We had an amazing time at the Beach Village resort! The staff went above and beyond to accommodate us, booking our taxi to and from Bangkok. The resort is definitely more secluded, but still close to a small grocery store and traditional market with lots of delicious Thai foods to try. The coconut restaurant at the resort also had great food and a really large variety to pick from, ranging from Western to Thai. The resort is mostly older people, giving it a very relaxed vibe. There are adorable beach bars a short bike or walk away. If you're a nature lover, it's definitely a wonderful place to visit! We went on a morning trip arranged by the resort to the freshwater wetlands at sunrise which was AMAZING!!! We also visited the famous national park with a temple inside a beautiful cave and very secluded beach (and some wild monkeys :)). Overall very impressed with the hospitality of the staff and beauty of the area!

This is a lovely Resort to spend some time at. The rooms are generous with extra large sleeper bed to accommodate extra family. The pool is great for kids as ours just had a fantastic time spending every hour they could at the pool. Breakfasts were lovely, but the ordering was a bit misunderstood by the staff, who were local people & our language skills weren't quite up to local standard so we did get a few things mixed up. Beautiful place to stay.

We booked this by mistake and fell in love straight away and booked an extra night. We were upgraded to a poolside villa. There are 6 villas around quite a large pool. No one else here so we had the pool to ourselves. Rooms are well appointed and have hairdryer, tea and coffee, mini bar and cable TV etc. Free Wi-Fi. It is low season so very quiet and private. Even a roof top area on each villa. The village itself is how I imagine Cha Am probably was 15 years ago. Magical paradise!

/// Arriving at hotel: Score 1/5 ///
Arriving at night the hotel was almost impossible to find. Spend half an hour in the area looking and asking locals. Finally found a sign on a junction near the coast road near the Dolphin hotel which pointed 300m inland. This sign itself had tiny text and was almost useless. They need a big simple arrow and 'The Beach Village' not a glorified advert with tiny text and logo.
Even within the hotel compound there is no signage showing directions like In and out. You can even get lost inside the first time!
Next day, in daylight, we bumped into another potential guest at a beach restaurant lost and also looking for the hotel :-)
/// Rooms: Score 3/5 ///
Clean and plain but certainly not as well furnished as the website photos suggest.
Bed, pillows and linen not lush but comfortable (maybe slightly hard for westerners).
Tables were not close to plug points, had to move the table and chairs to use a laptop.
Internet was a reasonable speed and access points speed throughout compound.
Those seeking total peace and quiet may want to avoid this hotel during peak season as the rooms face a shared pool 4 meters from the rooms door. Some may like it for this though but not the majority I bet. No simple room-service - no phones in room and no menus although the room guide suggests to call reception for room service.
/// Bathrooms: Score 1/5 (Hazardous) ///
first apartment bathroom smelt strongly of sewage due to design of drains. They accepted a room swap request and second apartment ok.
Both bathrooms were wet rooms with poor drainage (floors not sloped to drain) Dangerous and no floor mop or squeegee supplied.
No shelves for toiletries and no soap or shampoo holder in shower.
/// Staff: Score 3/5 ///
Service staff talked very loudly near apartments in morning and breakfast waitress looked tired and unresponsive and did not replenish the buffet adequately.
Front Desk Receptionist was pleasant and helpful thankfully.
Management: No management visible from what we experienced I imagine this is the first time they have run a hotel/resort because of the lack of attention to detail.
/// Breakfast: Score 2/5 ///
Generic breakfast foods more akin to a cheap business hotel than a tropical vacation resort. Cheap sausage & preserves and canned juice. In Thailand fresh juice is relatively cheap. Filter coffee was not great. They need to cover the buffet items to avoid flies. Need a few pastries, rolls or muffins on there too. Increase the price if necessary.
/// Dinner: Score 4/5 ///
Daily specials board never changed (Just Thai Curry but fixed meats per colour of curry. Usually they say Green/Red/Yellow in Chicken, Pork, Beef for more flexibility.)
Evening chef was good and taste authentic.
Selection of Thai food was not extensive. Phad Thai was very tasty and well presented.
Lots of western choices (who wants that in Thailand :-)
Wine is expensive in Thailand but the menu overpriced it more considering such a limited selection.
/// Likelihood to Return: Score 2/5 ///
The hotel is in a relaxed quiet area and has potential but the lack of detailed finishing and convenience within the apartments is a negative. Not likely to go back.
/// Tips to management and owners: ///
They should push to make improvements and finish the place. Welcome drink, scent in apartments & public areas and more atmospheric music would be a start (not a generic droning vocal cover cd). There are many good value options in Thai hotels so the standards need to be higher to get repeaters. They should also create a proper spa area, not just use a temporarily modified apartment. Not a great choice of restaurants in the local area. They could capitalise on this by improving their range of Thai offerings and making room-service more easy and skipping the delivery charge. Restaurant seating is limited especially indoor seating with aircon (and no mosquitos) Make some signposts! Big arrow... 'The Beach Village', "Exit", "Reception" in Helvetica is fine!

