Welcome to Mercure Canberra, a part of Canberra's history Originally known as the Hotel Ainslie, Mercure Canberra was built to provide accommodation for public servants relocating to Canberra to support the transfer of the Commonwealth Parliament. It is one of eight remaining government built hotels or hostels from Canberra's first stage of development in the 1920s and is listed in the Register of the National Estate. Mercure Canberra is historically significant for its important role in the development of North Canberra and the forging of its community identity. While maintaining many original features, the hotel embraces the need for 21st century comforts to ensure you feel welcome and have an enjoyable stay. Our 129 guest rooms are well appointed and have been decorated in keeping with the heritage style of the building. Our Standard rooms are located in the Heritage wing, with the layout and style of room not changing from the hotels' original days. For those looking for a more modern layout, you may wish to select one of our Superior or Deluxe Loft rooms in the newer part of the building. Our guests have the option to dine at our onsite Courtyard Restaurant serving modern Australian cuisine in the evening and a choice of Continental or Buffet breakfast in the morning. Those looking for a more casual dining experience can enjoy Bistro style meals from our Olims Bar & Bistro, a favourite spot for hotel guests and locals to mingle, serving Craft Beers & Cider from our very own Lovedale Brewery Our location is ideal. 600m from the Australian War Memorial commemorating those who serve our country, both past and present. Most of Canberra's National Attractions are within 10 minutes' drive from the hotel and the CBD is and easy 10 minute walk away and offers a wide range of cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as shops and a Dendy Movie Cinema. Our team at Mercure Canberra look forward to making you feel welcome when you plan your next stay in beautiful Canberra, Australia

This has to take the cake for the dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed at. So bad I decided it was best to sleep on top of the bed and not in it.and no maintenance being done, amd this was the honeymoon suite But a big thanks to Claudia, of it had not been for her I would have walked , but tired. I simply cannot recommend this hotel at all Tiles in bathroom are disgusting, and the carpet filthy .

Checked in here for 6 nights and it didn’t disappoint. Staff are friendly and the cooking staff gave me gluten free meals that didn’t disappoint. Is this a 5* hotel, no but it’s spacious, clean, neat & tidy. The hotel is on a bus route so I used the local buses to get round, easier than cars. Plenty to see so enjoy.

Olims Bar & Bistro is located on the ground floor of the Mecure Hotel in Canberra. Order and pay for your meals and drinks at the bar. Had a few good, filling pub style meals here. There are meal deals for different nights of the week, as well as a specials board. Burgers, schnitzel with choice of sauces, fish (the the narrow fish pieces were a bit so so) & chips (good), steaks, pasta, soup of the day..... Indoor and outdoor seating areas. Lunch and dinners. Sometimes tricky to find a nearby carpark. No fuss decent pub meals and service.

Worst hotel in Canberra…. You name it and they will not disappoint you. 1. Smelly hotel, yes, 2. Leaking water tap, sure, 3. Fire alarm at the midnight, sure, but no one is there to inform you anything, 4. Price, I paid for $415 for 1 night from 25 November 2023 to 26 November 2023 because they said that there were some sort of music festival, but this hotel is worse than a 2 star motel and the room was as big as my toilet at our house, 5. What else??? To many to mention here and this is my first time ever making any comments about a hotel during my 40 years of travelling around the world.

I had originally booked our stay in Canberra at the Deco Hotel, but because they couldn't guarantee a room with a balcony I switched to the Mercure. And what a good decision that turned out to be! It was one of the first hotels to be built in Canberra. There are paintings in the hotel showing how isolated its early existence was. The rooms are on two floors surrounding a central courtyard-cum-garden. Our room was comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast was an extensive buffet with a short-order chef on hand for individual requests. We used the car park for one night ($15), but found that the fun area of Canberra (e.g., Lonsdale St) was a short walk away. I would definitely book again here if we return to Canberra!

