Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As I was arriving at the hotel, staff called me to ask me to change to a different hotel. If I'd been given more notice I might have, as well as offered some sort of room upgrade or some offer to change hotel? But literally as I was walking in the door they were asking me to change to a different hotel, and they asked a few too many times for it to be polite. I dropped my bag in my room and headed out so it wasn't until late at night when I went to get ready for bed I noticed hair in the shower drain and blood (?) on the underside of the sink basin? (Gross) Doesn't really matter to me but the coffee machine as well as the phone in my room did not work either. When I went to check out there was a 'back in 5 minutes' sign on the desk- after waiting for 5 minutes no one had come and my uber was waiting so I had to reach over the desk and steal a sticky note to leave on my room key asking for them to check me out. The outside of the hotel is lovely, the price is right and the location is great. Bed was very comfortable.

From booking to departure, the service, rooms and hospitality at the hotel was perfect. The grounds are perfectly kept, restaurants and bars are only a very short walk away for functions. If you are looking for place to stay in Canberra,The Brassey is worth it.

We love staying at Brassey Hotel. It's a convenient location, with spacious, convivial rooms and charming public sitting areas and balconies scattered throughout the building, as well as discrete and equally charming private gardens. Bathrooms are a little dated, and there is no in-house dining, but the nearby and associated Hotel Realm covers dining needs, with indoor and outdoor options. You are also close to a variety of other cafes and restaurants. Telopea Park is nearby for a morning (or any other time) walk. There is onsite parking, with undercover parking available at no cost in an adjacent building. This is an excellent place to stay, not super luxurious, but very comfortable and good value and with friendly, helpful staff on call 24/7.

Beautiful old building with nice communal balconies and outdoor sitting area. Rooms have everything you need for a short stay and are clean and the beds are comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. Kingston and the foreshore are walking distance with lots of cafes and restaurants. We rented two bikes at the hotel for a longer trip into Canberra. The bikes were in a perfect state of repair and reception has helmets and locks.

The Brassey Hotel is well located. Although the building is old, and not everything in the building works perfectly, it remains my preferred place to stay in Canberra. It is close to Ritual Coffee, which serves very good continental breakfasts and takeaway sandwiches for lunch.

We were meeting up with an elderly friend who had flown in from the UK. The location was great so we could walk to restaurants and breakfast. The staff were extremely accommodating and made her feel comfortable upgrading to a room as she couldn’t do stairs.

Love this place, perfect for walking to National Library. Pleasant comfortable room with giant bed, lounge room long and adequate work desk. Reasonable ensuite. Some staff very welcoming, the odd one with home concerns presumably as a little grumpy. A pantry chock-block with booze and nibbles which is handy. Expensive of course but one expects that. So from a constant Traveler. Excellent.
