before they removed it. Office staff indifferent to everything- lift was filthy and not vacuumed for the 10 days we were there. Way overpriced and very disappointing.

Very run down and in need of an upgrade. We stayed in the 3 bedroom apartment, it was quite spacious but very tired. The beds were clean and comfortable but the bathroom was very ordinary with a tiny shower, spa bath that didn’t work and for three bedrooms one bathroom is not enough! The dishwasher was falling apart and shelves in the kitchen cupboards broken, not enough cutlery and plates. The heated pool was nice but the gym was closed for maintenance. Overall would not recommend!

Pros: The location was good, close to Dixon shops and restaurants. The towels and sheets were good quality. The fridge was of good size and it was very handy to have a washing machine. The swimming pool was ok furniture was a bit dated.
Cons: We were there for six nights. On arrival into the bedroom the first thing we saw was a bad brown stain on the carpet. Everywhere was very dusty. The cleaning was hit and miss we had to ask for the room to be vacuumed and it was only done once. The cleaners came and gave us towels when we asked and tea and coffee but that was all that was done in the six days we were there. The room had been recently painted and the old, dirty carpet should have been pulled up but was not. Also the sofa was old and dirty. There were no covers on the light switches and power points, my husband found the covers in the bathroom and went around placing all that we used. For over $200 per night we expected more.

The room was very dirty - the carpet as sticky as a nightclub, and the shower bay just gross. Mould adorned the fridge seal, I didn't bother opening the microwave (which completed the entire "kitchenette"). During my stay the driveway was being repainted resulting in entrances to the rooms being blocked without warning, and trip hazards (power cords and tools) were strewn about without any signage or safety protocols. Half way through my stay the fridge defrosted itself resulting in waking up to a water puddle. A bag of food was left outside my room (including perishables) which I did not order and was not picked up 24 hours later. I didn't see any staff member (other than the contracted driveway painters) at all until I checked out - reception times are much shorter than listed online or in rooms. I would do anything, including cancelling my trip, rather than stay here again.

Our room was nothing like advertised on their web page. On arrival from a long trip we open our room door and the first thing we noticed was the smell of a room being closed for a long time smelling of mould. On inspecting our room the window were dirty, mould on all window ceils and blinds. We had to move one lounge and it had crumbs and biscuits under it, we asked reception had the room been cleaned, and was told that they doing not vacuum under lounges also the lounges showed a lot of wear and dirty. After the first hour we found we could not stay in this room due to the strong smell of mould. We did ask for another room but there was none available so we had no choice but to leave and find another motel.
