Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place is magical! If I could give Carmen 10 stars I could. The location, the views, the room, the hospitality were amazing. There is not a negative thing I can say. Please do follow Carmen's advice and rent a 4 wheel drive car. The road up to the resort is no joke, but worth every ounce of effort. Also, don't forget your bug spray. Carmen provides netting and lamp coils but the bugs grow big up here in November.

We had been warned about the steep driveway but were impressed by our first sight of the tree top cabins and main house. Carmen was a charming, informative host, sharing books, maps and insider knowledge which helped make our visit memorable. We cruised & snorkelled with Ocean Safari, crocodile and bird cruised with Solar Whisperer, did a night time rainforest walk and covered many trails and tracks on Carmen's recommendations. The quiet and tree level views from our room were wonderful. The personal touches with floral arrangements and creature comforts were special. A would highly recommend this retreat to anyone who wishes to fully enjoy their Daintree experiences.

My partner and I stayed here for a few nights whilst doing a road trip up the east coast of QLD and I’m so glad we did! The accommodation is beautifully presented in Balinesian style and has breathtaking views over the Daintree rainforest right down to the ocean. We felt really connected to the bird life and wildlife and enjoyed the wonderful sunrises. Carmen, the host, is incredibly kind and attentive and helped us to find local spots to eat and explore, as well as teaching us about the wildlife in the surrounding area and where to find it. We have already booked our return stay as we loved it so much. I would highly recommend this wonderful eco retreat to others.

We enjoyed two nights here and loved the views, the birdlife and great very comfortable accommodation. Host was so helpful, providing local advice and also knowledge about the wildlife including sharing photos. The pool is gorgeous and so was breakfast. On Carmens advice we did 2 hour Coopers Creek Wilderness Walk which was amazing- highly recommended. Would definitely stay here again.

Cockatoo Hill Retreat is nothing short of magical. Beautifully appointed cabins with a view to take your breath away (the best we have seen in Australia) stunning grounds and a beautiful pool all add to the special natural surroundings. Unwinding with a beer on the spacious balcony and listening to the birds at sunset is one of the many highlights of staying here. Another highlight is the beautiful Carmen, a host who is passionate and knowledgeable about the area - she welcomed us with the warmth of an old friend and made our stay an exceptional experience. The main house with reception and dining has panoramic views across the treetops to the ocean also. The Daintree is a destination unlike any other and we cannot recommend Cockatoo Hill Retreat enough. A must on your travel itinerary!!

We travelled to The Daintree for our 10th wedding anniversary and this place was absolutely perfect. Carmen was the most amazing host and the sunrises over the rainforest were unforgettable. Take the opportunity to do the ocean safari from cape tribulation and grab an excellent meal at Whet while you are there.

What a fabulous spot. The property is very attractive and extremely well presented. It is very quiet and the views spectacular. Although it is up on a hill there is still a definite connection with the surrounding forest and nature. The best part was the warmth of our host, Carmen. Nothing was too much trouble and she was full of good information. Her enthusiasm for the local area is infectious. We had a great time. Basically had the whole of the property to ourselves. Highly recommend this place.

This is a really special place. Everything everyone else has written about this place– the view, etc., is all true, especially the fact that part of what makes it so special is the owner, Carmen. My partner and I came here for a holiday, and she really took the time to show us everything about what we could do in the Daintree, and call ahead for us to restaurants, etc. She told us where the good food was, what the best things to see were, and she was right. She also made us jam out of local tropical fruit in the morning for breakfast, and served it with hot croissants. It's been 6 weeks since our stay, and I still occasionally think about the jam, and how great Carmen is. I also left a ring by accident in our room, and she mailed it back to me at no charge. Beyond that, everything at Cockatoo Hill is in great taste. Maybe it's because Carmen's French and the French often have a great aesthetic sense? haha. In any case, the huts are so cool– simple but still luxurious, where the details are given a personal touch. Every part of your stay has breathtaking views– your room, the pool, the main house. One note: the Internet throughout the Daintree isn't great, so this should be a place where you go to turn off from life and really get away. It's not somewhere you should go if you want/need to respond to a lot of work emails. But who wants that? Highly recommend this place. You're not just paying for luxury when you stay at Cockatoo Hill– you're paying for a memory, and you most likely won't forget your time there. Thank you Carmen. :)

My husband and I spend 6 wonderful nights at Cockatoo Hill. The rooms are magnificent, with a view over the rainforest all the way to the beach. There were fans to keep you cool at night, and even though we chose to come during monsoon season, we had no trouble sleeping at night. Carmen was a fantastic host, she provided fresh wonderful breakfasts every morning, and talked to us about the local wildlife and helped us to arrange some local activities in the Daintree. We look forward to visiting Cockatoo Hill Retreat again!