This very picturesque heritage-listed Hotel in the Accor group has all modern comforts inside. It has history as it was used as a Women's Residence during WW2. It is also picturesque because it is built around a lovely courtyard garden, where the Canberra fountain was playing and spring flowers blooming. The reception and public areas are in keeping with its heritage era with its dark wood. It has a locked gate parking area for good security and is situated off a busy street but is quiet in the leafy suburb of Braddon. It is not far from the City and 5 minutes walking distance to the War Memorial. The staff were extremely helpful especially Rosie. We had an initial change of rooms due to an unfixable electrical problem but after that everything worked well. We appreciated the great buffet breakfast provided for Accor members and I enjoyed a made-to-order omelet every morning. The busy breakfast room was pleasant looking out to the interior private garden. Our room was clean and comfortable with all we could want for a week's stay, warm (Canberra was cold) and with a very comfortable bed to come home to each evening. The room was serviced daily. Olim's restaurant is also situated next door where we ate one night. It was also a good place to eat with a good specials menu during the week. The Schnitzel on that night was delicious. It was a very comfortable home away from home and I would certainly recommend it.

I would bluntly say that the old Olims needs a complete refurb or a bulldozer. The online photos are clearly photoshopped and the dusty, dated, basic facilities are an utter disappointment for $305 per night. Do not eat your dinner here as it’s a pub /mess hall with no ambience and less than hospital grade food for $25-$30 per person. I asked for a refund of the beef nachos as they were clearly prepared days in advance and microwaved. I got the refund but the head chef said that’s just the way we serve them… no pride or love in any of the 4 dishes I spent $112 on. We ventured into town to get some nice food and drinks. The hotel is a maze and has loads of stairs and it’s confusing even with a map. There is a lift but I think it was built when Jesus was just a boy. The hotel staff are sensational and could not be more kind or accomodating and there is secure parking for $15 per 24 hours which is great. It’s in a central location so if this is where you want to stay, just temper your expectations.

The old Olims is really showing its age. Secure parking was ok but chipped paint everywhere like most Mercures recently. The garden view was pleasant but the whole place need revamping and redecorating. More old than old world charm I think.

I have stayed in many of Canberra's hotels in my business life and enjoy the experience of staying in different eras and styles. My expectations for the Mercure Braddon were reserved with it being likely a bit run down from some reviews and old fashioned in others, as well as many very positive comments. I'll address the maintenance level first. Yes, there are some places with slightly peeling paint or a door that has seen 95 years of use, but I loved that! It's very hard to maintain the character of a lovely, solid 1920's hotel and still get the standard of amenities you expect from modern hotels. After checking in, which was excellent with the very cheerful and well-informed receptionist (lady, red hair, sorry didn't get the name but thank you for the hotel introduction), I went for a wander around. Open fireplace with classic armchairs that would have been a warm welcome in winters to a charming (yes, I used the word) courtyard with fountain and well-maintained gardens, to two slightly sparsely populated but clean fish tanks. An unexpected feature. The loft room was spacious and clean. Aircon on both levels, bed just fine, bathroom recently revamped to a good standard and kitchen area large and functional. Back in the main hotel and I bumped into a very cheerful and helpful chap who turned out to be Lukas, the GM of the hotel. I believe management style is reflected in the way the staff behave and to me this is a happy place of work which permeates through the people I met whilst there. The room was perfectly silent and no issues with facilities. Did get housekeeping to close the manual loft louvre blinds which they did within 15 minutes. I did get a quick parmie/ parma in the bistro which was good and if you are an Accor ALL member, even cheaper. On to breakfast, which was a classic style, and I was in retro love with it. Whilst there were the standard chipolatas, perfectly scrambled egg, bacon, marmalade toast etc. I noticed some attentive GF and DF dishes as well as alternative dishes which the staff suggested. I spoke with some visitors who had been coming for years and, whilst this day had a group of more elderly guests, they all loved the service, comfort and homely qualities of the hotel. I look forward to my next stay at the Mercure Braddon as it felt welcoming and warm throughout my stay. Many thanks to Lukas and the entire team.

Hotel urgently requires some maintenance/ updates & new towels.! Room was so poky especially in the bathroom, Old musty smell everywhere :( Parking of $15 per day was overkill given the room price. However, water was hot & cleaning staff appear to try hard given the poor condition of hotel. Is in walking distance to City Centre & War Memorial.
