Although we had to replan and criss-cross some of our routes in order to stay here for a night, I’m so glad that we did and regret that we couldn’t stay longer. Upon arrival, the hostess received us warmly and gave us the necessary info.
From the reception, the caravan parks and camp grounds are located on the opposite bank of a massive lagoon that was completely dry then. Due to the low season, very few sites were occupied so it was very quiet and peaceful. As the sites are quite near to Emu Bay Rd, faint traffic noise can be heard among the chirpings of birds.
The sites, amenities and camp kitchen were all nicely maintained. In the toilets there were even small lockers with power sockets for charging gadgets securely. Just need to bring a padlock. The auto stopping of hot water in showers after 5 mins might be challenging to some but sufficient for my need.
No light pollution and very few light sources around made this another idea place to take night sky photos, e.g. the Milky Way or star trails.

The park is well set out and with the recent addition of powered sites, providing everything we needed…there’s even a herb garden! The seasonal lagoon is a lovely sanctuary for bird life and kangaroos. Lovely clean facilities and Kerry was so friendly and helpful. The lavender farm is just 1km down the road for a scrumptious breakfast or lunch or one of the best coffees on KI. Otherwise Kingscote is just 12 kms for all your needs.

Thank you to Dee and Tony for making us feel like we were at home.
We enjoyed our one night stay so much that we called up the following day and stayed another night.
The bushfires have been heartbreaking for locals around Kangaroo Island but let me tell you there is nothing to be afraid of and there is no threat to the North East of the Island where the beautiful Discovery Lagoon is located.
The amenities are clean and pretty; I was able to wash my hair, brush my teeth, have a hot shower and charge my phone all at once.
There are small touches to the camp ground such as a nice playground for children, a herb garden in which you can pick your own herbs and a delightful camp kitchen with everything you could possibly need in it! Which is especially great if you forget a utensil.
I would highly recommend staying here to access all the Island has to offer, from wildlife to Kingscote to Bay of Shoals winery and beyond - go surfing and go swimming and come back to Discovery Lagoon as your base camp for the evening.
As i write this there is Army stationed on Kangaroo Island which makes you feel very safe and there is no threat of fires. A majority of the roads are open and we visited Pandana Wildlife Park, Bay of Shoals Winery on market day sunday and numerous bays to fish, swim and go surfing.
Support local and #bookthemout - you will love your stay and Dee is a total gem!

We do have a gorgeous Island and i am sure with the rain we are having at the moment that things will start to green up once more and the Island will be even more gorgeous than ever. See you guys soon Dee

It is a complete shame that this well-equipped place has a manager with poor customer skills. She was rude with my partner and me initially, not letting us check-in before 2 pm, even though we mentioned while booking. She literally threw us away from the campground with no other option that came back due to prior payment.

HI Monica , thank you for your review . so sorry you where unable to check in at 7.45AM in the morning also there was no mention of check in at 7.45am. I am not sure what accommodation you are able to check in at that time of morning also unfortunately check out time is at 10am and your site was still in use. Whilst you stood there and argued with me and placed your self in someone else site to set up camp you where asked to comeback and check in at 2pm as camper have to vacate and cleaning has to be done. We states on all our paper work check in after 2pm -- check out 10am Maybe when making a booking next time with any accommodation you could explain to them just how early you are going to be or book a extra day to accommodate with that early hour to secure you booking for a early check in

A nice camping ground but no lagoon when we were there. Amenities clean but lights were on a timer as was the hot water!! 5 minutes only in the shower. No time to wash my hair! The water goes cold after 5 minutes and you can’t turn it back on so this was disappointing. The lights were on a 20 minute timer so this was tight timing too. No native wildlife except for a couple birds. The office opens at 2 pm which is a bit annoying. Overall a professional caravan park but i wouldnt camp there again due to the water timer and codes to get into the toulets and laundry.

The campground is pretty. Amenities were clean, but the shower floor was very slippery. One shower cubicle was large with a shelf; the other was smaller and had no where to keep your stuff from getting wet. Lovely camp kitchen with combustion heater but the owner removed our firewood while we were out and disposed of it. Coming back to camp in the cold and rain to find our dry firewood removed was not a pleasant experience. And no, we had not disregarded any of the campsite rules: wood was sourced outside of the property, we did not use a chainsaw, and did not place the wood where it would get in the way of other campers. (These other campers had contributed to the firewood collection) Rain was expected later in the day, hence firewood was collected early and left under shelter.

Helen and Pat Newman thank you for your review and staying with Discovery Lagoon Camping Ground So sad to hear you had trouble with our shower floor, hooks are provided behind the door to hang your items. The fire wood (sticks) not brought wood was removed to dangerous four foot long sticks piled a foot high with sharp points on them before someone was injured . Maybe you could buy some cut wood or bring some wood to make things a little more comfortable for yourself instead of jumping our fence to take sticks from the other side of the road and our neighbors property and even after you accused me of stealing your wood (long 4ft pointy stick) i asked you please do not put those dangerous sticks in the camp kitchen as some one will get hurt but you still did this for another 3 nights at 5.30pm every afternoon , jumping fences taking sticks and putting them in the camp kitchen and breaking them up all over the floor. Normal cut LOGS were left for your use just not the Dangerous ones . Thanks for your stay and stay safe

Beautiful bush land park close to emu bay . Short drive from kings coat . Owner very kind and gentle . Toilet/ showers first class very clean .park boasts a children’s playground . Fish cleaning sink . Camp Sites large and shady . For the extra 10 bucks do yourself a favour and forget the council drop toilet sites . The beauty of this park is that you are allocated a site so you can travel back and forth .

We stayed at Discovery Lagoon Caravan Park for two nights while visiting Kangaroo Island. The amenities were good, with warm showers and clean facilities, plus the convenience of access to drinking water. The surrounding area was lovely and peaceful. However, the map mentioned a park for the kids, but it only had three swings. It would have been great to see more play equipment for the kids to enjoy.

This must be the best camp site on the planet. Everything is so clean and well looked after and the site has everything that one might possibly want. Emu Bay is close by and is a wonderful beach along which to walk after dinner.

Hi,
We are the new owners of Discovery Lagoon Campsite and we realise this question was asked some time ago, but we would advise you that dogs are allowed at the management's discretion, with the following rules:
Only one dog per site.
They are to be on a leash at all times.
They must never be left at the campsite unattended.
Hope this helps!
