I really liked the hotel rooms. I'd booked a package with complimentary minibar, breakfast, parking, food and drink vouchers etc all included which made it quite good value for Canberra. Rooms are very spacious and well set out. I didn't find them particularly dark (as a lot of reviews said). It's true that the windows are onto a central courtyard but there was plenty of light and no one could see into your room unless they got out binoculars. The rooms have privacy curtains so I feel that's a non issue. I found check in staff to be great. The bar was very busy and too noisy for me but staff were friendly and happy to help with having drinks in the (much quieter) reception area which has nice lounges. Breakfast food was good and arrived quickly, but I felt the table service was rushed and quite abrupt, mainly because there didn't seem to be enough staff on. I ate at the restaurant one night. As a solo traveller I dislike restaurants that insist on doing so much of their menu as 'share plates' but I was able to get a decent meal, though with much less choice than people eating in groups. The food was good quality and wasn't too slow arriving, especially considering there was another function on, however the table service was pretty awful. The person on my table started well, taking a drinks order quickly, then took ages to come back for a meal order. My drink didn't arrive at all and I was completely ignored by the server. She was going to tables either side of me but completely ignored me. I gave up and went to the counter to ask about my drink. I had to walk right past her to do this and still wasn't acknowledged. From that time, another server took over. She was lovely and friendly and did her best but was obviously not a regular there. The location is excellent, walking distance to many restaurants and shopping centres. I probably will return again but won't bother with the restaurant which really let down an otherwise excellent stay.

This was a one night stay for New Years Eve 2023 and I could not have stayed in this hotel for longer than that primarily because the lack of light, the dark walls, corridors, tiles, curtains and lack of pleasant outlook etc all contributed to a funereal atmosphere. It’s aptly named. Also the size of the hanging space is absolutely ridiculous- see photo - unless you are a child you couldn’t fit anything in there and in fact we were both taken aback by the thoughtlessness of the design given we had a mobility accessible room (I wanted a hand held shower head) and there was a lot of space but none reserved for your clothes!! We were in room 816 on the eighth floor. We had a king size bed and it was very comfortable, as were the pillows and bedding. The coffee machine was the only one I’ve ever had that worked properly in an hotel and was easy to use and tasted hot and good. The bathroom was very big with a good shower but the same problem as with the clothes, no space for your towels to be stored or hung to dry and very little space on the small sink. A shelf in the shower and above the sink would be such a simple and effective way to fix this. The fridge was quite small although it held a bottle of champagne! But not so cold so my husband tried to adjust it, but still only just adequate. It took one request at reception, two subsequent phone calls and over three hours to get someone to deliver some champagne glasses and even then they brought wine glasses! Eventually they arrived. Everything was very clean and the towels were a decent size for once. The pool was most enjoyable (although very dark and dim like the whole hotel) and there were plenty of towels here too. The water temperature was very pleasant. Despite several communications prior to arrival regarding the car parking, no one explained the set up which would have been most helpful, cause ideally you would park first, go straight up via the lift with your luggage rather than clog up the driveway and walk down lots of rather steep stairs with your luggage and have a ridiculous back up of cars out the front and into the road. We didn’t eat there, but do recommend The Italian Place literally across the road, and there are lots of other places to eat in Braddon. The reception staff were friendly and helpful (although no porters it seemed as we had to stack and take a luggage trolley to the room ourselves) and in particular Sabina was most amenable and good at handling people. In short I would only stay there again if it was for one night and I’ll take a esky and clothes that don’t crease or need hanging!