I would give The Beach Village a 4.5 out of 5. I think if you have realistic expectations - you are in Thailand, and very seldom will you get the highest level of service or have things work like they might at home in the West - you can be very happy at The Beach Village. I lived in Thailand when I was younger, and traveling frequently and widely is a big part of my life. Sometimes I stay in pricier places; sometimes budget accommodations. My wife and I love the chaotic energy of Bangkok, and we got that our first week in March. But then it was time for the beach! And this time we chose a very scenic part of Thailand (Sam Roi Yot) that offered peace and quiet, a romantic vibe and a chance to get out and explore the islands and mountains. After weeks and weeks of looking at options on TripAdvisor, we made a decision to go with The Beach Village. And we got our money's worth, and more. The two ladies that worked the front counter and management (a gentleman, in particular) were very kind, knowledgeable and helpful. I can't overstate that. I felt they really appreciated our business and that they cared that we had good time and were comfortable. Our villa was clean and had all the amenities you would want. The saltwater pool was by far my favorite surprise, along with the coconut grove adjacent to the property, from which you could hear birds, frogs and perhaps monkeys. Fascinating. I got in the pool each day, especially at night, and it was therapeutic and soothing. We also loved the free bicycles. Every day we enjoyed rides up and down front beach road. Since we didn't have a car and didn't want to rent a motorcycle, the bikes were fabulous, and a great way to stay in shape! Another plus - and I say this because of the frustrations you can have researching online - is that the resort's photos and travelers' photos matched what I saw with my own eyes! Whenever it doesn't, I feel a bit disappointed. But there was no disappointment with The Beach Village on that front! And then there's the value for your money. Coming from the USA, a similar accommodation would be 3x what we paid. So if you want a classy place for a very good price, truly hard to beat The Beach Village. We even extended our stay an additional night! Looking back -and this was not even a month ago, so it's still fresh on our minds - the one area where the resort could make improvements is their restaurant, Coconuts. The menu could be improved quite a bit in terms of taste, portion sizes and price. Also, our waitress seemed a bit unenthusiastic. Could have just been a bad day for her! That said, resort management is on site, available and plugged into everything that's going on. and my instincts tell me that they are eager to continue making The Beach Village a better, more efficient place. Oh, I forgot to mention the tours! We went on two that were arranged through the resort, and we had an incredible time. I have a youtube channel, Major Allen Espy, and I have already uploaded several videos of the resort and our activities while we were there. I also operate a travel blog, Ballyhoo, under that same name (Major Allen Espy). In coming weeks I will add some videos, photos and commentary to my blog. Check it out.

