We had a lovely stay in a Superior King Room on a recent weekend away. The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed a swim and hot spa at the indoor pool area. The buffet breakfast had a good variety of food. I would definitely stay at the Rydges Hotel again

When checking into the hotel, I was given the wrong room. I had booked a king suite, but was given a twin room. I had to go back to reception where they fixed it an apologised. The room itself was very comfortable, but the air vent for heating and cooling was incredibly loud that it was hard to do any work. I eventually turned it off during the night because I couldn't sleep, and I'm a pretty heavy sleeper. My trip was at the start of February, so it was warm but not hot, but it was uncomfortable trying to sleep without the aircon on, so I was in a lose-lose situation. The shower in the bathroom is also designed poorly. The glass shower screen wasn't long enough so the toilet and the area around it ended up getting drenched when having a shower, and you have to spend an extra few minutes trying to mop up the excess water with the bathmat which ends up soaking wet. The restaurant on the ground floor is a great, cosy environment, but the staff are a bit strange. I ordered chocolate ice cream and a cup of tea as I'd had dinner elsewhere. They brought me green tea ice cream instead and when I pointed out that they'd brought the wrong thing, they said they couldn't take it back because it's already been "prepared". It was literally two scoops of ice cream in a bowl, I doubt there had been much 'preparation'. It took some arguing before they finally agreed to take it back, but when they brought me the the bowl again, it still had the same two scoops of green tea ice cream but they'd just added one scoop of chocolate. I gave up and just ate the chocolate scoop. The positives were that the hotel lobby and corridors are clean, nice, and quiet. There is a communal laundry on level 2, which would be convenient if you're staying longer. There is a small strip of shops (Coles supermarket, pharmacy, newsagent, and some clothing stores), cafes and restaurants about 20 mins walk from the hotel, which was also convenient. Manuka oval and stadium were also about 20 mins walk. The hotel staff were, for the most part, polite and friendly.

Good afternoon, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about your recent stay with us. We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you encountered during your visit, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. We're truly sorry for the initial mix-up with your room allocation and for the discomfort caused by the loud air vent. We understand the importance of a restful night's sleep and apologize for falling short in this regard. Additionally, we apologize for the design flaw in the shower, which resulted in water reaching areas it shouldn't have. Your feedback is valuable, and we will address these issues with our team to ensure improvements are made. Regarding your experience at our restaurant, we apologize for the confusion and inconvenience caused by the incorrect order. This does not meet our standards of service, and we apologize for the frustration it caused. We will address this with our restaurant team to ensure better communication and service moving forward. We're glad to hear that you found our hotel lobby and corridors clean, and that you appreciated the convenience of the communal laundry and the nearby shops and amenities. Your kind words about our polite and friendly staff mean a lot to us, and we'll be sure to pass along your compliments to the team. Once again, we apologize for the shortcomings you experienced, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for a much-improved experience in the future. Warm regards, Ali Duty Manager Rydges Canberra

A great stay, with one minor wrinkle which was promptly dealt with. Our room was huge, clean and well provisioned. We loved the hair and body products provided in the large containers, so much better than environmentally damaging small containers. We also enjoyed a drink in the lobby bar, and we found the parking easy to access as well.

It was mostly good, staff are friendly and the room is nice, it was a good price as well. just missing out on the finer details. Body wash was empty, grate in bathroom was extremely dirty, no cold still water in room and the towels in pool area were empty (lucky we brought our own).

Had a lovely weekend with our family. The pool was great and the breakfast buffet had a great selection. My kids loved it! I hurt my finger on one of the doors and the manger was so lovely and made sure I was ok and looked after. We would love to go back again

Such a great place ! Everything about our stay was good. Loved that you open the window and you can see nature and it's the inside of the hotel! The only downfall with children is that the windows don't have screens on them so a child could literally fall out if windows are kept opened. But we just kept them locked. Although it is an older building, the place is still kept so clean, huge bathroom space and great service from everyone. The workers were so accommodating and just so smiley all the time. Definitely would be back here!

Convenient location, clean and comfy room, friendly staff - and noticeably "green conscious." The hotel is also close to public transport and with an easy walk of the charming "urban village" of Manuka. The only "criticism" that I might have is that the room service menu seemed a bit expensive. All told, however, it's a good place to stay.

I had high expectations staying at the Rydges due to the reputation of the business. This hotel looks impressive in the foyer but seems a bit dated in some aspects when it comes to the rooms. The room was really stuffy, you couldn’t open any windows and the whole hotel felt a bit suffocating. There was no natural airflow. It felt stuffy the whole time even with air con. The air con system was a bit old in the rooms. The buffet breakfast was decent but the staff were clearly under the pump. There wasn’t enough cutlery out and when asked, the male staff member wasn’t very friendly. More staff was needed to meet the demand and keep the dining room clean. It didn’t meet my expectations in terms of service compared to other breakfasts I’d experienced. This hotel is located near Manuka. It is easy to walk to the shops but still feels a bit out of the way. Parking on the street is possible and our car was safe. After staying in other hotels in other cities since, I think this was a bit overpriced in comparison. This might be a Canberra thing. To go up to very good rating, I think it needs more airflow and a bit of a revamp. We would stay again but I’d be keen to try other places in more central locations.
