Sandals South Coast garners praise for its inviting atmosphere, with guests frequently lauding the lively entertainment and tranquil spots nestled amidst beautiful decor. While some guests have encountered issues with housekeeping and maintenance, the majority appreciate the comfortable and detail-oriented rooms. The attentive service at the hotel is often highlighted, contributing to memorable stays.
Although the resort's amenities, including pristine pools and engaging activities, are well-received, a few travelers mention a shortage of chairs and consider the resort to be somewhat overpriced, especially for spa and excursion services. The location's scenic tranquility is celebrated, yet its distance from the airport and subpar swimming conditions are noted drawbacks.

This is a review of our trip to Sandals South Coast from December 2nd to 12th, 2024. We stayed in the Rondoval room (RSUP), 4710. This was a trip we booked on property in Ocho Rios in 2022. This was our first time to South Coast but 14th time to Sandals resort and 6th Sandals resort we have stayed at.
Travel to resort
We travelled from Canada, using Air Canada. Our flight was a little delayed but the fight was fine. Getting through the airport is not hard. Just follow the rest of the people. If you completed the immigration form online, you just have to go to the kiosk, scan your passport and get your picture taken to get a form printed. You will proceed to the luggage collection then a customs desk. Brief questions from a customs officer then down the hall with your luggage then left to the Sandals lounge. We were able to get on a bus leaving in 10 minutes. Still enough time to relieve yourself (do it) and grab some snacks at the lounge. We got on a large bus that would hold 20-25 people but is wasn’t full. The route there is bumpy in places and the driver seems to want you to get to the resort as quick as possible. If you have a weak stomach, don’t sit in the back. It will take about 90 minutes to get to the resort.
Room
We are met at the resort by the staff with a cool towel and drink. Your luggage will be put to the side to be delivered to your room. We were met by our butler, Tevar or better know as “Poppa Smurf”, who took us to our room. He showed us around the room, gave us a phone to contact him or the second butler, Kevin. There was a bottle of champagne and some snacks in the room to celebrate our arrival at the resort. The room is large with a big soaker tub for 2. The shower has 2 showerheads for different spray. There is a large sink with 2 faucets so no waiting and a makeup mirror so either one can get prepped for dinner without waiting. There is a hairdryer included in the room. Standard type hair dryer. The room has a plunge pool that can be accessed directly from the room or from the patio. The water is cool but you can get adjusted to it. The patio looks out to pool that wraps around the entire rondoval complex. We have a table and chairs inside and outside so you can snack, read or drink. There were 2 lounge chairs that sit in the water and there were 2 floaters for our room. If you have this room, make sure you do the float parade with your neighbours. The housekeeper kept the room amazingly clean. Lots of towels and replenished supplies. Even the turndown service (around 6:30) kept everything looking great. We made sure they were highlighted on GINA.
Butlers
We usually book Club level but these rooms come with butlers. As I mentioned earlier, we had Tevar, Poppa Smurf, and Kevin, Grandpa Smurf, for our butlers. They took very good care of us. We are not big drinkers but they made sure we have lots of fluids in our room, as well as at our chairs. They had all our dinners booked before we got there. We were able to change the restaurants and times with them as long as we did it the day before. Flexibility on both parts. They made sure we had our chairs on the beach or by the pool, with a cooler full of water and juices. We were brought food for lunch and snacks to our room. They did surprise us with lobster tails for lunch or shrimp for snacks. We were taken to our dinners and brought us to the front of the lines. When we went off property, they made sure security knew about our visitors. We have had butlers at other Sandals resorts but Tevar and Kevin have set the new standard.
Property
The property is very large but easily walkable. Not big hills but you can get turned around sometimes with some of the paths. Most of the restaurants are close to the main pool. The property is well kept with someone working on something, trees, flowers, walkways, etc. When we arrived, there was a nice cool breeze coming off the ocean so the grounds were too hot. At night it was comfortable to walk around. There are some areas that don’t have a lot of light so you can see the stars at night. Get a star map app for your phone and you can see the stars at night. This year was Venus and Jupiter. One night, we sat on the patio with a drink, just to look at the stars. Everyone was friendly that we met. Just a smile and hello makes a difference. The beach is nice for walking and it is very long. They were working on the overwater bungalows so you could not go farther down the beach. As you enter the water, there is a lot of sea grass so you should wear water shoes in the water. I didn’t go far in the water as the sand felt more like mud. From the docks, wedding chapel and Latitudes, you can see various sea creatures, such as fish, crabs and starfish.
