Yavapai Lodge earns mixed reviews for its value, with some guests praising the affordability and proximity to the Grand Canyon, while others point out the high costs relative to quality. The variety of amenities, including dining options and wildlife encounters, is well-received, although some facilities may seem dated. A majority of guests commend the cleanliness and ideal location near scenic spots, despite occasional housekeeping oversights. The lodge's atmosphere strikes a balance between modern and rustic, and while the rooms are generally comfortable, a few visitors suggest updates are needed. Service is predominantly complimented for its friendliness, despite some reports of sporadic understaffing.

This turned out to be a great experience for our family. The rooms were equipped like any comparable hotel. Wifi is limited to the lodge building so we took board games and our boys made friends playing the games with other kids in the restaurant. We found the beds to be very comfortable and the rooms clean. We went in winter with recent snowfall so it was nice to park upon arrival and not use the car until we left. Shuttle buses take you everywhere. We hiked to the village and found it to be busy and crowded compared to Yavapai. Additionally, the market, across from the Yavapai lodge is a full grocery store so one can find breakfast or lunch options if you don't want to visit the lodge restaurants for every meal.
If you stay outside the park you will likely wait in a long line every day to enter the park then fight for parking spaces

All the rooms are a drive or long walk from Registration and the Market. They really pack people in here, although we were OK with the ability to socially distance and the noise of so many people was not a big problem. It was definitely cheaper than other options for a family of 5 who had to fit into sleeping in 2 beds. The carpet did not seem that clean (it is older) so instead of the 5th person sleeping on the floor they squeezed into a bed. The bathroom layout was OK in that the toilet and shower are in a separate room with a door, and the sink is in an outer room so that one can brush their teeth while another is using the toilet or the shower which is good. The biggest drawback is that they do not allow microwaves. They say that is a US Park Service regulation...eventually I will confirm whether that is true or not. How can the use of a microwave be against fire regulations??? And they could not add a rollway cot either because of fire regulations.Hmmm. But it was cheaper than our other alternatives to stay in the Park. And because we stayed in the Park I was able to go out every hour to look at the view. There was a snowstorm when we arrived which was cool but kept us inside more than what we would normally do. The shuttle service operated full time on all days we were there but not out to Desert View after the snow storm because the roads were icy. TIP: at first we found out about a microwave in the very back of the Market by the meat department (OK so why even sell stuff that needs to be heated up?????) but then later we found out that there was a microwave available in the Yavapai Lodge at all hours so once we found that out, we drove there to heat up our food rather than pay the prices for the food at the Market. It really saved us a lot of money to do that but how inconvenient to either drive the food back to the unit by that time it was cold or bring the whole fam out to the Lodge to heat up and eat food on our laps. But that is what we did to save money.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We are happy to hear you had a nice time here in the park, and apologize for the inconveniences of having the restaurant closed. Unfortunately there are still many restrictions in place due to covid health and safety rules and we are doing our best to provide other options to our guest in this short period of time until things resume back to normal. We appreciate the input you have shared and hope you have a great 2021.

Based upon this being rated the #1 Best Value lodging within the park, we booked our stay for two nights here. The front desk staff provided friendly service and the room was definitely clean. Yavapai implemented higher cleaning standards in light of what’s happening right now in the world with the COVID-19 pandemic, which we definitely appreciate; all areas that may be touched by guests like door handles, remotes, light switches, thermostats, etc are deep cleaned prior to each guest’s arrival. All employees wore masks.

The room and furniture and fixtures within the room were well-maintained. The property is spread out (I believe it’s the largest complex within the Grand Canyon Park) and it was quiet.

The price was reasonable.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The only three gripes that I have about the stay and these are minor, but worth mentioning: WiFi service was spotty in our room and the bathroom sink was small (we didn’t have room to put any of our toiletries out) and the bathroom faucet sprayed water everywhere every time we turned it on.

All in all, we agree with the majority of reviewers when it comes to rating this a #1 best value place to stay. We’d stay here again if we come back to the Grand Canyon and would recommend it to others who are thinking about staying on a property within the park.

I was very pleasantly surprised when we got to our room. Lovely updated room, but the bathroom you could tell hadn't been updated. But it was clean, the beds are huge, the pillows are so snuggly. Great forest view out of our window. One downside.... the cleaners do come quite early on. We had the do not disturb sign on there .... but it can be quite noisy with people coming and going.
WiFi is hit and miss, facilities are brilliant, staff are lovely.... I just couldn't eat the food, but that's not the fault of the restaurants. I have even struggled to eat a McDonald's (sorry usa.... think my taste buds are stuck on british)

We spent 5 nights here, could probably have done all we wanted to in less, but the altitude turned us out the first couple of days, so that's something to think of.

We visited Yavapai in October because it’s nicely situated in the park. This is its saving grace.

The rooms have no coffee pots, and if you want to cash in on your complimentary coffe coupons, you’ll stand in a line at the General Store Deli or Lodge office for 20 minutes to an hour or more (especially on Sunday mornings.)

