Our family of six spent three very enjoyable days at Tweedsmuir. Great wildlife viewing, excellent guides and superb food. The lodge was very understanding of our kids' needs both at mealtimes and in the field which was much appreciated.

A dozen of very nicely kept cabins in a very quiet location. The park around offers plenty of wilderness activities like rafting, fishing, wildlife viewing, hiking and even horseback riding. We were able to observe two grizzly bears at dusk as they followed the river fishing for salmons. Our cabin was very comfortable and with WIFI. The meals were excellent...

Tweedsmuir is based in one of the most stunning, rugged mountain chains I have ever seen. The setting is just beautiful and the lodge more than matches it. We enjoyed the hiking, fishing, and heli-hiking as well as the opportunity to sit on the porch and watch the sun on the mountains. The meals were delicious and served by a...

So what makes this one of the most special family holiday destinations we have ever visited and our children's top one ever ? Well from the moment we arrived there were so many new experiences. Watching a grizzly and her cub stroll across the lawn, drifting in a boat down the river with a guide who's done it for 40...

We spent four days at Tweedsmuir. Location, staff, accommodations and food were amazing. Caught lots of salmon and trout on our guided fishing trip and saw a whale on our excursion to the fjord. The chef even cooked up the prawns we caught!

Even before we got to the lodge the informative and friendly shuttle driver offered each of us a refreshing bottle of water. When we arrived at the Lodge staff greeted us with a tall cold drink and delicious lunch while we relaxed in a dining area surrounded by historic photos and artifacts belonging to the Bella Coola region. Thanks for the great, thorough review Linda. We're so happy that your mum was able to check Bella Coola off her Bucket List.....from what I gather it's been on that list for about 70+ years! Wow! I'm glad our team made it a memorable trip :) Oh, I see on our internal survey that you bought the Bella Coola book...

The staff is super friendly. When I was picked up at the airport everything was taken care of. We did a gorgeous hike and walk through the old growth trees as well as river float and trip to the petroglyphs. I always think it's a good sign when staff sticks around for several years. The main lodge is gorgeous. Bella...

Thanks so much Julia! Yeah, it's pretty awesome that, despite us not being open for a full 12 months each year, our staff want to come back season after season. I think they enjoy it almost as much as the guests! Regards, Tim

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Home of the Grizzly Bears! The historic Tweedsmuir Park Lodge, set on 60 acres of private land within the vast wilderness of British Columbia's largest protected park, is the ideal setting for your wilderness adventures. Originally built in 1929 as a hunting and fishing resort, today the lodge accommodates those seeking out a more eco-friendly adventure as well as a relaxing refuge from the pressures of modern life. The surrounding environment is stunning. Rising above the valley floor are the majestic Coast Mountains, to the west is the largest fjord system in the Americas, and to the east the high Chilcotin Plateau. It is a bio-diverse and spectacular wilderness, home to the totemic wildlife of the Great Bear Rainforest. Nestled in the largest protected park in British Columbia, the Lodge is only an hour flight from Vancouver. Consistent winners of TripAdvisor's Certificate of Excellence and the Traveller's Choice award as part of their Top 25 Small Hotels (Canada), guests stay in private timber chalets on property bordering the Atnarko and Bella Coola Rivers. Thanks to healthy fish stocks, the Lodge is situated amongst one of the world's largest Grizzly Bear populations. The Canadian Tourism Commission has included Tweedsmuir Park Lodge's Grizzly Bear Safaris in their prestigious 'Signature Experiences Collection'. Participants enjoy the tours due to the small group size (maximum of four people) and the absence of man-made fishing channels. All river travel is on non-motorized drift boats, giving participants a more natural experience. In addition to Grizzly Bear Viewing guests can also enjoy; heli-fishing, heli-hiking, fly-fishing, Guided Nature Hikes, photography, First Nations culture, excursions on the inlets or even summer heli-skiing! Relax by the fireplace, enjoy a new spa and a massage, soak in the outdoor hot-tub, or simply retire to the lodge deck for drinks. Definitely keep your eyes open for local wildlife, including grizzly bears, which may lumber past on the lawn.