Food
The food was okay. There wasn’t too much that stood out for me except on the last night. We tried all the restaurants. Each place had its own ups and down. You will not go hungry here and there are lots of choices to choose from. We settled on Bayside for breakfast. It is buffet but you can have as much or as little as you want. Eleanors’ and Schooners have the a la carte breakfasts, with Schooners having the view of the ocean for the morning. You can grab a crepe and coffee at Café de Paris for the light fare. We only used room service for breakfast on our last day due to time but they messed up on our order of croissants and banana bread. We got 2 croissants with no butter or jam and 2 muffins. The best meal was at Bayside. They had just starting serving dinner at Bayside for the last couple of nights we were there. The shrimp cocktail was tasty with the Marie-Rose sauce. They made a good mistake with my plate. I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu, that was supposed to be served with rice pilaf, but was served with Au Gratin Potatoes. Very tasty. My wife loved the Lobster Thermador at Bayside as well. Also, the Chicken Dippers were really good. Enjoy the ice cream at Café de Paris. You can always walk the property for an extra scoop. We saw an amazing server (Everton) at Giuseppe’s. My wife was interested in the risotto del Giomo (Green pea) but not that flavour. She wanted shrimp and bacon and he made it happen. The table next to us were hoping for fried calamari but it wasn’t served in the Italian restaurant. The same waiter ordered some Neptune’s and brought it to their table. A little thing can make the trip more enjoyable. This was definitely reported on GINA.
Entertainment
There was entertainment every night. Sometimes outside but usually a show in the Le Cabaret. We took in some of the circus show but we didn’t watch too many shows. Do catch the singer who preforms in front of Eleanor’s and the Silver Birds. The Silver Birds play steel drums but have a lot of energy in their shows.
Off Property
We did not take any excursions offered at the resort. We had family come pick us up and took us back to their house. You will get to see Jamaica. There is nothing too close to the resort for shopping. We did go to the YS Falls. It is about 40 minutes from the resort. It is a pretty place to visit. You can swim in the water or the pools. You can swing in to the water from rope swings or use the zipline. There is a restaurant and gift shop on site. It is not as big as Dunn's River Falls but it has less of the tourists and the gantlet run of the gift huts. The Black River is close by the YS Falls too.
Travel from resort
The travel back from the resort to the airport was nicer. We did not have the former race car driver taking us to the airport. We have to leave 2 hours before the 3 hours required at the airport. Realize that there are limited routes from South Coast to Montego Bay. If the road is washed out, blocked or some other reason making unpassable, you could spend hours getting the airport and may miss your flight. It has happened before and Sandals had to take of the passengers until the next day. Getting through check in and security was easy. We did get Club Mobay for departure. Quick pass through security and into the lounge. We were directed to a location that we could watch planes land or take off. There was small snack food buffet with jerk chicken, salads, small sandwiches and other hot/cold bites. There were servers that brought your drinks to your seat and keep the area clean. It was very busy there.
Overall
Our experience at the resort was a lot of fun. We had a really good time. Our butlers worked hard to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. We were not short of anything that we needed. We met some very nice people, both who work there and who were visiting. Visit the gift shop for Moulton. She was great. We like the layout of the resort. Of course, our room was amazing. It was a dream room that we may not do again. We have booked for 2026 but in a Club room. We worked with the Loyalty desk and got to see a couple of rooms before deciding on our next trip. Yes, booking on site will save you some money, especially over a couple of years, but do some research on the property you want to visit and the room you want, so you know you are getting a deal.

