We have just spent 2 nights half board at the Shangri La and we couldn't have had a better time! On arrival, our bags were taken and sanitised, the lady at check in was behind a plastic screen, wore gloves and a mask and wiped down the card machine etc. The service was fantastic and it was evident the staff were happy to have visitors back in the hotel.
We stayed in a terrace room which was beautiful and had a large amount of outside space. Towels, toiletries etc were all in sealed bags and safety and hygiene had obviously been well thought out.
Although the pool remains closed, the beach was open and sunbeds and umbrellas were available and a 2 metre (at least) distance was kept between them. The water sports were open and my husband loved the jet skis. Masks were required around the hotel at all times but again, this made us feel safe and we understood this was a necessary requirement for now.
All restaurants were closed but all food could be ordered to your room using an app. Room service was busy as could be expected but we pre ordered and our food arrived tasting delicious and at the time we had ordered for.
Was it the same as a holiday pre Covid? No, not exactly but then we were never expecting that to be the case. Were we pleasantly surprised and refreshed after a change of scenery? Absolutely and we will be booking another visit very soon!

Dear K_Finn88, Thank you very much for your great and detailed review. Who would have thought that there will come a time when we greet guests in masks, try to keep a distance from guests and keep cleaning and sanitizing surfaces in the lobby every time they have been used. Completely unthinkable only 5 months ago. To get a team that has running hospitality though its blood to stay a distance away from guests and to smile behind a masks is a challenging task which is the reason why we appreciate your compliments even more. On behalf of all of my team I would like to extend our sincerest thanks for recognizing their efforts and hard work to you and your family. We do look forward to having you with us again soon! It was confusing before leaving knowing what to expect reading reviews here. Hopefully this will help. We are a family with a 12 and a 14 year old. Our rooms were great, yes not full modern luxury but most importantly a very comfortable bed and well equipped bathroom beautifully cleaned every day with a lovely view of the beach. The resort has something for everyone and whilst you are isolated from the real Oman which we would like to have seen more of, we were there essentially for a week of relaxation in the sun and that was readily available with plenty of great water and pool activities. We kayaked, went out jet skiing and our 12 year old played various pool games, football and table tennis, all for free. The staff were full of smiles and happy to help. We were half board and tried most eating venues, we love food and there was a great selection, for all 4 of us Al tanoor was the preferred venue but we also enjoyed Tapas, Chow Mee and Bait. Samba was slightly lacking in atmosphere at night, the Al Bandar area had a much better buzz. It is great the way you can access both hotel areas regardless of which hotel you are staying at. The only complaint which I would agree with, expressed by many here, is that the costs of drinks is very high, we bought some wine duty free but it was a shame feeling restricted with our choices due to price. The gym was small but handy, there was a great massive adventure zone across the car park area that was a bit soulless, you got the impression lots of people hadn't realised it was there or couldn't be bothered to access it as it was a little remote from the main action. With smaller children we would have used it more. Anyway overall a fantastic week, we like exploring and trying new places but wouldn't rule out a return. If we could give an extra half we would - not quite worth 5 but better than a 4!

Around 20 of Feb/2020 I went with my wife for one week winter sun. My son suggested: Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa - Al Waha , and what a good choice it was. Location is by the sea with a variety of activities, cafes and restaurants. Hotel is spotless, staff are very friendly and helpful. Every morning, going to the breakfast was a nice way to start the day: variety of food and drink (hot and cold) to chose from plus the friendly staff to make sure we well looked after.
in the afternoon, we normally go to swim in the large hotel swimming pool or the enjoy walking by the sea to explore the rocks and marine life. early evening, we either eat in the hotel (at least 4 restaurants - offering different internal food type) or we take the complementary bus to town (around 30 minutes) stay for 2 hours enough to explore popular area in Oman, have a food and return back to the hotel by waiting bus.
Every day they clean the room, change linen and provide free of charge drinking water. Also bed is very comfortable and air condition is very good and you can hardly hear it. also fast wireless internet is available everywhere in the hotel.
I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely going back to this hotel soon.

