Jackalope is an all-black cutting-edge architectural design which some might find spectacular and others might find gloomy. We had an upper floor vineyard view room with a lovely view of the pool and hillside vineyards beyond.
The rooms are a very modern design with black walls. Could be a bit dark for some. The toilet and bathroom area is not overly large and has semi-transparent glass.
Mostly ate in Doot, Doot, restaurant which provided a small range of tasty breakfasts and an exquisite dinner menu consisting of a number of small dishes.
Service from the young staff was generally excellent.
This might be a place for a shorter rather than longer stay.

Hello there, Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. We certainly have a strong art and design focus at the hotel, some have noted that the tonal colour palette further accentuates the rolling vineyards as the backdrop. It's great to hear that you enjoyed your stay and we appreciate your comments on our excellent team. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Best, Tracy Atherton General Manager Jackalope Hotels

We came to Jackalope for the weekend, we had a wedding on the Friday and decided to make the most of it and stay until Sunday. The only reason I have not given this hotel 5 stars is because our room was on the ground floor facing the carpark and therefore had a very ordinary view. Our friends, who paid the same price, were overlooking the pool and winery on the second floor and could enjoy a glass of wine on their terrace while enjoying the ambience. We were a little disappointed.

Aside from that, the hotel is stunning and the staff are extremely professional and attentive. The pool is great, the restaurants are fabulous and the location is very handy for exploring the area. I love the extra touches like the complimentary mini bar (except for wine interestingly enough) and the endless free popcorn (which we forgot to order!).

The breakfast is also fabulous - I love a great breakfast menu which is served until 11am and includes optional sparkling wine and bloody Mary's!

I would recommend Jackalope, it is a great experience but do ask for a vineyard view if possible.

Hotel is very sleek with very modern decoration. The pool and the view is stunning. However, it's very expensive for what you get. There were no slippers provided in the room, no toothbrush or toothpaste. We have asked for slippers that never came. The room was ok, I didnt think it was anything special and you can hear people talking if you're relaxing in your room with the sliding door open. Bed was comfortable and breakfast was delicious. Food at rare hare were very good but it's pretty loud in the restaurant.

My husband booked a three night stay for my 40th birthday when our plans to Cairns was cancelled due to lockdown in hopes to still make it special. He let the hotel know it was for a birthday, we didn't expect any special treatment but usually when staying at a 5 star hotel overseas even RACV at least gives a card or the staff acknowledge your birthday and wish you. My husband even ordered flowers for the room and asked for a card but no card was provided. Even when staff asked if we were celebrating something, they still don't acknowledge it. It was only when we had a fault in our room and the attendant tried to help we asked her for a lighter to light candles for a birthday cake, it clicked in her head it was my birthday and organised 2 glasses of wine. Did not feel special or the hotel staff even cared to make the stay nice. The mini bar although included had the worse selection of alcohol, no chance to get to room service either as the line never worked. No slippers even provided for the room. I would say based on the room more a 3.5-4 star hotel at best. Really not worth the premium to stay at this hotel. Save your money. It's usually the little things that make a difference to a stay such as feeling welcomed, special, someone wish you happy birthday, send a small note. A message on the dessert with a candle at dinner. These things all cost nothing but can make the biggest difference to someone, considering most people currently could use to feel special with all the lockdowns and unable to celebrate. Sadly, this stay did nothing to make my 40th birthday special.

My wife and I finished a business trip in Melbourne with two nights at this wonderful property.
The staff are exceptional as is the food and wine.
We chose a vineyard view room which had a private balcony with beautiful views across to vineyards on Tuscan slopes and beyond.
The property would definitely have received a 5 star review from us but for a couple of unfortunate issues that are worth bearing in mind if you book here.
The website plainly states that their restaurants prioritise bookings of guests staying at the property.
If this is the case, then the fact is that they have more guests than they can properly accommodate.
Our room tariff for two nights included a 7 course degustation at Doot Doot Doot and a credit towards a meal at Rare Hare which is their second restaurant.
The staff were apologetic and appropriate but we were forced to take it or leave it with an 8:45pm seating at one and an 8pm seating at the other because they were so busy. We were given no choice at all, and at our ages such late full course dining doesn’t agree with us.
Room service was extremely slow as we were again told apologetically that they are so busy.
When at 5.30pm, we went to the only bar to enjoy a drink or two before our late dinner booking, we were sent away (politely) because the bar was too full.
As a guest at this remotely located hotel this effectively sends you back to your room because there is no where else to go.
In many years of luxury travel I don’t recall a similar incident.
I’m led to believe this wonderfully quirky property, with such exceptional staff, are biting off more than they can chew.
They are obviously riding a crest of popularity (well deserved) which I hope is not adversely affected by not properly catering to guests needs.