Sandals South Coast is a beautiful resort set aside from the hustle and bustle of Montego Bay. Our time there was relaxing and the resort was not overcrowded. We tried every restaurant and all of the food was excellent. We highly recommend Neptunes (Casandra was an incredible server) and Eleanor's breakfast which requires no reservation (only for the dinner) was my wife's favorite. Giuseppe's antipasto bar was frequented to the point that the staff knew us by name. One of the shining stars of the resort was the ultra talented musicians that they employ. We were blessed to experience the live performances of a solo violinist, an impressive quintet with a lead saxophone that will blow your mind, a steel drum group that brings the Jamaican flair, and some absolute powerhouse singers (Abby was a favorite of ours). We opted for one of the Butler Elite suits. The room was amazing, with a balcony that had a soaking tub overlooking the ocean. The shower had 4 shower heads and was larger than the shower we have at home. With that said, our butlers Chris and Jodi were nothing short of phenomenal! Chris welcomed us from the moment we arrived with white gloves and took us on a tour prior to showing us our room. My wife and I loved how responsive and easy going Jodi and Chris were. We even put them through the ringer when we wanted an almost impossible reservation and Jodi was able to make it happen. Another highlight was when we mentioned that we were slightly disappointed that we missed out on the Jamaican food day due to exploring the YS Falls. Chris made sure that he personally made ox tails and cow foot soup for us at the resort the very next day for lunch. Sandals resorts are all beautiful in their own right. This location was a solid 90 minutes from Montego Bay which did make for a more relaxed vibe which we wanted. The only thing that I would change about the trip is that I would not pay the additional expense for private shuttle to and from the resort. The drivers were fantastic and loved that we dove into their culture, but the cost was too much to recommend. In conclusion, South Coast was charming. The staff was outstanding, the food was delicious, and the entertainment was stellar. We hope to return in the next year or two.

Your detailed praise for our dining options, from Eleanor’s breakfasts to Giuseppe’s antipasto bar, truly highlights the culinary delights we aim to offer. We’re especially pleased that Chris and Jodi went above and beyond to provide exceptional service, including creating a personalized Jamaican lunch after your adventure to YS Falls. Clean and friendly resort. A few things to be prepared for. If you don’t have Butler service don’t expect to get a chair at the pool unless you get out before 6am (chairs at beach are not super bountiful either). There is no buffet option for dinner (that’s ok, but you are regulated to a menu). Bring your own hand wash as there are no dispensers anywhere, Lastly, not a lot of Sandy bottom water to wade around in. These are not criticisms, but something we didn’t know before our trip.

The hotel & grounds are lovely. We were welcomed and upgraded which was lovely thank you. although club level is a little wasted on us as we don't really drink in our room as we like to be at the bars, but it was handy for room service, which we ordered afternoon coffee & cookies as it was too far to walk to the coffee shop and back, especially the mixed weather we had. The outside bath wasn't used, as although the idea is nice to have a bath looking out on the wonderful view, I don't think Jamaica was ready to see us naked LOL.
The room itself was nice but when you looked closely it was very dusty - the bedside lamps and bedframe had a noticeably amount of dust and the rug was very bitty. The console where the tv and fridge were was in need of replacement. The ceiling fan squeaked constantly so we were sleep deprived (the air con was a lot noisy so that wasn't an option). Housekeeping was excellent the first 3 days, the room was cleaned and replenished in the morning, but after that housekeeping would come around 4pm which was no good as we were back in the room having a siesta or getting ready to go out. On turndown they only left one towel. My medication Co-codomol was taken from my room - very disappointing.
The resort is huge, the accommodation is on one side and the restaurants are on the other. There are no buggies that will pick you up, these are only for staff and butler level, which is a shame.
The restaurants...... Jasmines - excellent, food & service 10/10 we ate there 4 times and a really nice touch was the chef came out and spent time chatting to us. The salmon was amazing. Neptunes _ poor - service is so slow and the food was just ok - we didn't get to desert as we had been in there for 2 hours! Bayside - we only ate once at lunch - very canteen like - we didn't go back. Schooners - we had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. service 10/10 even when the electrics went in the storm! Eleanors - We had breakfast & dinner x3 service and food was good. Service got worse towards the end of our stay for some reason, the food was slow to come out. Cafe de Paris - lovely for lattes and hot chocolate & cookies, crepes. Jerk Shack - nice - could do with more shade as it is outside dining.
Plenty of sunbeds and towels around the pools and on the beach. The beach is lovely and so is the sea. I am a beach person and after reading negative reviews I was a little apprehensive but the sea is sandy, it is not clear water, but it is sandy underneath and we never came across anything on foot.
The entertainment was spread out and if you are not looking at the app you will miss it! If you want the Jamaican good stuff surprisingly the staff a selling it.
All in all we had a lovely holiday but it wasn't amazing and we wouldn't return. I was expecting more Jamaican food and vibe and unfortunately we could have been anywhere here. Our first Sandals was Grenada which I think we may have been spoilt, as the food, service, cleanliness and vibe was excellent and after a 10 hr journey the hotel was 10 mins away. However, although the bus journey took 2 hrs to the airport, the bus driver was very informative and a lovely chap.

