Nestled in a picturesque setting ideal for water sports enthusiasts, Alila Kothaifaru Maldives garners acclaim for its exceptional service and luxurious amenities, including private villas with pools and diverse dining options. While its serene atmosphere and elegantly designed spaces captivate guests, the spacious and modern rooms with breathtaking views further enhance the stay, even as some guests mention encountering mosquitoes.
Although a few visitors have noted occasional lapses in turndown service, the overall cleanliness is celebrated. Despite the premium price, many find the experience to be good value.

Detailed Reviews
My wife and I had an extraordinary experience at Alila. The property is brand new, food was spectacular and the reef and sea was teeming with fish.
We stayed in an above water sunset villa. Room cleaned 2x per day and we never saw a cleaner it was coordinated when we ate meals. Our host Alla met all of our needs and was always available for the slightest needs. We did not do the all inclusive menu with the exception of breakfast. We tried the spa, cooking class, wind surfing lesson, reef tour, self guided snorkeling, professional photos and everything exceeded expectations. Highly recommend this resort. The property, beaches and vegetation are lush and well maintained. Trip was expensive but worth every penny.

Enjoyed out stay at Alila Maldives as I had been anticipating the opening of the resort for sometime and booked before it was even bookable via the app. We have just returned home and the resort was absolutely beautiful, especially loved the sunset water villa and our favorite part of each day was watching the sunset from our villa! The welcoming party was also so fun, we felt so special! Having a personal host was awesome as well, we could message anytime we needed anything at all and they would take care of it. Mal was our host and she was wonderful, always quick to respond and fulfill our needs!
A few things to note for me was more attention to the pool service. We were at the pool waiting and looking for towels yet it was after 9am and no one and no towels were to be found. We had to ask the SeaSalt staff to assist us. We also had to order drinks and food from the bar at the pool they did not come up to us. Maybe because it's not quite high season they were a little short staffed? Just would expect this service at this type of resort. The food was mostly good, pricey as we all would expect, a Tiger beer was like $8 US plus 22% tax just to give you an idea. As a globalist we appreciated the breakfast but a little happy hour would have been a nice touch for Hyatt members who worked hard to achieve status, like as you would get at a Hyatt with a club lounge... just a suggestion. Also the reef was nice but not as good as other Maldives resorts, I think it got a bit destroyed during the construction sadly! although the boat snorkeling tour $95 was very good and I recommend it. As far as location apparently there was no surfing or whale sharks nearby like some of the other resorts that offer boats to those things so just be aware if those are things you are looking for.

Dear emileeo457 Thank you very much for your rewarding comment following your recent stay at our resort. We are glad to read that you find the resort absolutely beautiful thanks to the stunning water villas, the welcome experience as well as the excellent service from your personal host Mal. I have taken note of your comments and we are going to act upon these points you raised, as we continue to fine tune our services at all levels. Thank you for highlighting this. In the Raa atoll, where we are located there are no surfing points. We have the upcoming Mata ray season from December to May just starting and our divers have spotted several already. There is also the occasional whale shark to be spotted during that time. Once again, thank you for staying at Alila Kothaifaru and we certainly look forward to welcoming you back to create more memories with us whenever your travels bring you back to this special place in the world. Kindest island regards Thomas and the entire Alila team

We stayed at Alila Kothaifaru during their soft opening. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. The kids club has a variety of activities with a schedule of activities/events in place that will appeal to all tastes: no two days were the same which kept our children eager to go to kids club daily. The food was wonderful and the chef went the extra mile to accommodate our food allergies. The island itself is picture perfect, with white sand beaches and clear blue ocean as far as the eye can see, broken up only by the waves as they hit the reefs which border the island. We took a dolphin cruise and were delighted to meet a pod of dolphins who swam along with our boat. The only down side of our stay were the mosquitoes, which were relentless in their attacks. We went to the island expecting bugs (given the climate) and we prepared by bringing a lot of bug repellent, but there was no escape. The bathrooms are completely outdoors. Every trip to the w/c or just to wash hands resulted in several mosquito bites. We were unable to enjoy the private pool or private sun loungers at our villa because of the mosquitoes. The resort fogs for mosquitos, but it made little impact on the frequency of bites we received. Once on the beach, and walking along the oceanfront or swimming, mosquitoes were no longer an issue, so we stayed on the beach and didn't spend much time in our private pool. Overall, a great experience despite to mosquitoes.