If you are claustrophobic, do not stay here! The rooms are small and dark and there is not a view of outside from the rooms. The ‘atrium’ is the central core of these rooms and frankly, is depressing. So much so, we couldn’t stay another night, and moved elsewhere the next day.
This is probably aimed at a younger demographic: those who don’t mind a frosted glass sliding door across the bathroom/toilet! Yes, if there is someone sitting on the loo at the time of a room service delivery it is nothing short of embarrassingly uncomfortable: for everyone! What architect/interior designer thinks this is appropriate?! To me, it is not.
As someone has already commented, the entrance to reception from street level is via many stairs. Goodness knows how ppl in wheelchairs or parents with children in prams cope with this situation.
The bar and restaurant area was sparse and minimalist. Instead we ldecided to eat at ‘The Italian Place’ across the road. It was lovely.
There’s also confusion with the car park underneath which is owned by Wilson’s. You’ll be charged $15 per night for this - but apparently it costs Midnight Hotel $30 per day! Confusion reigns about how to access/exit this car park: make sure you ask reception working what’s required to enter the car park. Many others were confused, not just us!

I found this hotel by accident and I am glad I did. In a great location near restaurants and cafes, this hotel has the lot. Complete with Sauna and Pool, friendly staff, a nice bar and restaurant, everything is covered for a lovely stay. The hotel does have permanent residents living in the higher floors, but to be honest, you wouldn't even know. The room itself was inviting with a free (yes free) mini bar that is stocked daily. The bed was comfy and the room was very quiet. Will definitely stay here again.

I don't really write reviews, but I just have to for what has to be the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Quite frankly some of the kookier Soviet Era hotels I've stayed in Eastern Europe have had better customer service. I'd post again on their own review portal, but of course, you can't.
First, when I checked in I paid the bill for the whole stay, or so I thought. When I checked out I paid for some drinks at the hotel bar (in fairness, their cocktails are good), and closed my account, or so I thought. That night I was hit with another accommodation charge without notice or warning. When I queried this I was told they had 'forgotten' to charge my account and they had every right to do so. Reading the T&C's this seemed dubious but that was of no issue to them.
Initially they resorted to ignoring my email and phone complaints (repeatedly telling me 'no worries' on the phone and addressing me incorrectly, even after I've corrected them). Eventually they responded, after I posted a review on their website, commenting that they were sorry, and indicating they had emailed me to resolve the issue. After refusing to provide any refund they offered me 10,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points as a gesture of 'goodwill.' They also offered to have their Executive Assistant Manager look after me on my next stay at the hotel (after I said on multiple occasions that I'd never stay with them again). That was about a month ago.
This weekend, out of curiosity I logged on to my Bonvoy account to find no points had been added, I emailed them yesterday morning and still no reply. I've checked my Bonvoy account just now, and still no points. It appears they just don't care and will say anything to get you off their case.
The way in which this hotel and its management have conducted themselves has turned me off ever staying at any Marriott anywhere again. Just yesterday I was looking at another location and decided against a hotel, as it was a Marriott.
Putting all of this aside, the hotel itself isn't that great either, poor check-in staff, painfully slow and overloaded lifts, room service that never arrived (and no suggestion of what I could order after the kitchen had closed, local Domino's is good though), small and dark rooms. There are a plethora of other hotels in Canberra, cannot encourage you enough to go and stay at one of those.
I'll be keen to see if they reply to this review, I'd hazard a guess they will. I'm sure the comment will be another apology and a suggestion that they thought the issue was resolved.

Firstly, the staff at this hotel are lovely, especially the staff in the restaurant. The front desk staff are welcoming and friendly.
The pool and sauna are great. The pool is narrow though and I can imagine it would be a bit cramped with a few people in it.
Hotel is very clean. The room was fairly small but very comfortable, quiet and had a roomy bathroom with a big shower. The TV was awesome. We loved how modern it is. The bed was so comfortable.
Very reasonably priced for what we got. The stocked mini bar was wonderful.
Our price included breakfast was lovely and generous to include two drinks, a main and a side.
Would definitely recommend.
The only downfall and I suppose this must be common with five star hotels was some of the snobby people we encountered who wouldn't smile at us in the lifts or acknowledge us. This isn't a reflection of the hotel though.
Thanks Midnight.