Chose Sandals following recommendation. The experience was okay but in no way amazing.
The room was good and functional but tired. About half way through our two week visit the basin taps stopped working. They were fixed the same day. Fixtures and fittings loose… just due a refurb. Unfortunately on all but 2days out of the first 10 we returned to the room after 4pm and it hadn’t been cleaned. On the days it was cleaned it was not restocked with milk, teabags or cold drinks. It’s frustrating to have to phone the reception lobby every day.
Water sports were included and fun, but after a week 2/4 sail boats were unusable and no sign of being repaired. The water sports seemed to shut up after lunch, often the wind had picked up which is fair enough, but on other days the red flag went up here while everywhere else along the beach was green flagged… and water sports such as sailing would have been safe.
The food varied tremendously. The first visit to Schooners the specialist seafood restaurant (booking required) was disappointing. The food was dry. The daily buffet was okay, and the daily theme each lunchtime offered enough variety. Breakfast in Eleanor’s was excellent as was the evening meal (booking required). Both Jasmines (Asian) and Giuseppe’s (Italian) provided good quality evening meals and the lunchtime pizzas at Giuseppe’s were a healthy size (not stupidly large and freshly cooked). Food at Neptune (late night snack bar) was okay but they weren’t ready for customers until 30min after 10pm opening time. Fast food outlets Tenders (chicken) and Jerk Shack were not great. A lot of food was quite dry.
Bars were okay. It’s worth going to the garden bar for good service, especially from the beach.
Staff were mostly friendly and attentive, but the organisation and management seemed not to be working well enough to deliver basic expectations.
If you ask and reach out the team delivered… but with a 5* hotel you shouldn’t need to ask in the first place.
Highlight… the location and inclusion of water sports and fitness centre. Gardening staff work hard to keep site tidy. The Restroom staff were excellent.
Lowlight… having to ask for the room to be cleaned and towels or drinks to be left most days. Beach was the place to spend the day but loungers need replacing… lots were broken or damaged. Loungers around pool superior but covered in towels by 0800🤷🏼♂️ which is annoying as some remained unoccupied all day.
Overall … incredibly average

Sandal review Twice now my wife and I have traveled to Sandals south Coast the first time was a short visit 4 day three nights in the Butler swim up one bedroom suite. As was this last time although we stayed for 7 night this last time. Yes, we are going back to Sandals next year for another 7 nights this time we will try Sandals in Montego Bay. If you think an all-inclusive resort is expensive you might want to rethink that thought. Both my wife and I really enjoy the having the Butler option added to our stay. It may not be for everyone. Having a Bob Markey or a signature Pina-colada served poolside when have a thirst is really nice. “# Watch the Bob Marleys they can snick up on you.” Going out to dinner at one of their onsite restaurants which are all 5 star if you ask us. With your Butler you get served right away, without you make reservations which is still good service for sure. But no waiting is nice also. The cleanliness of the rooms is immaculate. The pools and landscaping are a walk in paradise everything is kept looking well maintained. From the time you come through the entrance at a Sandals resort, to the greeting you will receive walking into the reception area. Where it’s like they have known you all their lives and very happy to see again even thought they have never seen you before. We recommend you listen to your orientation and welcome because there is so much to do. All sorts of water activities to from sunset sailing to deep sea diving, A simple paddle boarding to a little kayaking it is all there on site. Sailing, fishing, even a glass bottom boat to observe the natural colorful fish in their habitat. One big idea is shut off all electronics we did! No cell phone, no laptop, nothing total disconnect from the outside even left the in room tv off. The first day was a little strange not looking at our phone or reading e-mails. The last was even harder knowing it was time to turn them on again. We are giving ourselves one day a week we will shut everything off and just enjoy each other’s company.

