This small boutique resort has a whole small bay of clean, soft sand all to itself. Enclosed by steep hills, it’s a real hideaway with stunning views. This is the best beach location we have ever stayed.
The rooms are individual rustic cabins all arranged on the edge of the beach. Even the furthest cabin would be only 30 paces off the beach. Our room (20) had the best view of all and was almost on the beach itself.
The resort was full but felt empty. Always plenty of good quality sun beds and shade available.
Breakfast buffet is adequate with a good selection of pastries & fruits. Omelettes were good and poached eggs were perfect. Other cooked items were hit and miss.
Lunch/evening menu was a little pricey but not excessively so. Chicken curry & rice 8omr. We tried their signature paella (23 omr) but was badly overcooked. All prices plus 17% tax.
The resort tended to play beat music through breakfast and for the day but kindly changed the routine and volume when asked. If you go to the far end of the beach you can’t hear it in any case.
There is a dive school on site, small swimming pool, paddle boards and kayaks for hire ((7-10omr/45mins ). Otherwise all you can do is relax which in this location, is very easy.
The bay water is crystal clear, shallow, safe, with plenty of sea creatures to see. Muscat is only 15 min drive away if you want to venture out.
Locals come to the resort Thursday & Friday nights for DJ night at the beach bar. If that’s not your thing, it’s the opposite end to the accommodation and not disruptive.
Staff are polite and attentive.
Overall, a great place to unwind and relax.

The location is stunning, on a beautiful sheltered cove with views of rugged mountains. The common facilities (dining, outdoor lounging, outdoor pool, activity offers) are relatively new and very nice, in bizarre contrast to the (very poor) rooms. If we were only to rate the rooms, I would give it a 1 or 2 rating, but the location if gorgeous and common facilities are nice.
The rooms are really awful and simply bizarre compared to the newer common areas. The location on the beach and "casual" feel of the area is what attracted us to book and loved the look (online) of the outdoor bathrooms. We travel extensively in Southern Africa and are used to and love accommodation in nature areas with outdoor bathrooms/showers, etc. Muscat Hills totally misses the call with the rooms. The materials are "natural" but dusty and filthy dirty. The furnishings in our room were certainly not "Omani" as claimed. Not all the electrical outlets worked. The hairdryer or the outlet I plugged into blew up my electrical adapter. Once this happened my husband when to the reception to get a new hairdryer, since it didn't work, but the office was locked up. I tried to call the number given to us but with no answer. The toilet base was not secured to the floor and the hanging towel rail, with towels on it, draped on our heads when we sat on the unsecured loo. The lighting in the rooms and bathroom is minimal and rooms are extremely small.
Sticker shock (besides the overpriced room for what it is): alcohol was not served in the restaurant or beach area until 8:00pm so we had 2 beers and 1 individual (small) bottle of wine from the room frig. Cost: over $50.00. There may have been a price list somewhere in the room to indicate to overpriced bar goods, but it either wasn't there or we couldn't see it with the poor lighting.
Muscat Hills could be a fabulous resort if the existing rooms were bulldozed and built new.

Stayed at the Muscat Hills resort for a few days in December . My son had been before a couple of years ago and raved about it .
The accommodation was fabulous nice little beach huts and the views of the hills looking back from the beach were amazing . The sea was clear enough that we saw a huge ray and a turtle from the pontoon . We were lucky enough to be down on the beach at night and see the phosphorescence , which was amazing .
We also did some diving and the staff (I can’t remember the girls name )who dived with us was brilliant .
My 2 negatives were that’s the outside restaurant seems to have masses of flies when your trying to eat it’s really annoying and I’m not sure what the can do about it but while eating nice food you don’t want to be constantly shooing flies away .
Secondly and this is my biggest gripe is what have they done to that amazing view they don’t show you in any of the pictures but looking out into that once beautiful bay is a great big lump of grey concrete spoiling the once perfect view , where someone is building a huge hotel . Such sacrilege you can maneuver yourself along the beach a bit to try to avoid seeing it but it’s BAM there straight in front of you .
Price wise it was at but expensive but we were expecting that . ( & cheekily bought a bottle of red with us )

Dear CarolJohnsonxx, Greetings from Muscat Hills Resort! We would like to thank you for taking the time and reviewing us. We are happy to learn that you enjoyed your stay with us. We are glad to hear that you were among the lucky ones to see a huge ray and a turtle near the bay. The phosphorescence is simply magical and you even got to experience that. The construction you are referring opposite to the hotel is some thing we cannot really do much about but its on its final stages of completion. In regards to the insects and flies we do fumigation twice a week to keep them under control. The pricing for the food & beverage is at par with the hotels around the area. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Thank you, Best Regards, Obaid Dadarkar Rooms Division Manager Muscat Hills Resort.