This hotel is located in a great spot on a major road into Canberra. It is about a 5 minute walk to Canberra City Shopping Centre - the major shopping and restaurant precinct and the light rail is out the front of the hotel. There are plenty of cafes and Restaurants to dine at in surrounding streets. The National Gallery, Questecon, Portrait Gallery, Lake Burley Griffin are only 5 minutes drive away.
The rooms are small and a rather large TV dominates. We had Rooms 609 and 610 which were "interconnecting" via a dual access key/ door. That is, there is main door which accesses two hotel rooms. It was great because our kids are aged 12 and 13 years but if you had toddlers, they would be hard to hear in the middle of the night. The beds here are like most Marriott hotels comfortable and cosy.
Room service is served in a black Rectangular wooden box with lid. Yes it's quirky, but the rectangle plate is awkward for cutting on. Amongst other things, we ordered the antipasto platter that was supposed to come with advertised cheese. It didn't, I called in room dining and complained to Oliver who kindly brought some up. The portion sizes are very small and do not represent value for money. In addition there is not 24 hour room service which is advertised on the web page, so do check if this service is up and running before you book. Breakfast in the restaurant downstairs was enjoyable however there is no breakfast cereal on offer if you have children. In addition , I made a request for a cheese sandwich for a child who has allergies and is fussy, this request was unfortunately declined by a male waiter.
The free mini bar was great and consisted of Anzac cookies, peanuts, a 350ml bottle of Shiraz and bottle of reisling, 2 ales, 2 blood orange Italian drinks, bottle of sparkling and still water. You are encouraged to clear the mini bar for a full refill each day. There are all the toiletries you expect from the Marriott group. There is also a free coffee pod machine which we found handy for that first cup of the day.
A huge shout out to the service received from Oliver at booking and at rectifying the antipasto issues. Oliver is a real asset to the hotel, he was warm, generous with advice, and very helpful. I wished we could have said thanks in person.

We didn’t really enjoy this hotel. We had a twin bed room and the beds were really tiny. It was a king bed divided in two but sometimes you get two king singles, these were standard singles and we didn’t sleep very well. The room was so very, very dark too. As someone else has mentioned, there is no natural light and this, coupled with the very dark decor and black tiles makes the room unpleasantly dark as well as small. Quite frankly we couldn’t wait to leave. On the plus side there is complimentary parking and a complimentary mini bar set up (which is very rare so kudos for that). There’s a restaurant downstairs which we didn’t use because the hotel is a block away from lots of restaurants and - preferring ramen on a cold night - we went there. We wouldn’t return, but others have obviously enjoyed it so perhaps it’s just us and a matter of preference.

From the moment you arrive you know you are welcome- the staff here is attentive and sincerely considerate. A two week stay away from Home is eased by the fabulous pool and adequate gym- easy access bar and restaurant with an interesting menu. Couple growing pains for international travelers but I recommend heartily staying here. Locations is perfect for restaurant choices, meeting friends or business associates, easy walk to the best local cafes, coffee, restaurants and town center attractions if you wish to explore. Rooms are spotless- drinking water abundant and in room refrigerator and complimentary snacks a huge bonus. WiFi is enough to do business work or contact home, safe in room to secure valuables convenient. Spacious bathrooms And delightful rainfall showers. You will not be disappointed. Meets every need with comfort and ease to focus on work or Family.

So , I'm a local and I do my research so I knew what to expect from this place. Its selling point is that its dark and atmospheric so that was the fun bit - the corridors are dark and the lights switch on as you walk up them which is kinda fun.
The rooms are all accessorised in darkish furnishings which again, I knew to expect as this is the hotel's selling point. Lots of Covid restrictions at the moment so this was a last minute staycation so rates were very reasonable and hotel was quiet. We slept well. The mini bar is "free" (not really of course, factored into the room price) but it does make you feel nice about the hotel -why don't more hotels do this? Make sure you read up about the art as I appreciated it more once I read about it all. There's no need to eat in house as Braddon is full of funky and fun places to eat within 5 minutes walk so get out and explore the neighbourhood.
I will add my one request that I make in every review that needs it. Please, please, please provide a toilet brush. When you share the room with someone, you like to leave it nice for them and even if travelling on your own, I don't think its the cleaning staff's job to do that kind of cleaning after me!
