Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Nestled close to Canberra's tram system, Pavilion On Northbourne is celebrated for its prime location, with guests often mentioning the ease of access to the city and nearby dining venues. The hotel's cleanliness receives consistent accolades, with particular emphasis on well-maintained rooms and facilities. While the rooms are described as clean and cozy, some guests suggest that they might benefit from a modern update.
The attractive atrium and the value offered are frequently highlighted, though the hotel's ambiance and amenities receive mixed reviews due to aging décor and occasional maintenance issues. Friendly and professional service adds to the experience, although there have been isolated mentions of service delays. Overall, the hotel is considered to provide good value for its offerings.

Detailed Reviews
The staff at Pavilion couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful in letting us change rooms and responding to requests. But this didn’t quite make up for the fact that this hotel is in need of some serious TLC. We noticed at reception a tourist excellence award from Trip Adviser from 2012, which is hardly current.
On the plus side:
The huge foyer area was pleasant and welcoming.
The king bed was very comfortable which is the main thing, quality linen.
Bathroom towels were plentiful and soft and the shower over the bath had a non-slip surface and a useful help rail to get in and out.
What needs attention:
The desk and table in both rooms we had were chipped, and the curtains somewhat old and worn. The darkish grey paint also did nothing to raise the energy of what was already a dark room (215) with a tree outside.
No plugs were provided for the basin and the bath, though these were supplied on request
The restaurant staff were great, but the chicken schnitzel we ordered was really disappointing and poor value at $35.
We would also have appreciated a microwave being available, if not as standard on request, as in many hotels. Overall a disappointing experience we would not repeat.

Responded 2 Mar 2023
Dear Wendy, Thanks for your feedback on your stay. We take all feedback seriously, both good and bad. I will be passing on your comments to our maintenance team about the furniture in the room. We are always doing upgrades to our room and I am confident they will be looking into correcting the items you listed as not being up to speed. I will also pass on your comments to our food and beverage team about your meal. If you do decide to stay with us again, and we hope you do, I would suggest booking one of our suites or apartments that do have cooking facilities in the room. I am confident that one of these rooms would better suit your needs. Kind Regards Dan Brophy Rooms Division Manager

The Pavllion on Northbourne was a great location with the tram directly out front. During floriade and school holidays the public transport is free for a month which is great since the cost of flying to Canberra is ridiculously expensive. This hotel is central to the city centre, floriade, war memorial and many other attractions. The beds were like sleeping on clouds, I had a great nights sleep and the buffet breakfast was a great way to start the day. I’d stay here again 🙂

Enjoyed our stay at the Pavillion. Booked online for a family of four, and this was one of the cheaper options. Rooms were quite small but clean and functional. Beds were comfortable and even though the rooms were on the ground floor adjacent to the bar and restaurant, nothing could be heard in the rooms. Service at the bar, restaurant, and at reception was friendly and professional. We declined having our room serviced during our stay and were rewarded with a 10 dollar credit each time. Will definitely stay here again.

Pavilion on Northbourne Canberra is a great central location across from the tram station for a quick trip to central Canberra.
I had a one bedroom suite. Very large, clean and comfortable. It had microwave, bar fridge, tea and coffee facilities. A small sink in the kitchenette would have been great as had to fill kettle in the bathroom sink.
Beautiful internal gardens outside each rooms.
Free gated off street carpark.
All staff very helpful and welcoming.
Atrium and bar area complimented by lush gardens with plenty of seating areas for relaxing. We were a large group from Transplant Australia and this area was a great area for us to meet up and relax in.
Bar food and restaurant food delicious and reasonably priced.
Buffet breakfast fresh and delicious.
I stayed 8 nights and during my stay I had the option to put a sign on the door not to clean my room on certain nights and was rewarded with a $10 bar or food voucher each time.
Loved my stay.

Staff and amenities at this hotel were great. Location is perfect - I love the option to walk or catch the light rail to the city.
I was impressed that you get a $10 food voucher if you choose not to get room cleaned every day. I think this is a great idea to incentivise people not to unnecessarily get new sheets/towels every day!