There’s nary a microwave in sight—rooms have fridges, but no way to heat up food or make popcorn, which is a shame if you’re visiting with family and plan a movie night or game night after you’ve come in from stargazing on the rim (which, by the way, is unparalleled.)

Bedding is thin and older, but adequate.

Plumbing issues plagued us—one night the bathtub coughed up detritus and left little sludge piles scattered all
Over the floor and sides it’s surface. Fortunately, staff responded quickly, but my son and his wife experienced a non-draining tub in their room and had to spend an evening waiting for maintenance to fix it.

Staff tended to be sullen and unhelpful. When asking for an extra few washcloths and a bath towel, the room cleaner questioned me why I needed these things and very reluctantly meted out 2 washcloths and one towel. In acquiring another roll of toilet paper, I was afraid we may have had to sign over a promissory note to exchange one of our kidneys for the luxury of a new roll of the one-ply.
(Note: The maintenance men who fixed the plumbing were helpful, cheerful and approachable.)

There’s no place to sit and eat on the grounds—or in your room. Our room had only a small desktop with a lamp on it to use as an eating surface, and there are no picnic tables to be found. I understand the possible danger to wildlife, but offering a few places outside to enjoy the beautiful pines and juniper did not seem beyond the pale. If you’re lucky enough to grab a table outside the General Store, you can enjoy outdoor dining, and you can take advantage of the Tavern’s patio as well. Otherwise—you’re doomed to eating your I toasted/unwarned breakfast bagel standing up while washing it down with a soda or a cup of tap water.

Wifi is sparse and slow. I get it. You’re in nature and you’re supposed to be unplugging and relaxing. Still—you have to check into your flight info and other vital material (now that we’re working more from home, some emergency work situations come up that must be dealt with in a timely manner.) Stuff comes up, even when you’re perched on the rim of one of the world’s seven natural wonders.

The Yavapai’s saving grace is that it is situated in the park and is basically on the Rim Trail. There are supplies for sale nearby, and elk frolic everywhere. But for comfort in the park, you need to look elsewhere.

My family and I throughly enjoyed our stay at the Yavapai East lodge. The beds were very comfortable and the room was very clean. The lodges are conveniently located to the Market Plaza which has a great grocery store which offers a variety of fresh foods and packaged foods. There is also a variety of souvenirs and and camping and hiking gear. The Yavapai Lodge has a restaurant and offers great options for food and has a coffee/ice cream place as well. There are water refilling stations all through the park but 2 are located in the General Store and the Yavapai Lodge so you can refill your water bottles instead of buying more. We loved how instead of mini bottles of shampoo and conditioner and the usual bar of soap, they provided toiletries that were multi-use. The location is great and is about a 1/4 mile from the rim of the canyon and trails. There are also buses that run every 15 minutes to take you to the other areas in the park. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are able to come.

Overall we had a good experience staying at Yavapai Lodge for 4 nights when visiting the Grand Canyon this Fall. Easy check in and check out at the Main Lodge Building down the road. Room was simply furnished but was clean, spacious and comfortable. We were in Building 2 East on the second floor. No issues with noise or barking dogs. Plenty of parking near the building. Spotty and weak WiFi service in the room which is clearly noted when booking the room. Location has it's pros and cons. Sort of located off by itself away from the action in Grand Canyon Village but some might see this as a plus for more solitude. There is the Market nearby providing food and shopping. The Visitor Center is also nearby, about a 2 minute drive as is the parking area for Yavapai Point although you really can't easily walk anywhere in under 20 minutes. The Blue Shuttle isn't running during Covid but we were able to drive and park over in the Village when needed without much trouble although the Park was quite empty the days we were there. Having the Shuttle circulating during normal times would make the remote location less of an issue. We chose here as it represented great value being priced much lower than similar rated lodges in the Village and we were happy with our decision.

Inside the park a few minutes walk from the South Rim, though not as close as Maswik lodge, an excellent location. However, the rooms were a bit tired, especially for the price, with only buffet options available for food in the main building. There was a big store so we stocked up. No internet, except in the lobby, and even then, it barely worked. There was so much snow when we were there we had to drive a very long way round, so they kindly let us leave a day early, no problem - refunded. IT's all about the location though, and if that's all that matters you'll probably forgive the general 'scout camp' feel of the place.

The Lodge is made up of multiple buildings set in a rustic pine wood setting. In February, the air is crisp and cool but sun is plentiful. The rooms are old but well maintained and off season are a bargan - lwss than $150 per night. Very quiet and peacful, a ten minute walk from the south rim with a spetacular view.

We were very happy with our room. It's an older, basic space that has clearly been taken care of. Bathroom flooring was on the new side and the room was clean--small but comfortable. Parking and check in was easy. We would definitely stay again.

If you're wondering if staying in the park is worth it, it is! Do not waste your time staying in Tusayon or farther out when perfectly comfortable lodging is available inside the park that will let you easily take in sunrises and sunsets in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Only drawback was that housekeeping kept knocking on our door every 15 minutes the morning we were scheduled to check out. I understand they're trying to get rooms cleaned in a limited amount of time but we weren't late checking out and it's kind of annoying to have to repeatedly stop people from coming in your room when you're showering and packing up.