We’re all very stressed with the current situation and wanted to get away in a relaxing staycation with 2 of my friends. We’d been in this resort several times for a swim during daytime and enjoyed the food in the restaurant but decided to stay the night for an early morning swim. Check in time was 2pm but we arrived 30mins earlier. They told us they were still cleaning the room so we waited by the sea side. I felt really uncomfortable and wanted to drop our things in the room because we brought some rolls and might be affected in the heat - took them one hour with me hovering by the door to check if they were cleaning thoroughly(I’m a little paranoid with sanitation issue due to the pandemic). Room wasn’t 100% clean but decided not to be a party pooper as my friends were ok with it. They just swept the floor and changed the sheets. I brought my own disinfectant spray and disinfected every surface before settling in. As I was getting ready to sleep there was a used tissue on the side of my bed - I immediately got up and just joined my friends in the bigger bed. I dm’d them about it but sounded unapologetic and just said that housekeeping will take care of it. I decided to just let it go but will never ever stay in that resort ever again. We all left disappointed early morning - coffee machine wasn’t working so we went home really down. The one point was for the view. It was amazing despite the cleanliness issue.

Visited one of the hidden affordable unique resort that is located on a beautiful bay and surrounded by Al Hajar mountains on 8 July 2022. It was so chilling, charming and relaxing with nature vibes.
The staff are so helpful and friendly. Special thanks to the receptionist (from Maldives, sorry I forgot your name) who was outstanding with her service and knowledge.
Bungalows are not more than 3 meters away from the beach that have a very cosy ambiance. Each hut has a private terrace and outdoor showerand bathroom (who doesn't love to shower in nature?)
Very beautiful private beach with a lot of water activities including kayaking, snorkeling, diving, paddleboarding and many more..
The food at the Mediterranean restaurant was very delicious and worth every penny you spend. All the waiters were professional, kind and helpful.
Visited the main center and Souq Mutrah, 20 min away by car, in which you can find a lot of traditional souvenirs.
Midnight swim was one added memory to our 3-day staycation as this resort.

During 5 nights we have been in this beautifully located resort. The place is gorgeous, the beach very nice and the staff nice and helpful. The breakfast is also very good. However, the diving tour we booked for 44 Rial (!!) was a total disaster. The support was very needy, the visibility very bad, it was not a great experience. Although I pointed out several times to the diving school or the diving instructor that I have problems with ear pressure, no attention was paid to it. The instructor hardly turned around during the dive and checked how much oxygen we still had. This was unfortunately not a nice experience, which is why I advise everyone against it.
The bungalows are very minimally equipped, which is basically not a problem. However, a daily room service, without asking for it every day if you pay more than $200 for the room would have been good. This especially since the bathroom was completely wet after a shower, as the water does not drain.

Absolutely stunning place . Unique stay experience , and good Mediterranean restaurant . Breakfast was nice , me being some one who don't like buffets , enjoyed it. Only little point which I felt was a bit tough was when the waitress refused a third coffee refill ( I am guilty ) , but at 70 riyals a room , a cup of coffee extra for breakfast shouldn't be a big deal. But apart from that all was super. Would surely return :)

It was very a enjoyable stay. The hotel is situated on a beautiful bay surrounded by mountains. The accommodations are basic huts with aircon and an outside shower. A Nespresso coffeemaker and a minibar are standard but no tv and no in-house phone. Both I did not miss. The staff is very friendly, housekeeping efficient and fast. The restaurant has a very nice selection of Mediterranean and local dishes and the bar on the beach is a very pleasant place for a sundowner. The dive center is well equipped and offers a number of water activities besides scuba diving.
However, I would like to make a couple of suggestions: the pillows on the beds were a bit hard and I would have liked one of the two to be softer.
The white furniture in the breakfast room could need some attention, not only repainting but also repairing
Some cushions on the sun beds in front of the cabins have broken straps which allows them to slide down when one rests on them.
The upholstery on the boat that took us watching the dolphins needs to be repaired. It did not look like nice at all.
Having said that it I did have a very pleasant stay and definitely will come again!

While the main building is very modern the huts are absolutly basic and not nice. Not only is the shower outside but also the toilette your only cabinet and the safe.
Food is ok but pricy. 2 beers cost almost25 Euros if you add the mandatory charges to it. Dive center is less than enthusiastic. Also it is noisy. Every morning like 6 am something else happened ... a truck picking up trash, cleaning, etc.etc.

A big negative is the food prices. They should consider adjusting and lowering their food prices for the overall dinning experience. They are charging similar prices to plaave like chedi hotel and bustan palace and the whole experience is a casual food/ snacks.
The location is excellent and the rooms are placed at the beach which is nice, however, the room itself is slightly tight with no table to put things. The lighting in the rooms are so dim as well.
Pool doesnt have any shade and the water is super hot which is very bad.