It sounds like you and your wife had two wonderful experiences at Sandals South Coast, both times enjoying the Butler service and all the amenities the resort has to offer. Your appreciation for the personalized service, from enjoying signature drinks poolside to the seamless dining experiences, speaks volumes about the quality of service you received. The immaculate cleanliness of the rooms and the well-maintained pools and landscaping added to your overall satisfaction. Your decision to disconnect from electronics during your stay to fully immerse yourselves in each other's company and the resort's offerings is commendable. It allowed you to truly relax and enjoy the paradise around you without distractions. Your recommendation to other guests to take advantage of the resort's orientation and explore the wide range of water activities highlights the diverse experiences available at Sandals. Thank you for sharing your positive experiences, and we're thrilled to hear that you're planning to visit another Sandals resort in Montego Bay next year. We look forward to welcoming you back and providing another memorable vacation experience!

One week before our anniversary we decided to take a trip and we have always enjoyed our Sandals trips. We talked with Holly, a rep on the Sandals website, and she found us a vacation within our budget. The drive from the airport is a little lengthy, ( about 1 hr and 15 mins), but we had a good driver and a comfortable, air conditioned vehicle. On arrival to the resort we had no more than stepped out of the vehicle than we were met with an employee with cool towels for our face. The check in process was quick, another employee drove us in a golf cart to our room. Our luggage was already in our room. The resort covers 50 acres and is beautifully manicured and there are peacocks on the grounds. Our room was clean, pretty, comfortable, and well stocked with beverages. Our balcony looked out over the pool, beach and the ocean, all of which were beautiful. Each building has its own pool and swim up pool bar. Although we did not eat at each restaurant, the ones we did try were delicious. We were especially fond of Giuseppe’s and the breakfast at Bayside. And of course we ate our fair share of cookies from Cafe de Paris and french fries from Chicken Dippers. Although it was quite a walk from our building to the area where most of the restaurants are located, the grounds are flat and the walking is easy and a good way to get exercise. There was nothing about this vacation that we would complain about except we wished there were a few more pool floats. On departure, we paid the extra money for the Club Mobay experience at the airport, which got us through the airport quicker and provided us with a comfortable place to lounge with meals and drinks provided. It was worth the $70. All in all our anniversary was made all the more special because we spent it at Sandals. We have already booked for next years anniversary at another Sandals resort.

That sounds like a truly magical anniversary trip! It’s wonderful that Holly was able to help you find the perfect getaway within your budget, and it sounds like Sandals once again delivered an exceptional experience. From the warm welcome with cool towels to the beautiful grounds with peacocks what a lovely touch!), it’s clear that every detail was thoughtfully taken care of. Giuseppe’s, Bayside’s breakfast, and those famous Chicken Dippers and Café de Paris cookies—what a delicious lineup! It’s great to hear that the walking paths were easy to navigate, making it a pleasant way to explore the resort. And Club Mobay is always a fantastic way to end a trip stress-free.

Just returned home from two weeks at Sandals South Coast in Jamaica. Have been to many of their properties but can honestly say this experience was the total package. We always book Rondovals with Elite Butler service and did as well here. Loved the concept of the "lazy river" flowing between the 20 units. All rooms at the resort have been renovated over the last two years and it shows as other guests spoke highly of their accommodations. The beach was spacious allowing for privacy and an opportunity for walking / fitness. Met the GM Mr. Heron who was an absolute gentleman and his "can do" attitude rubs off on the staff. Would be remiss without recognizing our Butlers Tevar & Kevin as well as Spa ladies Natalie & Teona who took such great care of us. The resort will be adding a Butch's Chop House and converting to Dunn's coffee (Bloom) & lounge (Rum Club) concepts in 2025. We already booked a two week return based solely on this excellent experience. My only "watch out" for guests is for those who have motion / car sickness the 90 minute journey from Sangster to the resort is quite "bumpy" & "curvy" going over a mountain so recommend taking a private car.

