The spacious centrally located 2 bedroom 2 Bathroom in need of renovation apartment on a high floor with balcony had brilliant views of Lake Burley Griffin & Parliament House. 20 minutes walk to Canberra City Centre.

The apartment had a oven, stovetop dishwasher, microwave, utensil, plated, washing machine and dryer.

Unfortunately the dryer did not work, carpet throughout stained and poorly painted walls had gauges in the plaster. Reluctantly used the oven and stovetop because the smoke alarm would go off even when all of the exterior doors to the balcony were opened.

The apartment was cleaned to the best its ability ,due the bathrooms being poorly maintained, permanent stains on the carpet, gauges out of the plastered wall and poorly painted surfaces.

Even though the apartment was in a high floor, family light sleepers were woken by traffic from the motorway below.

The secure under ground car parking, $12 a day was convenient.

Spacious 2 bedroom with big living area and full kitchen. Nice view of the lake through full length windows. Heater worked well though no heater in the second bedroom. Walking distance to the CBD and the lake, though a bit far with kids (20-30 min walk) and park in in Canberra is expensive ($6 for an hour), but central to drive to many places of interest. Good place to base yourself out of if you value space over style. Handy to have a full kitchen (and laundry) though a few extra items in the apartment would have made the experience better.
Negatives:

Hot water seems to be run per individual unit, and the first night I showered after the kids had a bath and the shower went stone cold once I’d soaped up which was horrible during winter. One thin tea towel and a small sponge for the kitchen. Wouldn’t take much to spruce up the accessories provided to make an old building more comfortable for guests. Eg; 2 better quality tea towels and a proper kitchen cloth; Kitchen scissors and measuring cups would be good; Better knives - only one relatively sharp knife available; More than one cutting board. There was no salt and pepper or milk when we arrived, I went down to ask for more coffee after a few days and the lady at reception was lovely, saw she had all of these things and extra dishwashing powder which she provided to me but it would have been better to have this all in the rooms with enough supplies for our stay. $15 a day for parking, though I was offered to have 2 days free if I signed up to a free Accor membership so there’s that.

Hi Katrina, Thank you for taking the time to share this review and feedback - We are glad to hear you enioyed the spacious apartment and lake views although i would like to apologise in relation to some of the shortfalls mentioned. We are currently completing individual room audits to identify some areas in which we can add more items to rooms and improve guest experience, in terms of the Hot Water unfortunatley as a residential apartment complex we are limited in terms of the size of tanks we can install therefore this issue is somewhat out of our control in terms of water usage however again understand this can be difficult if travelling with family in which i am sorry this caused some issues for you. This review has also been passed onto our respective teams in the hope we can improve the items raised in this apartment and if given another opportunity in the future we hope we can provide you with a much more enjoyable overall stay. Kind Regards Joe Sergi Hotel Manager

We stayed three nights in a lake view apartment and WOW! what a view. We looked out over Parliament House and the lake, just sensational. The location is very convenient, the parliament district is an easy walk and the centre of town is just around the corner.
The apartment layout is excellent, we had a two bed, two bath apartment which made it much faster getting ready in the mornings. The full kitchen meant preparing food in the apartment was very easy, and the full dining table in the sizeable lounge room made it very comfortable. Whilst some parts of the apartment are a bit tired (it probably needs some new carpet and a paint), these didn’t detract from our visit at all.
Having secure parking on-site (for a fee) meant we could leave the car without being concerned about it.
We didn’t have time to use the pool and tennis court, but they both looked very comfortable and in excellent condition. The staff at reception, so very friendly and helpful.

First, it is not a hotel, it is an apartment building, so do not expect 24-hour reception desk or breakfast or other meals. Second, the apartments are huge, the one I stayed had 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom besides kitchen, living room and washer/dryer. However, the decoration is dated with very odd artwork throughout the apartment, and the carpet seems dirty. Third, the closets had doors that did not work well, drawers that did not fit the closet and broken hangers with nail points showing. Therefore, I maintained the closet open, and I had to organize the additional linen in the closet because it was folded in a very clumsy way. When I did so, I was horrified to notice strange stains in the blankets and duvets, they seemed to be folded after being used (seemed very dirty). Fourth, the bathroom fan was also dirty with lint and dust. Toiletries were nice, although the dispensers of some of them did not work well, seemed clogged. Fifth, when I arrived, the lights were on, and so was the dishwasher with only one sharp knife being washed, I felt uneasy to think that there could be someone else in the apartment (CSI/Criminal Minds chapters came to mind). Finally, the equipment for automated taxi call in the front desk did not work, after 15 minutes waiting for the cab, I gave up and went to the nearest hotel to call a taxi and avoid losing my flight. It was the lowest point of my stay in Canberra. The price is too high considering all the points aforementioned...

