Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Mantra on Northbourne Canberra garners mixed feedback; many guests appreciate its prime location near cafes and shopping, alongside the clean and spacious atmosphere it provides. However, opinions on value differ, with some considering parking and breakfast reasonably priced, while others find the hotel not worth the expense.
While the amenities are a plus, including convenient parking and modern room touches, there are calls for updates in the rooms, which some reviewers find outdated and lacking in maintenance. Service is generally prompt and friendly, but it's not without its occasional lapses.

Three friends, we had a 2 bedroom dual key room (1 bedroom apartment and hotel room). Both rooms were sufficient, the living area in the apartment would make it a suitable area for a family to stay. Beds were super comfy, didn’t hear anything from above or besides us despite the hotel being booked out for a music festival weekend. Only complaint was the bathrooms being in need of an update.

The staff at this hotel are wonderful. Our room did not have a walk in shower and instead of getting us to pay extra gave us access to another room to use the shower. They went above and beyond to help my mum. The room was nice, cool and clean.
Would recommend.
Thank you,
Ann

As we stay often at the Mantra for work in Canberra, it is nice to always feel welcome. The friendly helpful culture is impressive and across the board from front desk to the breakfast team. The Braddon location is well situated between local shops and restaurants, the downtown and the light rail.

Stayed here recently in a two bedroom dual key apartment. While beds where comfortable the place is very dated. The kitchen was so small you couldn’t swing a cat it had a very outdated stove/oven which took longer than it should of to cook food. The kitchen bench tops had chips out of it. And the light above the table is ridiculous every time you got up from the table you would hit your head. Mini bar is not something I want to see in family accommodation it’s so outdated and took up our whole fridge. The curtains all had stains on them. (For us with a family a workable kitchen is important as we cook meals while away on holidays)

Booked a 2 night weekend away with my kids. We specifically chose Mantra on Northbourne as the web showed they have a pool and gym. I could see that due to COVID the restaurant was closed but we were ok with that as the main thing the kids wanted to use was the pool. They were pretty devastated when we arrived to see it was closed and had been for months. I don’t understand why that wasn’t highlighted on the website like the restaurant? Then we could have stayed at the Novotel which did have their pool open. The staff were friendly and the room was ok but had very limited kitchen items (6 spoons, 2 knives, 2 forks, 2 plates ??).
Contacted the Mantra Central Reservations Web team so they could fix the web so other people don’t get misled and they told me I should have emailed them to check and ask which of each individual facilities are open or closed before booking and told me I should check some neatly hidden generic terms and conditions saying everything is subject to temporary unavailability - even though it’s been closed for months.
Staff get 5 stars, room itself gets 3 stars, location is 4 stars, Mantra Central Bookings guy gets 0 stars for his attempt at customer service so I’ve given an average of 2.

Really poor value for money would not go there gain for the price was very poor value, plus they charge you for parking. When there as special room was very small and tight no extra room, the showers were worn and tired and it was a very small room. I have visited many hotels over the past 20 years and this place was very dissatisfying. Service was the we are hereto help but when you requested help it was just polite lip service.

This hotel is located within easy stroll to shops and restaurants. All staff were lovely and very welcoming. The rooms were immaculately clean and had everything we required for our stay. We stayed in a two room apartment which has the added bonus of two bathrooms and laundry facilities in the main bathroom. We did find the mattresses to be rather uncomfortable, however on our previous stay here 12 months ago we had no problems with the beds, so may just depend on the room you get.

This place is a gem. The rooms are spacious, the beds are clean, you can't hear the traffic (we were on the upper floor though) and the service was top notch. The parking is $15 but worth it because it's in the city and other hotels like Novotel up the road charge $25 for parking, $10 for WiFi and the service from front staff are shockingly bad, whereas the staff at the Mantra were incredibly friendly.

When we got to our room we were pleasantly surprised, the room was a good size, and had its own laundry. The room was tidy and we liked that it had a kitchenette should we decide to eat in. The location was great and we found some really nice restaurants nearby.
However, there were a few things that let the experience down, the additional trundle bed we requested was a sofa bed with a very thin mattress and was in the lounge room not the bedroom, this made the lounge room unusable at night if someone wanted to sleep in the sofa bed, it also meant there was no couch in the lounge room. The room was missing the remote for the air conditioning, however this was quickly rectified when we mentioned it to the staff. The tv remote was also not paired with the tv, we spoke with the staff and this was fixed quickly as well, however by the next day it wasn’t working again, so we didn’t ask the staff about it again. Having a carpark was great, except the carpark was over booked and there was nowhere to turn our car around, and multiple times we had to reverse our car up the 2 levels back to the entrance and find parking in the streets. Also during our stay or room was not made up by housekeeping.
I would suggest the hotel staff keep track of the cars they allow to be booked into the carpark, as reversing up 2 levels on the carpark was not easy due to there being nowhere to turn the car around.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, however the were a few things that let down the experience.
A tip for people staying, request rooms on higher levels as at night the traffic noise was quite noticeable in our room.