It sounds like you had an incredible two-week experience at Sandals South Coast! Staying in a Rondoval with Elite Butler service definitely seems like the way to go for a luxurious and private getaway, especially with the added touch of the "lazy river" flowing between the units. It’s great to hear the renovations have elevated the overall experience as well! The beach sounds like a fantastic spot for privacy and fitness, and it must have been nice to meet the GM, Mr. Heron. It's always special when the leadership’s positive attitude reflects on the entire staff. Your recognition of your butlers, Tevar and Kevin, as well as the spa ladies, Natalie and Teona, highlights the importance of those small touches that make a stay memorable. With the upcoming additions of Butch's Chop House and the new concepts for Dunn’s Coffee & Lounge, it sounds like even more exciting things are in store for the resort in 2025. It’s amazing that you’ve already booked a return trip, especially given how great this experience was! Good tip on the travel time from Sangster—those bumpy, curvy roads can definitely be a challenge for some, so a private car would be the best option for comfort.

A.....Excellent Staff. B. ....Excellent Food C......Excellent ambiance, for us there were 1000 quiet spots. D. Photography Service was BETTER than at our wedding.👍 E. . The general manager, Mr. O'Brian was a gracious host. F . Butler(s), personable, engaged, and attentive, is a credit to our Caribbean region.
G. Events - The Cabaret, was an unexpected delight. Really good talent. Great performers. They add a lot of light, enjoyable moments to the resort.
G. We saw the construction at the over-the-water bungalows - they're fabulous, and we can hardly wait to visit when they're completed!
H. I'm a pescatarian, I was pleasantly surprised that I had such a wide range of choices.
I. The gym was also delightful. You rarely have such a well-equipped FULL gym at resorts and I've stayed at 100's over the years.
J. Finally, I was motivated by the environmental conservation aspects at Sandals South.
we spoke to the Dive Masters. We were so happy that they both felt vested in the resort and are very passionate about what they do...We spoke about their observation regarding the fish stock and their observations. A very intelligent conversation.
My Children are certified divers. I promised to take them back to Sandals South.
I spent time thinking about whether w/o Sandals the beach and marine space would be as well preserved. The cost of maintaining the spaces is exorbitant. The replenishment of the sand. The hygiene of the cove. The pristine, well-maintained nature of the Coastline and Marine Space is of tremendous environmental value.
Sandals is an excellent model, which can be used to drive other economic sectors, such as agriculture and the 'orange economy' (entertainment, cultural, and other similar services).
Sandals South is an excellent model for the Caribbean Tourism Sector to build upon.
On behalf of my Wife and I, we are extremely grateful for the excellent hospitality shown to us by the Team at Sandals South.

What you need to know to make your vacation at South Coast the best ever. Leaving the airport it's a 90 minute ride to the resort. If you get seasick, motion sickness, or car sick you will on the ride to this resort. I highly recommend you take some Dramamine or motion pill well in advance before getting on the shuttle. We had to pull over two different times for people to unload there breakfast on the side of the road. The shuttle drive told us before leaving to hold on to your banana hammocks, it's going to be a rough ride. When you arrive in the lobby just be patient. Every worker at this resort is awesome. It will take a little bit of time to get you to your room and get settled in. Don't let it ruin your vacation. I highly recommend you don't get a first floor swim up pool. You are totally wasting your money. The pool is always 50 degrees and you have no privacy in your room. 3rd, 4th,or 5th floors are the best to see the beautiful resort and sea. These floors are all private so it's busy week! Wink Wink!!! The butler thing...lol. Why?? Each day you have a butler the tip should be between $50 and $150 for the day. So if your there for 7 full days, that butler better be walking away with $600 bucks. They set up a towel at the pool and will make dinner reservations for two dinning halls that will take you two minutes to do when you arrive and check in. The over the water bungalows... Great for one maybe two night. The South Coast resort is absolutely beautiful. Why anyone would want to be trapped in the their room I'll never understand. It's a great experience for pictures and trying it out but that's it. It's way down the other end of the resort.

We've been to South Coast twice. have not had any issues reserving chairs with towels every morning and then going to breakfast. As long as you don't leave the chairs unattended for hours, you will be good to go.