We had a great stay for an event at the AIS (about 10 mins away). Hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating of every request. Comfy beds and pillows. We stayed in a 1 BR appt that was very spacious (you could easily fit a rollaway bed in the living room, to accommodate 3).
We booked in for bed and breakfast and enjoyed breakfast in the dining room each morning. It is great having access to a laundry ($3 per wash and dryer). The hotel carpark is complimentary and very convenient.
The hotel is made up of two atriums, the rooms around the restaurant (main atrium) would probably have some noise until the dinner service finishes. Our apartment was in the second atrium which was much quieter.
We ordered room service one night - it was fast (even though the restaurant was busy), delivered with a smile and delicious.
A great stay all round, we will be back!

The staff were excellent. Everyone member was pleasant and willing to help us with our enquiries. The restaurant food was very good. Our room was very good. The room service was excellent.
We stayed at the end of December and our first night was warm in our room and weren't able to sleep well. The air conditioning system was struggling to keep our room comfortable. The next morning as we were leaving our room we noticed a pedestal fan in the hallway and the staff told us it was complimentary to use so we used it in our room for the remaining 3 nights of our stay. Its obvious that the air conditioning system needs either some immediate repairs or upgrade. The pedestal fan made our stay lovely. We loved the central location and our experience was very good.
We would book here again for a stay in the future. We would also recommend to our friends as a place to stay.

When we arrived, the gentleman on the front desk noted that I had difficulty with my walking and said that I may have a problem taking a shower over the bath. He offered us a Free upgrade on the Sunday night to a better room that had a shower. but we had to pay an extra $40.00 for the Monday night. I am not sure whether this was necessary but as we ended up with quite a nice room I didn't argue. The Coffee lounge was fair but the staff do not know how to make a decent hot cup of coffee. WE also paid for the Buffet Breakfast. The food was good to excellent and the price was acceptable given what you would pay in a local Dickson Cafe.
The hotel price was one of the cheapest on offer and I will definitely look at staying there again next time I come down although I will confirm exactly what we are paying for. Being on a pension, every dollar counts.

Positives:
The hotel has a lovey foyer with a bar/restaurant. Happy hour is from 4-6pm.
I enjoyed sitting here to relax with a wine at the end of a busy day surrounded by plants and fairy lights, great ambiance especially at night.
The rooms are comfortbale and mostly clean. The beds are very comfortable.
Parking is free and easy to access the hotel.
The tram is across the road so easy to get to Canberra city centre shoppping and restaurants.
Staff friendly.
Things that could improve the stay:
I could hear pipes clanging early in the morning- I guess from a shower in another room. The air con did not seem to work so it got hot in the room. Rooms could do with a little revamp as furniture scuffed and scratched.
The toastie for breakfast was the worse I have had- not sure if it was plastic cheese but not great and also cold after a 20 minute wait. The small bottle of juice for $7 is something I will never go back for as it was totally over priced.
Besides the suggested improvements we had a nice stay for 2 noights and would return again.

We travelled with our daughter and her family. We had adjoining rooms. Our room was cheaper than most hotels in Canberra on the night that we stayed. The reception staff did a deal so that our 2nd room for my daughter, her husband and their daughter was the same price as ours. The Rooms were very comfortable although we would have preferred a separate shower. My daughter and particularly our young grand daughter loved the pool. The Coffee Shop was excelled. We did not stay for breakfast as it was a bit pricey for what we eat for breakfast. They need to offer toast and or cereal instead of a full buffet breakfast The staff were very polite and helpful
Overall a good stay

Good Morning Louise,
We do have hotel rooms off Northbourne, which would be located on the top floor. Please be advised that these are not apartments and do not have cooking facilities. If you are looking for cooking facilities in your room I would recommend you to our sister property "The Deco" hotel as this would be a better fit. Please feel free to contact the hotel for further information. Happy to help find the right place for you.
Kind Regards
Dan Brophy

Hi, Just wondering in the spa suite if there is TV in the lounge room as well as the bedroom? thanks
Absolutely.
Good Morning Alan,
Pavilion is 4km from Floriade and a 9 minute drive. Parking is available at Floriade and we do operate a drop off courtesy van service Monday to Friday from 7am until 9am. Bookings are required at the hotel reception.