Dear Major E. Thank you very much for your great and inspiring words and sharing our experience with other travellers. This is highly appreciated. We all do our utmost to full fill the need of our guests and from your review I can understand we almost succeeded:-). Very sorry to hear about your experience in our restaurant - its normally the department we get the best feed back from. So...I believe your waitress must have had a bad day, which I sincerely apologise. Hope we will get the chance to make it up another time. We would be happy to welcome you back. Thanks for sharing great videos on You tube. Warm regards from all of us at The Beach Village Anne

This is a pure paradise, and the hotel offers huge houses as rooms, newly build and to high standards all over,located in a beautiful tropical paradis garden,and area, only with a few minutes walk to the beach.
The resort offers marveles 5 star services such as restaurant,dubble bar,massage and the services and staff are just fantastic,so is the food served.
Really a place where you constatly wants to return to time after time and where you get incredible high value for money.

One nights visit to this super good resort! Have nothing bad to say about it. Rented a studio room close to the resturant. More than we expected! Do it!
Close to the beach. And the free bicycles to the beach takes like 3 minutes. Also good small resturants down the beach.

We spent 2 weeks in May at the Beach Village. The house and the surrounding areas are wonderfull. We would especially send our thanks to the staff in the Coconut Restaurant, as they are sweet, helpful and makes the most fantastic Thai food. We also enjoyed Jack, when we toured the area for visits to Hua Hin, Koi Buri nationalpark etc.
There is a lot of beautiful birds to be seen from the Resort and the wild elephants in the nationalpark is a must see.
We came for relaxing and luxury - and we found it here. Try it!

I have been going to Beach Village Resort (now called Away Beach Village Resort for some unfathomable reason) for about three years. I took many of my family and friends there over many visits although I live with my Thai partner only about 35 km away.
When we first started going to Beach Village, the resort was nearly new. The rooms and pool areas were well cared for and well maintained, the main building with the old restaurant and breakfast area and games room were just lovely. In particular, the grounds were well maintained and could be used for sports and play. That was the way Beach Village was as recently as early 2014 and we all loved it that way.
I last stayed at Beach Village with my partner and a friend just a few days ago. Oh my what a change there has been!!! The rooms are not now well maintained (we had to ask three times for the door lock to be fixed; on the first two visits it was "Thai-fixed" which translates as not fixed), the pool in H wing was losing tiles which had not been replaced and, most importantly, the beautiful central building with the restaurant etc had been demolished for no reason that I can possibly guess. In its place, a thatched hut is currently being constructed. This does not and will not look anything near as nice as the old building and it could potentially be a serious fire hazard particularly in the Thai dry season which is in fact most of the year.
Add to that the fact that the grounds are now not well maintained at all and nowadays you have a huge disappointment.
No, I shall not be going back to Beach Village again, even if the name is changed back to that. It is now very over-priced for what it is. We were so disappointed this time that we asked if we could leave after the first of two booked night. The answer predictably in Thailand was no so we stayed the two nights and I had one too many drinks to try to forget the disappointment that Beach Village is these days.
I can only guess that it's been taken over by Thais who have neglected all the things that used to make this place special when it was run by Danes.
Summary - very expensive, neglected, tired, poorly maintained grounds, pools and rooms not well looked after. A shadow of its former self.

Responded 7 Sept 2015
Dear jmvscotland, Thank you very much for your time in writing this valuable review for us. Let me start by personally apologizing for the inconvenience these issues may have caused you. We apologies that our service was not up to our usual standard. As part of our property upgrade we are currently rebuilding the main restaurant, after it was damaged during a storm. This project will be finished by the end of this month. It is important for us to not only have great service provided by our team but to ensure that the product is also being delivered with the same quality. We acknowledge that we did not meet the standard promised when fixing your door lock and for that I apologies. I have addressed the issues with the proper departments to ensure we do not have issues like this again. My team and I would like to thank you again for writing these valuable incidents that have come across your stay and apologies. Thank you very much for your time. Best regards Aim Management Team

Beautiful hotel with lovely peaceful pool area and very quiet. It's just 3 step from my room. Stayed for 1 night in March and it was very quiet and peaceful. The deck covered by canvas roof is very nice view. So, you can see the sunset above Sam Roi Yod Mountain.
Breakfast and Dinner is simply presentation but very good taste. And all staff at the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. But if have music on dinner might be better.
Overall a fantastic resort for a relaxing break.