I wont say names however we found the service terrible. Our room including our safe was searched while we were at dinner without our consent - staff were apparently looking for evidence that we were smoking in the room, which we were not. Privacy was absolutely violated and left us feeling very very unhappy with the hotel. Food was better at our first visit, 2nd visit it was nothing special. The standard of service has dropped to what I would not even consider 1 star. Good luck calling room service or the front desk as they never answer the phone and when the did our supper order was forgotten for 2 hours.

If you are wanting a luxurious city escape for a few nights, this is where you should go. Even more so if you're a lover of wine. You can also pop over to the Rare Hare cellar door / restaurant to taste wine. The setting of hotel in front of the sloping vineyard is serene. In fact, we took a bottle of champagne out onto the terrace overlooking the vineyard and watched the sun go down. Magical. The hotel building itself is a work of art. The rooms were a decent size, with stunning bathroom, and a mini-bar that you could use free of charge (with the exception of a few items).

We spent two nights here over Easter and were impressed by the setup.

We were warmly greeted. We also had a charming lady from reception drive us to and from dinner at Laura restaurant at Pt Leo Estate on one of the nights, a handy complimentary service.

Our favourite meal at Jackalope was lunch at Rare Hare. Delicious food with attentive personable service, overlooking the vineyards. Dinner at Doot Doot Doot started well but the service dropped off and the food was less impressive than at the other restaurants we went to that weekend.

We found our room to be spacious and comfortable and well serviced. The sensor light in the bathroom that flicks on if you go in the middle of the night was very nifty - a subtle light under the sink was triggered so you got a soft light on the floor without any lighting in one’s eyes.

It was fun to order popcorn and choc-tops to be delivered to our room too.

A positive is the food was excellent and rooms were very clean.

The focus of this hotel is apparently entirely on the aesthetic. Practicality is unfortunately lost. In the bedrooms light switches are hidden (there is also a master switch that is unmarked and caused all sorts of issues) and in strange places. The bathroom lighting was abysmal and compounding that were unnecessary steps… not ideal in a dark room you are unfamiliar with.

The staff were mostly friendly, but not proactive and largely untrained. Food was served promptly but the wine was poor and was not refilled by staff. Guests had to ask for the bottle to be left on the table and fill their own.

Absolutely would not recommend staying here. For the price we expected top service and was sadly very disappointed.

So many amazing things about this hotel. The views, the spacious room, the pool, the range of food, the very attentive service from the staff, great coffee and the fresh kitchen garden - that comes with a puppy! A puppy!

We got to enjoy the pool with some warm weather and it really was the perfect relaxation after a long lockdown.

Breakfast options are varied and interesting, though the portions in general are light on. We raised this with the team and they were more than accommodating to offer extra breakfast on request. A quarter extra on the plate would be enough - both for the stomach and the eyes. I'm used to leaving a few bites on the plate. Definitely throw a nice dress or shirt in your bag and try the fine dining restaurant. Funnily enough, we left most satisfied and full from that. Just amazing!

I found the sheets on the bed really noisy, to the extent that I'd wake myself up when I'd rustle or turn around. Kind of odd. As others have said, book a vineyard view - it makes a difference.

It did seem to get busier from Thursday onwards, so we were happy we booked in well before the weekend and got more of a run of the place. There were some young kids there which is fine, but the whole design of the place is really more adult friendly. Older kids might be a bit bored.

It was an almost perfect stay, even with the little disappointments it was still an amazing getaway that we look back on fondly.

The Jackalope helped us book transport around the Peninsula. Arthur. He was fantastic. Couldn't recommend him highly enough to get around the Peninsula. We rented a car from the airport to get to the Peninsula, as it was more economical than a car service. Easy drive.