My three friends and I recently stayed in a 3 bedroom unit at the BreakFree Capital Tower Canberra.
Our advice would be to avoid Unit 101 at all costs.
On checking the bathroom, we noticed there was no shower curtain over the shower/bath in the main bathroom. This was quickly installed after we complained.
One of the bed lamps in the main bedroom couldn’t be plugged into the power point as the cord wouldn’t reach.
The tiles were broken and mouldy in the en-suite
The air conditioner was not working properly.
The toilet wouldn’t flush.
We were offered to use the toilet in another unit which was a long way down the corridor from our unit 101.
We couldn’t stay in the other unit as it hadn’t been cleaned, only able to use the toilet.
We refused to accept this and two of us were offered the Penthouse on the 20th floor, of course we found this more than acceptable.
We stayed in the Penthouse for 3 days before being moved to Unit 907 on the 9th floor to complete our holiday.
Our 2 other travelers were offered Unit 105 on the 1st floor the following day.
They were more than happy to do that, after the condition of Unit 101.
We were all given a refund for our first nights stay, plus drink vouchers for a nearby Restaurant, plus free parking for the duration of our stay.
All in all, our holiday was very enjoyable after such a bad start.
All of this was due to the Manager, Oliver, being so professional.
He couldn’t have been more caring and attentive.
We have no complaints re the management only the state of Unit 101

Room was dirty and smelt like curry. The whole facility was actually even the lift. Paid for 3 bedroom lake view was told 3 bedroom don’t have lake view room only city view which was a construction site.
Only 4 towels provided even though the apartment slept 6.
Pool area was very over grown and pool dirty, hotel was nothing like pictures shown, very old and run down and over priced for what it is, I didn’t find the location convenient at all, and they advertise free fast internet but they charge you for it, or at least try, when you attempt to log on. We didn’t use it.
Pretty average stay, I’ve stayed in a lot nicer places for less.

Dear Necia We strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us. This review has been passed onto our respective teams to improve the standard and cleanliness within this apartment and also the public area items mentioned. In relation to the room type booked as mentioned we do not categorise our 3 Bedroom Apartments into City or Lake view although i am sorry if this was not communicated or clear during the booking process. Furthermore Internet is free at the property and a code is given to all guests on their room key wallet during check in, in future we would recommend contacting our Reception team directly and sharing these concerns as the team would of been more than happy to assist further. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely, Joe Sergi Hotel Manager

We stayed here Dec 30-Jan 2nd .. I chose this hotel mainly so we could view the New Years Eve fireworks from our balcony! It was the perfect choice.

We were on level 11 and great views of lake and fireworks! We had a 2 bedroom apartment which was clean and tidy, the wifi also worked great.

Parking either in the basement or out front for $12 a day. We didn’t use the pool or other facilities.

It was great being able to cook our own meals after 1 week of being on the road travelling down from Qld, and also catch up on washing. However I don’t think the clothes dryer sitting on top of the hot water system with nothing to hold it steady was very safe, esp when it kind of wobbled a bit when in use. Maybe they need to put a bracket on the wall for it. The sooner the better.

Location was also good to walk to small store across road for supplies, walkway over the main road to the lake foreshore and into main city area for a meal if we wanted.

Oh and a lovely bonus to watch hot air balloons take off in mornings on opposite side of lake

Master bedroom and lounge/dining area was great size. Loved the king size bed and two bathrooms. Second room with two single beds was very small. Couldn’t even get into the cupboard so had to leave suitcases and clothes in dining area. Room could do with a deep clean to remove dust and debris (especially needs more cleaning focused near beds and couches as we found some unsavoury items in these areas). We found staff to be polite and accommodating at all times.

While the location was great and the staff responsive the road noise due to very poor window sealing (even on the 9th floor) was a shocker. Thank heavens we brought noise cancelling ear plugs or we would have been unable to sleep. In addition as a family the kitchen in our apartment was poorly resourced with cooking and meal items i.e. no serving bowls or platters only saucepans.
