The Ramada by Wyndham Diplomat Canberra garners praise for its comfortable beds, quality food, and prime location, making it a convenient choice for those looking to explore local dining, shopping, and attractions. While the rooms are appreciated for their spaciousness and comfort, a few guests have pointed out that some features appear dated. Service at the hotel is generally commended for being friendly and helpful, although there have been occasional concerns over Wi-Fi connectivity and restaurant service speed. While the hotel's atmosphere and cleanliness receive positive remarks, opinions on value and pricing are mixed, with some guests highlighting great package deals and others questioning the cost relative to the amenities provided.

Diplomat was a pleasant and handy find for our short 2 night stay in ACT. The hotel is a little tucked away on the corner of Hely Street and Canberra Avenue, so is very central to Kingston/Manuka oval and government areas in ACT.
The low profile and classic interior layout was a great step back in time. Just loved the large central atrium/restaurant area with surrounding exposed internal floor balconies.
The hotel is a solid 3.5 star for amenity and isn't quite up there with glitzy flash updated options but has lovely charm. (also not at those price points)

Room was very spacious and bed comfortable for our needs. Room amenities are pretty good and did come with a fully supplied minibar with extras at quite reasonable value for a hotel.

Restaurant was tried on our first night and was also pretty good value for money and food quality decent, so we had a lovely meal. The restaurant staff were all extremely polite and attentive and a credit to the Hotel management.

Unfortunately, the reception staff weren't quite up to the same level, pleasant enough but not particularly engaging or interested but efficient.
The onsite parking was greatly appreciated with both external unsecured and undercover options available.

We were pretty please overall with our stay and would happily return.

The Ramada is clean and airy. The centre of the hotel is a massive atrium that no architect would get away with these days! However, when sitting in that area for breakfast it was a bit cold - and that was not welcoming on a one degree Canberra morning.

The breakfast included in our accommodation package was more than we needed (and included a glass of granola, fruit and yogurt, plus eggs and bacon, etc), but tea and coffee were additional charges. Sorry, but that it ridiculous and not fair to the poor staff explaining that to every guest.

Our room overlooked a large roundabout, and the traffic noise was noticeable from early morning. Maybe ask for a room on Hely Street.

There was covered and secure parking underneath the building - and that also ensured our car was not covered in ice on the chilly mornings.

The wifi drops in and out. I’m glad I was not trying to do any work there.

The bath/shower is compact. If you have mobility issues, be sure to book a room that meets your needs. At peak times the shower water ran between lukewarm and hot.

Overall, a good budget hotel in the Canberra suburbs.

Everything was perfect to the detail - the lounge area with water station, entertainment, small library, the pool, the gym, and especially the guest laundry with free detergent. The room was beautiful and had everything you need. Worth every penny.

The room and bed itself was nice but that's where the positive review ends.

There were many things that occurred during my stay that would make me not return and also not recommend.

Firstly, the night that we arrived, we ordered food in the hotel restaurant that took over two hours to arrive, for risotto. Every time we asked for an update on the food, we were told five minutes, that was from the forty-five minute mark. When the food did arrive it was luke warm at best and had huge chunks of uncooked onion. The manager did give some free drinks for this but honestly the service and food was horrible and we went to bed.

The next day, the breakfast was great and well worth the money. I did enjoy this.

We then thought, since breakfast was so good, we would try the restaurant again for dinner, whilst the food came out much quicker it still wasn't great for the price.

We were travelling in a large group and at one point (around 9:00pm) without any initial warning, the head of our group received a personal call from the manager threatening: "If I have to come in there, I will be kicking you out." We were not screaming, there were no children under 16 and we were not loud, nor did we have anyone ever ask if we could quieten down at all, they just jumped straight to kicking guests out. This was ridiculous and sent us to bed, where normally we would've stayed up and continued to support the bar and hotel quietly.

I would also like to note that this same day, I asked in the morning if I could get an extra towel in my room, I was told at that point that my room would be made up and they would add a towel. Well much to my surprise at 9pm when I went to bed, my room had not been touched. The bin was full, bed unmade and no towel. Normally, this wouldn't have mattered but honestly it felt like this hotel just got worse and worse.

I'd also like to note that the bathrooms in the room are very dated, the shower head would not stay in place and kept shooting water out onto the floor. It's also not very accessible as it is a bath/shower you have to step up into, and with a mother that is short, this was difficult and slippery for her.

There were many other issues, including things being paid at the bar that were then on the bill at check out but I really can't be bothered to talk anymore about it.

Dear Brittney, Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We regret that your experience did not meet our service standards. Unfortunately, it is difficult for our small team to accommodate a group of 60 pax in a la carte dining with 3 hours notice. We did our best to avoid turning your group away. The groups organizer graciously accepted the advice that there might be delays in service due to the short notice, as we also needed to ensure a high level of service for our other guests. Regarding the disturbance after the restaurant had closed, as we are located within a hotel, it is important for us to maintain a peaceful, safe environment for all our guests. As such, we ask that all our guests maintain a level of decorum that respects the other patrons as well as our team. This had been communicated to your group organiser on numerous occasions. Unfortunately, management were required to respond to the multiple complaints regarding the indecorous conduct and noise attributed to your group. We genuinely regret any dissatisfaction and value your feedback as we continue to improve our processes and communication. Ramada by Wyndham Diplomat Canberra

Found this place looking for a place for me and collegues to regularly stay on business trips in the area, WIFI was absolutely terrible, completely unusable and had to rely on 5G hotspot to work, TV unusable. Paid a large sum to stay for multiple weeks but needed to leave a day early. They would rather refuse future business than allow me to leave a day early so I could switch my flights around. Front desk was dismissive and manager seemingly was avoiding contact with me.

Very nice building, the rooms are clean and well appointed. The receptionist could have been clearer re some of our queries. The staff were generally very polite and accomodating however the execution was lacking. We booked breakfast as a family, we waited for everyone to arrive and then ordered together Two breakfasts were served but four people waited 40 minutes then I went to chase up the order. Sometimes the explanation is worse than the lack of service. Five staff were loitering around not delivering coffees that had been prepared in order to polish some tables. Finally after 10 more minutes the lukewarm breakfasts arrived. No return to this place we are driving back through Canberra but will look elsewhere.

We chose Ramada as it was a 3 minute walk from the railway station, 4 km from Fyshwick hire cars and a pleasant 1km from Manuka restaurants and less to the Lake walkway and the main icons like Portrait Gallery, National Library etc. Great for easy travel. The breakfast deal filled us up all day, saving money and the accom was spacious, very clean and extremely comfortable sleeping. It's not a fun or social place but it does its job and the staff were very professional. Look for cheaper third party deals as they tend to beat the door price. PS There's a laundry in the basement. Machines do a great job of wash and dry but allow for 2 hours.

Perfect place to stay. Close to airport, great restaurants in both Kingston and Manuka. Clean, friendly staff, comfortable beds and all the nice little touches. We will be staying there again! Parking was free and the hotel was quiet, offered room service, restaurant and everything that we needed. Perfect stay and would recommend staying at the Diplomat.

A bit dated, beds are comfortable, we were upgraded to a King Spa Room, a bit disappointed the spa was filthy, had water marks, and signs of pink mould growing. Otherwise no complaints. Just open the windows so you can get rid of the musty smell.
We paid full rate via the hotel website, just beware that the price listed for one day, might be different on checkout for the next day. Ie one of the days was $189, and the next day was $209, same room mid week. A bit annoyed that happened. Unfortunately I didn’t see it till after I had paid.
