We stayed for two nights in the Timbercutter’s Cottage with our 13yo daughter and loved our stay. We enjoyed wandering the vineyard which was literally in front of the cottage. It was very peaceful with an abundance of wildlife (from cows in the paddock, to chickens roaming amongst the vines, to cockatoos, galahs and kookaburras in the surrounding trees).

We loved the rustic feel of the cabin (which was also very comfortable) and the kitchen was stocked with all the essentials. Loved that all their wines were available at a great price and the complimentary port was a delicious bonus!

We can highly recommend Cedar Creek Cottages for a true country getaway.

Recently stayed in the Timbercutter's Cottage on this property. After arriving at the Cellar Door for check-in, a very warm welcome and great chat over a wine tasting, we arrived at our cottage. Very rustic and charming, just what we wanted. As long as the bed and lounges are comfy, which they were, and there is a fire for my husband to continuously fiddle with, we're a happy bunch.

Chickens running around outside, and only about 40 feet to the vines, it was a fabulous spot to spend a few relaxing days.

The breakfast hamper in the fridge is fantastic. A drive over the mountain only takes about half an hour for more wineries and a great lunch somewhere. If you have a few supplies, or get them on your winery afternoon, you can then settle in with the fire and wine supplied by the Cellar Door.

We loved our time at Cedar Creek, walking along the creek, and relaxing in front of the fire. You can walk anywhere you like on this property, which is lovely.

We would certainly recommend this place to friends and family, we will be back again soon

We stayed for 2 nights in the Gardeners cottage and loved every minute.
The cottage itself is lovely, with a comfy queen sized bed, and a lounge / kitchen with a slow combustion fire. It was great to arrive later than we anticipated- with key in the door and the fire ready to go. It was amazing how quickly it warmed up the whole cottage on a really cold night.
Breakfast provisions were great - Plenty of eggs and bacon and tomatoes .
A plunger and coffee is provided , though we chose to take our own coffee pod machine .
The view is gorgeous overlooking the vines- great to see the chooks roaming around , and plenty of wombat and rabbit burrows, though didn’t spot them on our walks .
Definitely recommend the cedar cottages and can’t wait to stay there again

Aghhhhhhh

Been here about ten times now.

But recent visit will be our last. Never NEVER again.

Gone down hill dramatically, and worst the owners attitude has gone downhill too - it is like she doesn't care anymore.

Arrived at a dark cottage. Light bulb had blown. No matches for the fireplace. Not a great start to a romantic weekend after driving in the freezing wind and pouring rain from Sydney

Weirdly found bottles of shampoo not in the bathroom, but on the dining room chair. Curtains thin and didn't entirely fit over the windows, huge gaps in the walls and door that could not be covered in towels.

Whilst in past years I saw this place as "a bit of an adventure", recent visit I just saw it as it truly is : a run down dump

Our cottage was filthy. Behind and under the sofa was about six months worth of dust and dirt. The sockets were broken. The oven was vile - dirty, stained and greasy. Smelt rank. Since we were on a romantic weekend away, no way did we want to scrub a oven for hours before use

Owner was quite rude when I asked for some matches. Since I don't smoke, I didn't have a lighter and match box they supplied had three live matches and two dead ones. Surely if you rent out cottages with a fireplace, at least provide matches.

Bath had a grime ring around. And dust and dead months in the bedroom

The only think good about the stay, was the wine they produce.

Funny, when we started staying here, the cottages were gorgeous and the wine was vinegar. Now the wine is gorgeous and the cottages are abysmal

This was my go-to place in the Hunter for many years; but no longer

The fact that you can win a case of wine if you give a good Trip Advisor review, makes the situation even worse in their lack of caring.......guess I won't be winning one any time soon!

Very upset by this turn of events

We had 2 nights in Howells Cottage and just loved it. It was plenty big enough for the 2 of us and had a lovely romantic and relaxed feel. The kitchenette was small but well equipped and we had no trouble preparing a gourmet dinner (we had our own supplies). When we arrived we opened a bottle of Sparkling white from the fridge "mini" bar and sat on our balcony with a lovely cheese platter and enjoyed the late afternoon view over the vineyard - so peaceful and relaxing! It was a cool night so my hubby lit the fire which provided just the right amount of warmth. The breakfast supplies were plentiful and fresh. We went for 2 early morning walks around the deer paddocks and up the hill and also along the creek - it was a great way to start each day. On the first day we were lucky enough to have the 2 dogs from the property join us. Darrel and Philipa were very helpful with guidance on where to walk etc and even though we approached their gorgeous homestead (which is where the walk started from) at 620am in the morning they were already up and busy and more than happy to stop for a chat. They have done an amazing job with the cottages and winery and it was very interesting reading the history and information about them provided in our cottage. We went for a wine tour while we were there with 2 Fat Blokes Tours and we were picked up at the Winery Cellar Door - very convenient. We loved it here it really is a special place - very peaceful and very relaxing I only wish we could have stayed 1 more night.......

