This was a really beautiful place for us to base our NZ break in. We enjoyed the stunning view of the Lake and mountains beyond from the Sir Tristram room morning and evening. The lodge is quite a beauty, designed and built by the owners with great attention to detail. It's just far enough away from towns whilst being in...

We booked for 2 nights after a 5 week tour of NZ, and chose it because according to Trip Adviser it offered leisure facilities. On arrival we found this not to be the case. There is a lounge, but no bar. It does not have a gym/fitness centre, there is no restaurant, and there is no spa. There is a...

This is definitely not 5 star. It's rating, from what I gather, was achieved in 2009 and certainly does not extend to 2017. The good bits. The location is fabulous with beautiful views with lovely grounds. The room, though a bit dark, was very comfortable, clean and spacious. Quite 'traditional' in its decor. Very friendly people running it. The guest...

This is a brilliant place to stay. Is quiet, clean, incredibly well appointed and has sensational scenery. Only a short drive to Hobbiton movie set. The bedrooms are private and the gardens sensational. There is even a spa by the pool.

Stayed at a lakeside room which had a good view of lake and modern ensuite as part of a grab one deal for one night. Hosts were very friendly and provided an outstanding breakfast and travel tips. The grounds were interesting to walk around. The lodge is owner occupied and very homely. Overall, the experience was very relaxing.

We stayed at this beautiful lodge based on other Trip Advisor reviews, and it does not disappoint! The rooms are beautiful, the hosts are as kind and helpful as can be, the grounds and view are stunning, the beds are incredibly comfortable, and the breakfast is top-notch. We were visiting Hobbiton, and didn't want to stay in Matamata (trying to...

It is a shame the inconsistent service and lack of attention to detail let this 5 star down as the location is amazing with such lovely views. We felt like intruders in the owners house from the beginning, did not feel welcomed at all. Led to a room inside the slightly creepy, dark mansion, which was a surprise to me...

What a fabulous property with wonderful views, perfect luxurious rooms and the best shower ever. We had dinner one night, it was excellent in every respect, perfectly cooked, great flavours and the wine match (as suggested by Eddie) spot on.

If you only need three words - just do it - the grounds are amazing, the food was incredible and words cannot describe the building itself. Attention to detail knows no bounds at Lake Karapiro Lodge and to top it all off Ann and Ed are the best hosts one can ask for - their kind nature, inviting personalities and...

Great service, lovely rooms and amazing view. Stayed one night and didn't want to leave. The people who run the lodge really make the place, not taking away from the beautiful building itself. Would definitely recommend. 10/10 experience.

“The only possible criticism for some people is that most of the rooms have showers rather than baths, and there is also some distant traffic noise from the main highway, a km or so away, but this was not intrusive as given its location quick access to the highway was helpful when going out to shop, dine or sightsee.”

“All have nice views. We were able to have a look at the upstairs, more expensive rooms, but I think the downstairs rooms were just as nice.”