So this is the hotel that allows kids; there is a sister hotel a little more expensive on the hill Al-Hosn.
This hotel is a 4.5 stars; I stayed one night at the Al Bustan Ritz Carlton and that was a five star.. however this hotel (Shangrila) is much nicer and I would come back here again and again.
Everything was good; the welcome, the early check in, the room location at garden level. The pools are nice and the lazy river fun. The beach is huge and at least you have several options where to sunbath. You can be on pool, under trees, on lawn or on the sand. I am sure kids will love it there as well.
The gym is beautiful and the equipment is all new and varied including a Smith Machine. The bathroom of the gym has a nice Sauna and you can use the Steam room of the spa next door (kind of inconvenient to go there).

Now the rooms are nice, with a great BR but they are clearly less luxurious than the 5 stars hotels. As one of the reviewers Said it is a shame to have powder coffee instead of a coffee maker. Toiletry in the bathroom is of good quality.

Breakfast is also not 5*, there is an omelets station but the quality of the food is again less luxurious than at the other hotels, the jams are cheap and the fruits are basic (no Rambutan, passion fruit etc..).

My suggestions to management:
1. Staff needs to be better trained. They did not understand our requests. When we arrived there was an extra bed in the room, when we asked them to remove it they added a baby crib instead (it was a very funny moment for us). Asked for towels, never received them.
2. The umbrellas on the beach are fixed, so you can have shaved only for certain. Of time and then you have to run around with your chairs trying to get some shade ( I understand it's because of the wind but still).
3. No toiletry in the gym and spa; it would be a nice touch. Body lotion, shaving equipment, etc..
4. Prices of the items in the mini bar are prohibitive.
5. Restaurants on site are good. The Bab al Bahr is great but boy so expensive.

Currently completing a 5 night stay at this resort. As previous reviewers have stated, there are 3 properties making up this resort, the Al Waha, Al Bandhar and Al Husn. They categorise all three under a 5 star rating banner which is simply misleading and untrue. Travelling with a small child, we were allocated a room at Al Waha upon check in which is at best a mid range 3 star hotel; Small, dingy, musty and smelly. When I flagged at reception that this room was grossly different to the pictures advertised online that I had based my booking on, they simply stated that they do not have any pictures of the Al Waha rooms on the website and these are in fact the rooms of Al Bandhar that I had seen against the Al Waha description, and should I want the room as advertised then I would need to pay an additional surcharge for a room at Al Bandhar - this is FALSE ADVERTISING and there should be stringent repercussions against the Shangri La for such underhand tactics!
The entire hotel is very very dated. Our eventual room at Al Bandhar was at best a low end 4 star room. The bathroom had a foul drainage smell constantly. The furnishings were old and musty. There was a general grimy/dirty feel to the whole resort. Beach towels were often filthy. Food was fine, but nothing amazing. Service generally was impersonal and rushed. All in all, there is nothing about this Shangri La that justifies the 5 star premium prices that they charge!

We visitited the hotel for one night and booked the family staycation plan, which includes a free room upgrade to next available level, but did not happen to us. Even when we asked for a high floor they responded that that room would take time to prepare, which seemed more like an excuse as the hotel was almost empty. Anyway the room was clean, nice and well equipped although could expect bigger size for a superior room.
The staff was very polite and helpful and responded to every our request.
The measures taken to prevent the spread of covid 19 were very good.
The outdoors need a good renovation, especially the pools area, there were even some broken tiles in the pool where I had a scratch at my toe.
Both buffet breakfast and dinner needed more variety but anyway the chef offered to bring french fries for our picky eating kids.
The overall experience was good.

This was our second time to the Shangri-La and from start to finish it was superb and quite possibly one of the best hotel experiences we have had.

In terms of COVID precautions your temperature is screened on entry to the hotel, there are screens at the front desks, sanitisers everywhere and you are also given a little packet with face masks, sanitisers, wipes and reminded to wear your mask around the hotel. I also hold my hat off to all the staff who work continuously throughout the day wearing a mask, especially those working outside in the heat.

Our room was very spacious with a large balcony and gorgeous views overlooking the pool area and the ocean.

The hotel grounds are beautifully manicured and clean, and the pool area is spacious with the sun beds spaced out, so you are not close to anyone else. Although the kids splash pad area and slide in Al waha pool wasn’t open, the lazy river is which is super relaxing and one of the pool attendant sanitizers the rubber rings after each use.