I would highly recommend Alila Kothaifaru Maldives as a special holiday destination!
Location: The Hotel is located on a private island, a 45 minute sea plane journey from Male. Their staff greeted us at the airport in Male to organise our connection to/from the seaplane which made for a great pre arrival and post stay experience.
This is the only Hotel on the island. We stayed for 5 nights which was plenty for us as honeymooners. It was a nice, private location for our holiday. If travellers are wanting to stay somewhere with a bit more to do or with kids, I would recommend a different Hotel (I did notice that ours had a play room, however I didn't see many advertisements on kids clubs etc, and it definitely seemed more romance/couple focused).
Amenities: The actual Hotel was beautiful! We did a lot of research prior to booking and it was hard to find a Hotel that had overwater villas, that were still modern and with a pool in a good price range. Alila had all of these things. We stayed in an Overwater Villa with Sunset View + Pool. The pool at our villa was beautiful and the room had everything we could possibly need. The sunset view was worth the $$ and I would recommend you book your dinners at the restaurants after sunset so that you can enjoy the view if you book this room type. The restaurants were great and it was nice to have the choice of a few different outlets to mix things up over a few days. We tried all restaurants and Umami (Japanese restaurant) was our favourite. There was also a little bar near Umami which was right on the ocean that was incredibly beautiful.
Lastly, the spa was wonderful and spa manager, Gusti very delightful! Also, our butler Alla was great.
I would have liked to have seen a few more "complimentary" activity options offered. As the island is quite small, there was not a lot to do other than relax (which was great!), however our family went to a competitor hotel in November and mentioned how they had a huge list daily of complimentary activities and they enjoyed doing one of these per day. This would be a nice idea to add.
Overall, the staff were incredible and very helpful! Our stay was beautiful and extremely relaxing. The Hotel is new and they have executed the vibe perfectly. I would highly recommend this Hotel for a couple wanting a relaxing holiday.

We were there when the hotel was still in the pre-opening mode so there were not many guests at the resort, which was good for us. Our villa was beautiful and equipped with thoughtful amenities like sunscreen lotion, sun oil, insect repellent, etc. I liked the outdoor shower, big bathtub and portable Bluetooth speaker from which I could play music in the room and on my patio. Hussain, our butler, did a very good job and was very attentive to our needs and comments. I loved the staff and food at breakfast, and the fact that the resort is built on a natural island so we saw many bats flying around everywhere around the island.

This hotel on its own island/atoll in the middle of Indian Ocean is bucket list worthy. Settings and views with its beach and over-water villas are among the very best. Genuine friendly service and fresh/prepared-with-care foods are top-notch. The experience started prior to trip with responsive emails from Venu Gopal (Reservation Manager) regarding the upcoming stay. From the very start at greetings (by friendly and helpful Denny) at Male airport for seaplane transfer to the atoll to the welcoming by hotel GM Thomas Weber, our personal host Yoonus (who personally decorated special greetings at our villa and, as host, he was always at our beck and call), and staffs at the arrival jetty made us feel special.
One can see that hotel grounds are well-cared for with beach and sandy walkway raked every day and trees/shrubbery plucked and tidied by staffs on our walks around the island. Every hotel employee always greeted/smiled/waved hello to us on our walk. Restaurant/bar staffs were friendly and helpful as well. Breakfast and occasional Boat to Table seafood dinner at Seasalt restaurant were very fresh/expertly prepared and presented. Meals/food here are understandably expensive at this hotel and the all-inclusive option helped with removing the planning/thinking from selection in term of cost. All-inclusive meal option involves 3-course meals (for lunch and dinner whereas breakfast is unlimited) that avoid wastefulness of a typical all-you-can eat buffet. Special commendation to Sandip (at Mirus Bar) and Arya (at Yakitori Bar, must try the skewer foods here) for their infectious smiles/energy/friendly services/colorful cocktail concoctions (must try Sandip's Alila Coco Loco and Alila Sunset drinks). Sandip and Arya also took some amazing pictures for us. We ran into GM Thomas Weber around the hotel a few time and he took the time to talk to us as he was very approachable, friendly, and easy-going.
We were able to afford the stay here (4 nights) by redeeming Hyatt points (from Chase credit card signup bonus points) for beach villa and was upgraded to over-water villa, (thank you Venu Gopal), as we have Hyatt Globalist status. The over-water villa was airy with incredible view, clean, modern, and with its own infinity pool. Bathroom has its own floor to ceiling ocean view. We booked almost 1 year in advance to make sure of availability with point booking (with less in points in early or mid November as start of dry season in the Maldives). It did rain during our first day here and two evenings, but mostly it was dry/sunny. The seaplane transfer experience was also unique and fun. Overall, this was one unforgettable stay with incomparable view and experience for us. Thank you Alila Kothaifaru !

