We stayed here when our flight was diverted to Canberra. The desk clerk handled the rush of displaced passengers sent here well. The rooms were very comfortable. The location is in a lively area, convenient to restaurants and a hopping nightlife..

I stayed at the Novotel Brisbane 5 days ago, and the Novotel Canberra this week, these two properties are polar opposites when it comes to experience/inclusions/value for money, with the Novotel Canberra a 3 star motel compared to the 4.5 star Novotel Brisbane - I was shocked at how the experience could vary so much within the same brand. Comparison between the two: Novotel Canberra - (NC) Novotel Brisbane - (NB) 1. Room service: NB: Full room service was available NC: It states its available from 4pm. I requested food at 5pm, "sorry sir, the kitchen doesn't open til 5.30pm". Ugh 2. Minibar NB: Fully stocked minibar replenished daily. NC: No minibar on offer whatsoever, nothing... 3. Coffee NB: Barista coffee is served standard with breakfast each morning. NC: Barista coffee only available at an additional charge, even when breakfast is included. 4. Breakfast NB: Eggs anyway you like, omelette, poached, sunny side up, whatever - just ask. NC: I requested an omelette, "that'll be an additional cost on top of what you've already paid for breakfast". Are you serious!? What's the point of paying for breakfast?? 5. Drinks Asked front desk at 11pm for a can of soft drink and charge it to my room. "We have no drinks as the bar is closed". They could not even get a can that could be fetched from the fridge and charge it to the room. So with no minibar, and nothing available for purchase - uber delivery came in handy. 6. Pre-ordering NB: Inroom card to pre-order breakfast for delivery, just fill in and leave it outside at night. NC: No such thing exists Gerneral stuff: Im 5ft 8 and the shower head was 1cm off the top of my head, hate to have been any taller. Shower over bath too so avoid if you have mobility issues. Stained curtains, chipped cupboards, room carpet filthy and in desperate need of replacing. The only saving grace here is location (however there are plenty of other properties in the same location so you have choice), and all staff were friendly. Avoid if you want 3 star or above. Stay if you're ok with motel style, lack of services, lack of amenities and wanting to pay for extras that should already be included. Hot tip: Canberra accom can book out well in advance, especially if parliament is sitting. Make sure to book as far in advance as you can to avoid disappointment.

Limited Refurbished Rooms - the majority of the time over the last two years stayed at the hotel was in the style of a 2 Star motel room with a 5 Star pricing. There should definitely be clarity that the rooms on website are extremely limited! I have let me company know and will be delisting the hotel from our hotel options.

Very Average. The rooms are quite basic, a bit worn out (some rooms more than others), but not terrible. The hotel has a very good location, in the CBD, and practically walking distance from everywhere. Breakfast at the hotel was simple, very average. I have been here a few times before, and the breakfast quality has decreased significantly. As for facilities, the hotel has a small indoor pool, very nice.

Stayed on 14/10 and 15/10. The hotel is very centrally located and like other reviews the rooms are dated and in need of refurbishment. What really upset us however was the valet parking which was completely diabolical when we went to pick our car up. The valet staff made a point of asking us when we were leaving and what time. When we tried to pick up our car we were told to go to bay 53 (find your car yourself) no offer of showing when it was parked or bringing car to us (isn't this part of the valet service?). We then discovered our car was blocked by another car and the staff did not have the key or know what room it belonged to. It seems that the valet service is not 24hr and guests can park themselves, why when the person has parked themselves not required to advice reception of their car details and leave the keys with reception. The Duty Manager was very unhelpful and the response was "the Valet staff will be able to move your car" We did not want the valet staff "trying" to move our new car, we did manage to move it, but valuable time was lost in this unnecessary delay, and this was not a good way to end our stay. Jessica we will be sending an email to you on this. As you would agree for most guests, the carpark is the first and last impression of your Hotel.

I don’t know where to start, we arrived at 3:30 and check in is at 3 but our rooms were not even ready. I requested for interconnecting rooms but they gave us 2 standard rooms. I told reception to fix it and he did but it took him a while. $32 per day for parking but when we went to the carpark, no parking was available so we ended up parking at somewhere else. It was valet parking, which was okay but when they told us there was no parking left and that they would take it somewhere else we didn’t want that. Later when we were looking for our own parking we found out they park our cars to a close by parking lot which is WAY CHEAPER than the $32 per day. The rooms are dirty and outdated, the painting was peeling off the walls. There was mould in the bathrooms and the carpet was stained which made the room smell. Also very small elevator, the hotel needs renovation. Breakfast is okay, nothing special. No pancakes/hotcakes. The staff was not that friendly at the buffet, they didn’t even have a smile on there face. I am very very disappointed.

I stayed at the Novotel for 6 nights, and could not fault it. My room was very comfortable, and my double bed was huge. The front counter staff was always very pleasant and could not have been more helpful. All the facilities in the hotel were of a very high quality. The position was bang in the centre of the city, with everything close by and within minutes of walking to shops and all sorts of restaurants, cafes and eateries....lots of choices in that department. The light rail system is just across the road, where you can go for a cheap ride to many of the outside suburbs for just $2.50. As well, the taxi rank is right outside the front door....you never have to book or ring for a taxi. If I had to find any fault at all, maybe the evening dinner service. While the service was faultless at the start, it tended to disappear altogether after having given your initial order. If you needed anything else, it was the devil of a job to find someone.

Not sure where to start, there were so many things wrong with this hotel. I believe the photos might describe part of the experience. False advertising. Should have known as soon as we stepped into the lift which had chunks taken out of the floor on entry, the room was incredibly small, the power outlets didn’t work, the shower/bath was putrid and unable to be used by anyone over 5 foot tall, it certainly had no mirror or vanity in the bathroom - all the room had was the cracked sink which was nearly at the front door, the furniture was literally held together with sticky tape, the glassware wasn’t clean… honestly was lost for words. The front desk even admitted the carpark was a joke - I would say for $32 a day additional to the overpriced cost of staying at this ‘hotel’ this was extortion. If you park there, don’t expect to get out even though they advertise unlimited entry. Lucky that the hotel is walking distance to most facilities because there was no way once my car was wedged in the carpark I was risking moving it! I have never loved my own bed more either than after staying at the Novotel Canberra. The pillows are literally concrete. My wife ended up getting severe neck pain from the ‘bed’ while on our holiday - she ended up bed ridden and sick upon returning home. This hotel needs drastic renovations, the carpark needs to be replaced and they need to seriously reconsider their pricing structure considering the level of dilapidation of their facilities. They are more interested in blowing leaves away from the front foyer than actually addressing what needs to be done which is ensuring rooms are fit for guests. The hotel staff are delusional if they think this is even close to being acceptable. To say it was disappointing to the hotel industry but to Canberra itself is an understatement!
