Returned from long day sightseeing and disappointed to find room had not been serviced at all. Then discovered that aircon had stopped working and room was sweltering in the >40C heat. Staff were unable to relocate us to different room as we were told that whilst there were other rooms available none of them had been cleaned since they had been vacated. Staff were very apologetic and provided a fan to help but clearly the cleaners had let them down.

We stayed in a family room and the matress on the wall mounted bunk bed was extremely hard.

Apart from these issues the room was very good value and suited our needs for a short stay.

We visited Canberra, the capital of Australia, on a family trip over the Easter holiday and stayed at ibis Budget Canberra for 4 days and 3 nights.

ibis Budget Canberra is an Accor Hotels budget hotel located in the Watson area, approximately 7km from Canberra city centre.

On the day of my stay, I left Cairns in the afternoon and arrived in Canberra via Melbourne, so I was able to check in at the hotel around 8:15pm. I made the reservation and payment for the room in advance through a certain hotel reservation site, so I was able to check in smoothly by simply filling out the guest list and presenting my ID and credit card. Since I rented a car at Canberra Airport, I was happy to be able to use the parking lot on the hotel grounds for free during my stay.

The room types we used this time are 2 Single Beds and 1 Single bed. The beds were two-tiered, with a single bed on the top and two single beds on the bottom. Although the guest room is not very large at 12m2, it didn't feel cramped at all even when there were 3 people in it. A TV and a small refrigerator are installed around the desk at the back of the room. Additionally, the washbasin in the guest room is located outside the toilet/shower room, making it convenient for multiple people staying.

Free coffee and tea are provided in the rooms. The only toiletries provided are shampoo, body wash, and hand wash in the shower booth and sink; toothbrushes and razors are not provided.

Wi-Fi is available for free in the building, but depending on the time of day, the communication speed may drop or the connection may be disconnected.

A toasty or continental breakfast is served from 7:30am to 10am in the dining area next to the front desk. Reservations for breakfast are not required and payment will be made at the front desk upon arrival. The continental breakfast buffet costs $10 per person and includes bread/cereal, ham, yogurt, fruit cocktail, milk/juice, but hot drinks such as coffee and tea are available for an additional fee.

There is a convenience store with a gas station next to the hotel, but there are few cafes or restaurants in the area, so we recommend that you eat and shop within the city. Also, transportation from the Watson area where the hotel is located to the city is inconvenient, so if you plan to mainly use public transportation for sightseeing, it may be a good idea to stay at a hotel in the city center.

Friendly helpful staff. Near the main road, but the room was still quiet. Good breakfast. Free wifi. Free parking. Comfy bed. Heating/Air Con worked very well which was great as it was very cold. The bedroom is small but it's the same at every ibis budget in Australia. The lighting and power points could be better. However I would return

The staff her win our prize for the best, friendliest and most professional of any hotel we have stayed in over 25+ years travelling around the world for both work and holidays. The duty manager was exceptionally good. It's a budget hotel, but the staff are five star quality. We have experienced far less professional staff in much more expensive hotels worldwide. Yes, the rooms are basic and small, but clean and functional.

The room we got assigned to was a tiny and noisy room. Firstly, the room was located right next to the reception which was noisy. We could here them from the bed. Secondly, the room had minimal blankets and the top bunk bed only had a bed sheet and a thin blanket. It was 0 degrees in Canberra so it was freezing. On top of that, the toilet was tiny and was only about 1m squared. The shower was half broken and water only came out of half of the nozzle. The room was super wet even though our showers were only 2 minutes. Finally, the buffet only had a few choices and we had to sit out of the restaurant because there were only 5 tables between 100 rooms

This is my second multi day stay and it was again very good.
For budget accommodation you get the room serviced every day, how good is that. Nothing better after a long day out than a fresh looking room to return to.
$10 continental Becky is great with addition of pancakes, cheese and ham toasties and very good barista coffee.
Staff are pleasant and helpful both front and back of house.
Pleased to stay here anytime I am in the ACT. Bus to city just around the corner.

Good hotel. The room was a reasonable size considering that this is a budget hotel, the ensuite toilet and shower are small but adequate. It is a bit out of town but fine if you have a car (probably public transport is available nearby, I did not check). They don't have a restaurant but you can buy a frozen meal from reception and heat it in a microwave if you like (continental breakfast can also be bought, I didn't try it).

Wow what an amazing team. Professional but oh so friendly and happy to help. We have been coming here for 4 years now and I’ll be honest , we come because it’s cheap. This year however it is not just a cheap motel. It’s friendly and the changes that have been made in the breakfast area are well planned and effective in a small place. The young lady on the front counter makes you feel so welcome it’s like chatting with an old friend and the manager is just awesome. Couldn’t be more helpful and happy to have a chat with those that want too. Yes the rooms are simple but clean and the bed was comfortable. Well done team.

I never thought I would write a review, I have never done it before, but this one is worth my time spending. It was the most horrific stay and I wish no-one goes through such traumatic experience. We booked for 5 nights, stayed the first night at my partners insistence. After 13 hours of driving my partner was very tired and i too. We booked a Queen bed accommodation and were offered initially a king single bed that was best suited for people with disability, so we requested another one and was given a double bed with a bunk bed on top, we accepted there because we were told that the room that we booked was given to someone else. All their rooms are unclean, no chairs to sit on, a very dirty plastic stool, nothing was clean, there was a bug in the toilet, shower dirty, all rooms are very, very small, photos are deceiving. So, no ethics, no satisfactory customer service just right there. At time of going to bed I tried to get in bed but I did not notice the wooden bunk bed right in front of me and hit my head so hard that I nearly passed out. My forehead was very swollen and badly bruised! It was very late and when I went out to the Office which was just outside the room, there was no-one but most importantly there was no first aid kit or an emergency phone. The next day it was a Sunday and there was no Pharmacies opened.
I understand that it's a budget hotel and my partner wanted to stay closer to the convention he was going to; but there is total negligence, lack of duty of care, poor customer service, unclean, the list is endless.
The next day we asked for our refund because we were not going to stay one more night there, unfortunately it was prepaid and we had to get refunded; one of the remaining 4 days was refunded, the General Manager said that he organised 2 of them and to contact another booking agency for one of the days but we never got any refund, I did contact Expedia which he said has organised the refund for us but Expedia had no knowledge of such bookings, also the third agency, Webbed, had no record of the booking. I went through traumatic days also trying to contact all those agencies. I tried to call the hotel to explain my situation but never got an answer.
I am still unwell with the big bruise on my head and a sore eye after almost a month now. IT'S A HEALTH HAZARD! Keep away from them.
They are lucky I give them 1, this hotel deserves nothing.

I was just after a place to sleep while in Canberra, and this suited. Friendly and informed staff. Clean rooms but definitely basic, as price would suggest. Comfortable bed and good shower. Recommend earplugs if light sleeper as doors closing and talk in the hall travel...but with earplugs it was okay. Need a car to access city, but shops in Dickson are close and motel has basic meal options for microwave. Definitely worthy choice for traveller.

Hi there, We have our own car to. However public transport in and around Canberra is accessible. Look up transport in Canberra I'm sure Tripadvisor has a dedicated section for most major cities in Australia. Hope that helps.