We have been to about 16 different resorts the last 8 years, traveling as a family with 2 children. We have stayed at mostly high-end and a few mid tier resorts, and have a preference for great food, snorkeling, diving, service and beauty of the island, and high quality villas
We stayed 2 families in 2 rooms, not long after the official opening, so most of the resort was in full operation
Alila is a stunning place, extremely well managed, with superior service and staff, and most likely the best food in the Maldives. And access to some of the best diving you can find ...really close by
From welcome to departure you are taken extremely well care of. There is genuine interest and attention to every detail, and everyone you meet will be helpful and kind, and personal in a very nice and authentic way.
The island and the rooms are incredibly well designed and integrated and you mostly see the green of the jungle and the blue of the ocean. An off season visit meant choppy waves but even so the house reef snorkeling was pretty good/great. Some parts of the reef was not accessible due to weather, but for very avid snorkelers like us it was still a great snorkeling experience.
The dive sites, which are pretty close by, are very good by Maldivian standard (high), and well worth it.
A special call out to Pradeep the FB manager and his team for creating one of, if not the, best food experiences in the Maldives.
Also a call out to Alex the GM for his presence på and what they are building, and the atmosphere with the staff, and to Hussein, our butler, for impeccable support. A final call out to all the staff in the restaurants for fantastic service, and to the dive boat and dive crew as well.
If you are looking for a new, top 5 star maldivian resort - look no further

Recommended in every respect, although you should be prepared for very high additional costs (e.g. an espresso macchiato for 10 USD + service + tax). All of the food was freshly prepared and was mostly of outstanding quality. A weekly change of menu would have been nice, however; you could express your wishes and these were then happily implemented. The free mineral water with meals and in the room was very nice, as were original Nespresso capsules/fresh fruit in the room. Minor complaints about room service at the start of our vacation were dealt with immediately and permanently resolved. There is a contact person in the complex who takes care of everything (reservations, complaints...). We also liked the very large beach bungalows and their room layout, as well as the huge bed. The mosquitoes in the open bathroom and in the "garden" were a bit annoying. Insect repellent is recommended, but is also available on site.

First time in the Maldives and very glad I chose Alila. Loved both the beach and water villas I stayed in rooms come with completely water, coffee pods and luxury toiletries . Had a wireless Bose speaker that was great while relaxing outside on the patio with a walkway to the beach or on the deck of your pool villa.
Service was top notch food reasonably priced and complimentary activities daily. Def will come back thanks Alila !

When you fly into the hotel, you are greeted by an island lush with greenery, pristine white beaches and of course the crystal clear waters of Maldives. It's only when you take a short buggy ride to your room that you realize that nestled within the natural forest, there are a small set of villas, which blend in with the surrounding scenery. The infinity pool, the large rooms, the open bathroom and the access to the beach from your private villa make you fall in love with the place at first sight. It exudes the feel of being nestled within the nature, when you get to wake up to the bird sounds on one side and the gentle lapping of waves on the other side of your villa.
The amenities, staff, restaurants, cafes, bars, library, clinic, water sports center - all of them reinforce the attention to detail that went into building this new resort. The amount of times I banged my head onto the clear doors should be an indicator of how clean and new the whole place was. From having breakfast in their Seasalt restaurant to sitting on the beach under the moonlit night, every moment of the day was an experience.
The staff were accommodating and provided a complimentary upgrade to water villa during the middle of the stay, against the loyalty status. It opened up a whole new chapter to the experience when you walk into the water villa and see the vista of the sea, the infinity pool, the relaxation net, the large balcony against the backdrop of your windows. The views from the bed, from the bathroom sinks, from the shower, the tub, from every corner of the room was like a new revelation on how to enjoy the sea. Of course, to truly enjoy the sea, you have a convenient ladder descending into the turquoise waters where you can deploy your complimentary scuba gear.
If you ever feel like taking a break from basking in the views from your villa, all you have to do is take a walk along the long beaches, or within their forested island or head to the dive center for a range of adventure activities. The only downside of the place is that at some point you have to say goodbye to the dream and head back to reality. But fortunately, this is a dream you can remember and capture for posterity.

Thank you kweber177! Good advice!
Hi, we just come back. All the water villas are easy to access snorkeling. The house reef is not very good, not many fish are there, but the water is pure and clean. You can snorkel near the dock, that is much better. If you have time, a snorkeling trip is definitely recommended.
