We had driven from Santa Barbara and left quite late so when we eventually wound our way out of the cliffs of Big Sur it was becoming dark and we need to stop for the night then we came across Fernwood Resort (well Motel really) - dont be looking for 5 star comfort- we got a family motel unit up...

We were driving back home to BC Canada from a trip to Disneyland. After a long drive ended up here around 7 pm, got a room, and had dinner. The food and atmosphere was great as was the room, very comfy bed with a separate room for the kids. it was nice and quite all night even being right next...

I wanted to spend a night in Big Sur, where I had come to take photos. I checked out what is available and quickly discovered that most of the hotels in Big Sur seek to attract couples for romantic getaways. Nothing wrong with that, but the prices were higher than I wanted to pay for a place to sleep, which...

On a drive North to South on Highway 1, we decided to give Fernwood Resort a try. The motel style rooms are directly on the highway and I would imagine they would be a bit noisy during the morning hours. We decided to have an "adventure" and stay in the Adventure Tent. The tent itself was nice. It had a...

Apparently this campground is a favorite meeting place for large groups of drunken partiers. On one recent Friday night we were subjected to to three different groups of loud, inconsiderate and obnoxious partiers. There was no one in the camp office to complain to at 1am when the parties were in full swing. This would be a beautiful campground as...

Stayed one night here. We got their last room which is quite small, 12'x10' approximately. Bed was comfy and clean, shower good and staff were pleasant. A little overpriced compared to other similar motels we stayed in but be warned there is limited accommodation in this area

We stayed at Fernwood twice and we love it there because of the close proximity to all the Big Sur attractions, the access to the trails and of course the Big Sur River at our front door.We stayed in the tent cabins along the river both times and we would not trade that experience for a motel room ever,it's beautiful and...

I've been to the Fernwood Resort a few times on the weekends and each time it's always a big party. It's loud from the motel to the tent sites, but I was there for a few of those parties so I'm not complaining! The set up in the main portion of the facility is like an amphitheater, so all sounds...

There was limited availability in the Big Sur area because we waited to book our trip. Fernwood was a good choice. Basic accommodations, staying in the 'motel' rooms adjacent to the campground. They have a nice store, and a bar & grill but we didn't eat there.

After traveling to Big Sur for 43 years, having lodged at all levels from camping to Deetjen's and Ventana, the Fernwood was the least accommodating and I wouldn't stay there again. It's obvious that there has been little updating to the rooms except for the wi-fi. The rooms are worn out but clean. The food was very mediocre, and the...