We were very fortunate to stumble across Daryl and Phillipa's wonderful grouping of lovely private cottage accomodations. Just a stones throw from busy Pokolbin, Cedar Creek Cottages offers the perfect get-away. We stayed in the ultra clean, comfortable Gardner's Cottage and were treated to a small refrig loaded with fresh breakfast essentials. With a full front porch that faces onto the vinyards themselves, we found ourselves waking to the misty mornings with cofffe on the porch, seranded by Laughing Kookaburas, and evening port (provided by the owners) on that same porch to end our day. Bedding, music, bathrooms all provided and very comfortable. A remarkably restful place that I hesitated to review for fear of too many finding out about it.

My husband and I stayed at the Howell cottage in May 2007. This is one of the 6 cottages available as part of the Cedar Creek Cottage accommodation at Stonehurst Winery. This cottage is situated on a hillside overlooking the vineyard and mountains. This is probably the most romantic place we have ever stayed. The cottage is very rustic but with all the modern amentities you could want. It is an open plan cottage with a queen size bed, TV/DVD, fireplace, couch, kitchen and bathroom with spa. Plenty of wood was supplied allowing us to have a fire every night.

There are two other nearby cottages but they are sufficiently away from one another that you don't even notice the other occupants. The area is very secluded so if you are after peace and quiet, look no further. Watching the fog lift in the morning was gorgeous and, in the afternoon, eating antipasto complimented by red wine sourced in the Hunter Valley was sublime. It couldn't have been more perfect for us.

The owners were very friendly and hospitable. Yummy chocolates and port were even supplied which we enjoyed. The cottage was exceptionally clean and all the utensils needed to cook up the supplied breakfast hamper were provided.

It is a bit of a drive to Pokolbin where many of the restaurants were (about 20-25 mins), but it is a pleasant drive and very much worth it. I would highly recommend this accommodation for anyone looking for a romantic, restful and memorable experience.

After battling the crowded, rude, overpriced wineries and tourist attractions in and around Pokolbin we headed for our accommodation at Stonehurst wines Cedar Creek. As soon as we entered the beautifully built cellar door we felt like old friends and greeted with a welcoming smile from Maddy. She sat us down and gave us the history of the farm, winery, buildings, surrounding townships and wow does this lady know her wines!!! We were given an explanation on the varieties of Stonehurst Wines (and the AMAZING PORT), how they're produced (organic), the difference in the years of production and how it can affect wine, and how to match a wine with food. This tasting was definitely the most wonderful and informative we have ever experienced and gave us a true appreciation for fine wine. We weren't rushed or felt like we had to purchase any items( although the wines are so good we did anyway) and as it was my partners Birthday we were shouted a complimentary bottle of Champagne!!!!
We set off down the road to our cabin and what a lovely surprise. We love traditional style cabins with a rustic feel and this had it all.
Beautiful landscaped gardens, wonderful verandas overlooking the vineyard, fireplace (with plenty of wood close at hand), spa, complimentary port, chocolate, a massive breakfast hamper of bacon, eggs, tomato, baked beans, bread, cereals, milk, juice , tea and coffee. We had plans of exploring the whole area but ended up spending most of the time in the cottage and around the farm. We were more than welcome to wander and check out the cows and deer.
Everything was accommodated for and even after a busy day at the cellar door Maddy dropped in to make sure we had everything we needed.
This was a very relaxing stay in wine country with top quality organic produce especially if your looking to get away from the buses and crowds. Great accommodation and fantastic 5star service.
Thank you for making a Birthday surprise perfect !!!

Dear Paul, Thank you for leaving such a wonderful review, we certainly love sharing our little slice of heaven with our guests and are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us! We like to think the Wollombi valley is the most picturesque area of the Hunter - set away from the crowds and surrounded by quiet vineyards and bushland, perfect for a city escape. As a family owned and run business, our small team shares our passion for premium quality wines and welcoming hospitality. Maddy is an integral part of our Cedar Creek family and we're very lucky to have her. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip, and look forward to welcoming you back to Cedar Creek again soon! Kind regards, Laura