We had dinner at Capri Court which has just recently reopened, and the food was delicious, very well presented and exactly what you should find in a traditional Italian restaurant. The staff were also attentive and on the ball but too much that you felt, they were hovering.

The icing on the cake of our stay (no pun intended) was a beautiful anniversary cake and bottle of wine as it was our five year wedding anniversary and we had not even told the hotel (but they saw on my social media) so it was a really nice touch and made the weekend even more special.

Well done team Shangri-La, we are already looking forward to our next visit and fingers crossed all the facilities will be open next time.

Our staycation to Shangrila Al Jissah was unplanned. It was an alternative to supposed to be our trip to Salalah but due to sudden announcement of curfew we opted to find a good hotel for us to celebrate our wedding anniversary with our family and best friend.
Right from the beginning the hotel staff were accommodating. From the reservation, Marisol was helpful and patient explaining and confirming from us our reservation and preferences.
In the reception, Jen and Abby were friendly and helpful as well.
The rooms are incredibly clean, with amazing pool view, everything is sanitized, masks and sanitizers are free, and are available everywhere.
Restaurants have sumptuous meals, and everything is sanitized with strict distancing protocol.
WiFi is strong and can reach even in the beach side. Towels and sanitizing agents are available almost everywhere. Staff are also helpful across almost every areas around.
They even gave us a complimentary cake and wine for our wedding celebration.
The experience is totally awesome and we already made our promos reservation.
Im definitely recommending this hotel.

During this pandemic, it is difficult to give review of based on the expected usual experience. Our comment is based on the “new normal”. Check-in took longer than usual, many disinfectation and declaration procedure. We were handed with a hygiene kit upon checkin, thought they were not enough but masks and sanitizers are available in many stations. We stayed in Al Bandar Hotel. Our rooms were barely decorated, room amenities reduced but Dickson and Babu (Room Attendant) ensure that our stay is comfortable. Only Al Bandar pools were open and the lazy river. Kids will be disappointed of not having the slides and splashpad but we’ve been told they will open it later this month. Mark and the lifeguard team ensure our child is safe while we are away. Restaurants are limited and so are their menu. This is the only let down of our stay, we wish there will be more healthier options. Other than that our stay was enjoyable! Thanks to Subaira and Alona for our late booking arrangement. We look forward for the next full moon experience!

I have noted your comments which are all very valuable and I am especially sorry for the delays you have experienced upon arrival which have been caused by a sudden last minute pick up in bookings due to the last minute declared public holidays. We stayed as a family for six nights. From check in to check out the staff were friendly and efficient. As we walked in we could snarl the frankincense and could view the pool area and Gulf through classic moorish arched windows. Great theatre.

What sets this resort apart is the quality of the pool area. All the outdoor pools are heated to a really comfortable temperature. There are two water slides in a separate area plus a small pool for toddlers.

Even better is the fact that you can float along the lazy river to the sister hotel’s pools.

The hotel has a series of family activities which are fun and led by a really enthusiastic and genuinely nice guy. You can join in or not but it was fun trying archery and water polo. If you don’t find these to your taste you can play 9 holes of crazy golf or tennis.

The hotel has a decent private beach with loads of water sports available. We tried kayaking and scuba and both felt well run. As a family you could easily spend a week at this resort with no risk of boredom.

Breakfast buffet is excellent and varied.

The hotel has a number of restaurants which are all pretty decent but not exactly cheap. One niggle is that all over the hotel water is freely supplied but in the restaurants the same 500ml of water is 2OMR or £4. Feels a bit unnecessary when you’re paying £40 a head for the buffet.

Overall I’d totally recommend this hotel for a family break.

I’ve been going to the Shangri La annually for the past 6 years. Yes there is a children’s pool with a canopy, lazy river and other children’s water based activities on a pirate ship. I’m booked to go again with my grandson in May 2025

In my opinion this will not affect anything, hotel host many ppl with different cultures during the year including ramadan, about your other question about outside the hotel I think most of the activities will start after fast breaking however things will be open like Matrah souq and others.

Depends on the restaurant, some areas acceptable guests are generally allowed to wear smart casual attire, including tailored shorts, during the evening in certain restaurants. However, it is always best to confirm with the hotel directly to ensure a comfortable and appropriate experience.

You will be able to go to all the restaurants but there may be a small supplement to pay in some. Also book before you arrive as they do get full
